Home secretary Theresa May briefs MPs on changes that may disqualify non-EU partners from UK family visas

British citizens with foreign-born partners are to be given the choice of indefinite "exile" in countries including Yemen and Syria or face the breakup of their families if they want to remain in the UK, under radical immigration changes to be announced next week, MPs have been told.

The home secretary, Theresa May, is expected to confirm that she will introduce a new minimum income requirement for a British "sponsor" without children of up to £25,700 a year, and a stringent English speaking test for foreign-born husbands, wives or partners of UK citizens applying to come to live in Britain on a family visa.

Immigration welfare campaigners say that the move will exclude two-thirds of British people – those who have a minimum gross income of under £25,700 a year – from living in the UK as a couple if they marry a non-EU national. They estimate that between 45% and 60% of the 53,000 family visas currently issued each year could fall foul of the new rules.

The moves to restrict the family route for migrants coming to Britain form part of the home secretary's drive to reduce net migration from 250,000 to "tens of thousands" by the next general election.

Those ****s are ****ing up this country so much no-one will want to come here. Laws like this are ****ed and are the perfect example of what's wrong with this government. Siding with racists whilst making it a cash issue, I ****ing hope Theresa May and all her family suffer from a horribly painful death.

I wouldn't take seriously anything printed by The Guardian, they tell more lies than Pinnochio.

Since when you started a thread with a link to a picture hosted on the Mail website, thought it looked familiar...

I read this website when I'm bored

    http://www.fark.com

They collect silly news headlines about ****ed up stuff and pointless funny stories, and for some weird reason there's some Daily Fail ones in there. Maybe because they're a feeble excuse for a newspaper...

That looks a good site to fill the hours. I read the BBC for the headlines and sport, the Mail for daft ****, the Independent for serious news and the Telegraph for business news.

This plan looks like another ill-thought-through idea from this government which they'll quietly drop in the coming weeks. Or it could be more Guardian lies. Either way it won't happen.

I never used to vote until Labour got to work, another 4 years of that was too much to take. Plus I was in the Harlow constituency where the Labour MP had a majority of just 87.

I'm sure the Left have great ideas to reduce the overcrowding of this country

But no it's far easier to play the race card

Only thick ****s believe immigration is an issue. The difference between emigrants/immigrants isn't enough to pose a problem to this country. It's the old people not dieing and scummy northerners breeding like rabbits causing the issue.

I'd rather swap every english person in this country for foreigners than keep things as they are. I'm not a fan of inbreeding and I couldn't give a flying **** about patriots.

Because of people like stopme who believe that being English is something special.

    The inbreeding issue.

There would be nicer women too.

I wouldn't live in the same country as David Cameron.

    Foreigners are better.

Could come up with more but it'd get a bit silly <ok>

    I don't think that.
I get the impression that you think being English is something to be ashamed of.
    "Foreigners are better" WTF?

Sorry, Toby, but ****ing bollocks. I'm fed up with reading ("Broadsheets" and "Redtops") about some Somalian, etc, being housed in a £2m house in Kensington while BRITISH people remain homeless or on council house waiting lists for years on end.

We are in the middle of the worst recession in years and now it's time to put Britain and British people first.
