Is anyone now viewing them differently? I have to say, hand on heart, I concede I am. I havent been totally critical - I always backed the sacking of Nick and I even back the stance on disabled fans - but I also the questionned motives re the stadium and the handling of the whole affair with the council, plus Ive directly seen how cost cutting measures have impacted on the behind the scenes team.

However.... this really is a step change in terms of an appointment. When we were being fed the names of Megson and Blackwell, Steve Bruce wouldve been a dream and he really isnt the desperate type to come here without honestly believing he can do a good job. As well as this being big for us, it's big for Bruce and if he fails even with a lack of funds it could hugely impact on his future employability. He NEEDS to get back in to the Premier League for his own future so he obviously thinks he can do it here.

All in all this is a very, very encouraging day and hats of the Papa and Ehab. Now I hooe they've learned some tough lessons and dont screw up this new goodwill....

Stadium (non)purchase - Never been bothered
    Buying the club - grateful
Sacking of Nick Barmby - Shabby
Calibre of new manager and how conducted - impressed
Disabled season tickets - done to death, but in agreement with the club stance

Will purchase season ticket with more confidence.

Decent summary that. I think what really encourages me is that Bruce isnt a Yes Man at all, it wouldve been so much easier for them to appoint someone who is ok at that level and happy enough to toe the line and plod along in the Championship but that simply wont be the case. Bruce is a wheeler dealer in almost as much a way as Redknapp and he'll be all over them for money every single month. They havent chosen an easy ride for themselves one bit and that has to be applauded.

Got to agree with above, impressed with calibre of manager, don't think he would of taken job without assurances of squad strengthening and financial backing<party>

After getting Bruce as opposed to the likes of Greg Abbott (not that he's a bad manager) I'm once again quite excited for the coming season and quite impressed that we've managed to get him full stop.

We're generally considered an "average" Championship side, and someone like Bruce could really put us on the map.

The Allam/Barmby thing has been done to death, I still think they were wrong but this appointment certainly helps.

This is definitely a step in the right direction for the Allams and they deserve credit in the same way they deserved criticism after the Barmby debacle.
Lets hope that was a lesson learned and everyone can re-focus on the main priority ie. promotion.

I saw both sides of the arguement over the sackings, Barmby and Pearson are rightly legends of the club, however if the Allams felt that the whole truth hadnt be told over events in transfer window (lets be honest, we all wanted to sign a striker but Barmby didnt) then they are right to make the decision they did (£40mil allows you that).

The Bruce appointment is a bit of a surpise to me, i expected Davies (and would of been happy with that) as he is free cheap. Bruce will cost, but think he will get results. As others has said, he is no "yes"man, ai have ensured funds are there.

Squad wise, I think we need:
    Mannone £500K plus extras
Back up keeper (free) - mybe Kirkland given the Bruce conection
I think coaching for Bruce could sort out Cooper and Bradley, so defence is ok (maybe a versitile loan signing who can cover RB)
2 x wingers (maybe even 3 for depth) - loans could do
at least 2 strikers (guessing we will lose Simpson and poss McClean) - I would like Waghorn back, plus a decent loan from premiership

The third should have been Garcia for depth. Ridiculous release.
Also cover for right back if necessary.

Same as Strov, same as FLG although my stance on Barmby is still on the fence unless I found out all the facts, which I don't think I ever will.

I believe the Allams are putting the club in the best financial place we've ever been in, and will make us one of the best run clubs financially in the league giving us a much better and stable long term future, as well showing ambition of the highest order and putting everything in place to try and make it happen.

I was going to raise the same question...

I certainly am more impressed with them but it doesn't really change the fact that barmby's sacking and more specifically the manner in which it was done, was a shambles... I suppose we should get used to some good decisions and some poor ones.

Cheshireben - Come off it you are not "just asking" you are basking in the "you were wrong". I am happily surprised that they have got Bruce in and am looking forward to the new season but still believe they have behaved badly in relation to Nick Barmby, but we have to move on from that now. I have applauded them for modernising the ticketing system and agree with the disabled ticket situation. However I am still under the impression that they can be and will again be very ruthless when they see fit, sometimes we will see this as justified and at other times we will not see it as that way. They really did not have any choice but to get a good manager in and promise him money, they had to do this to retain any credibility with the supporters. I know you quote one thing I said (I have spoken to a lot of people, some not even City supporters who have said things about how the Allams conduct themselves and I know people they owe money to and have had bad dealings with them) and that is something that is true and I can't help that. Like I said, I am happy with the appointment and looking forward to going to the games and hopefully being top 2 and going up next year. I suppose overall I am very cautiously optimistic cos you never know what is around the corner.

My feelings haven't changed really. Overall I'm pleased with the appointment and I agree with BCC that it's enocuraging to see it isn't just a yes man, and I'm impressed that we've got someone of his status to the club, even if I don't really like him. But what the Allams did last month will never be changed and it was pure madness. What they did to Nick they could easily do again to Bruce and every other manager they employ if they don't want to sign the same players he does. Once owners start interfering with transfer targets how do you know they won't do it again? As for AP I still think he will be a big loss, we haven't replaced him at all and the manager is the only football man at the club. I'd be much happier if AP was still here.

On top of that, just as always, I'm still worried about the cost-cutting around the club; not the bits that make sense like getting rid of **** overpaid players but things like scouting, injury treatment and general dealings with fans/players.

I've only posted that because the question was asked, so anyone considering having a paddy about me not agreeing with all the above things, please refrain. Like everyone else I'm looking forward to see what Bruce can do with the team but inlike some others, I still have concerns about some aspects of the way the club is being run.

Which bits are disgusting and dire? I'm not gonna read through it a second time but most of it is just general dismay at what they did last month. The one with all the 'Egyptian ****' stuff was a bit strong in terms of language but I felt the same way about that incident and can understand why someone said it.

I don't see much issue with the one suggesting arson, it's not like he's threatening to do it himself, just saying people will be pissed off. The ones you disagree with are not necessarily fabricated.

I don't think anything at all was said specifically to fuel anger, the owners did that themselves when they had their little moment and sacked everyone.

I am absolutely disgusted by those comments against people who saved us.

They're denying it just like they always were, but OLM originally said that based on his almost impeccable track record (before his mates all got sacked) I'd say it was most definitely true at one point. Whether it still is true now we don't know, but just because the owners denied it doesn't mean it was bollocks. In fact, that they came out and denied it the day after OLM posted it when no one else really suggested it apart from him makes it sound more likely. And as I've said millions of times, how come straight after the Barmby thing, suddenly every club was linked with Koren? Was that a coincidence? I doubt it. Either his agent was ringing round other clubs, or the club were.

cant deny its a decent appointment, still doesnt change the fact i think they way they have treated barmby is wrong, and i just dont forget and pretend things didnt happen, that would be fickle of me.
said at the time they could appoint guardiola and it would still be bittersweet for me, and thats how it feels....probably should be excited at the appointment, but lack enthuiasm for football at the moment..
