Not really. Playing the immigration card is just the usual response from the Tories when they fall behind in the opinion polls.

Britain is built on immigration. We're a mixture of the indigenous tribes, the Romans, Saxons, Vikings and Normans. There is a school of thought that this genetic diversity has helped us to be (in the past) the most dominant nation on earth, quite an accomplishment for a small island. Our language is spoken around the world and our cultural and technological achievements have helped shape the world we live in. The same could be applied to the USA (though they have benefited from much greater natural resources). However, it now seems that in the UK and US, immigration is being blamed for society's ills. I suppose the only issue is how to allow "good" immigration and stop "bad" immigration, which is obviously not as easy as it sounds. I suppose you've got to take the rough with the smooth.
