I'm getting kind of sick of constant news reports about people being arrested over things they say on Facebook.

I don't have it anymore, but know I've been on here and posted random ****e after an old firm or other boozing session. Most of which could be deemed offensive. If someone is genuinely inciting others to attack someone then fair enough, however I don't see how an idle threat such as this is worth the taxpayers money to prosecute.

They are using a crackdown on sectarianism to create a China-esque state where we have to watch what we say all the time. I am not a fan of sectarianism, but this really isn't the way to deal with it.

I quit facebook because of all this ****. I never used to say anything like that but I just hated the fact that people can't have a laugh on facebook like they would in the street or pub. It's ridiculous

    I agree.

It'll be interesting to see what this guy gets sentenced with if found guilty.

If they slap a ludicrous custodial number on him, are they suggesting that "doing a Jungle John" is less punishable than just talking ****e when you're pished?

Who is actually offended though? They keep telling us this is to protect society from sectarianism, but who is it who would take a comment from someone they know on their list (excluding the sad acts who accept anyone to get their "friend" numbers up) as a grave offence?

If it really bothered them and its a friend why should the police have to become involved, surely it could be remedied by either ignoring said comment, just having a word with them, or if that is too hard then use the block facility.

You mean like almost every OF fan on this site ST?

I'm sure we have all typed the words "fenian" or "hun" or whatever at least once or twice on here. I don't think they monitor here yet, but the way it is going it won't be long.

There's a big difference between calling someone a fenian and calling for someone to be bombed to death.

There's also a big difference between being pished and saying "bomb Neil Lennon" and actually sending a bomb in the post.

One should be a chargeable offence and the other shouldn't.

That's easy to say if you're not the recipient of said threat.

Anyway, what kind of ****, no matter how drunk, goes on to a computer and threatens to bomb someone? As I said, it's not the threat as such they should be jailed for, it's more their utter stupid ****ishness.

Trevor was on here threatening to do me in last weekend, as well as half the Rangers board from what I can gather, quite obviously steaming. It didn't bother me at all.

Being a **** doesn't justify a custodial sentence. If the message had been sent to Neil Lennon's PM box as a threat then maybe fair enough, but what serious bomber would make a threat like that to a public audience which didn't include Neil Lennon ... it was a **** being a ****, doesn't mean he deserves jail time, nor that we should be wasting our money prosecuting him for it.

There was an article the other day about how Larkhall of all places is handling sectarianism, they are doing it in the schools. It's a far smarter idea than jailing folk for drunken comments.

If we allow absolute bampotted ****tards to say what they want and offend who they want and how they want, then where do you draw the line?

If you ignore a problem it will not go away, it will probably get worse.

When it has been ignored for several years and becomes almost the accepted norm, then it's only a matter of time before some raging bigoted cumstain bleats that he's being victimised for airing views of a similar nature when he is rightly brought to book.

In case there is any doubt, I have absolutely ZERO sympathy with the prick and anyone who does needs to get their bumps felt... and pronto.

But what about comedians who make offensive remarks. How is that any different? Remember the guy that joked about blowing up an airport and got sent to jail. Unless you can prove intent then you shouldn't prosecute because we all say things we don't mean and I mean everyone.

Black humour ain't everyone's cup of tea but if you don't like then ignore it or better yet get a sense of humour.
