I know it's very, very early days but who do you think will remain in post the longest?

I think Chris Hughton, but if Rodgers has good first season Rodgers will be there a while.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the scousers show their usual degree of patience and hound Rodgers out before the end of January, opening the door for Benitez to return <ok>

With Rodgers it could go either way, he'll be there 6 months/a year or a few years

we will give Hughton time so I think he'll stay for a good while

Villa fans have proven themselves fickle, Lambert has to watch his back but he'll at least play good football. He's ambitious though, and he'll want that big club

Blimey chaps ease down a tad.

The inks still wet on Hughton's contract (and probably Rodgers too) and we're already summising who'll stay in their posts the longest. I suppose it's understandable given Lambert's ambition and the fact that if he sees a bigger job he'll dump the Villains too but it's way, way too early to guess who'll be the first to jump or be shown the door.

Time to reflect on an excellent piece of work by McInally and the rest of the Board and get behind "Team Hughton" rather than guess how long he'll stick around.

    Tough one.
I genuinely think CH could be a medium - long term appointment. Rodgers is taking on a lot and the recent history suggests that a disappointing first 10 games could heap the pressure. I expect PL to be at Villa for 3 years max as he will have his eye on the next rung of the ladder. It could be Arsenal!

I think it depends of the board members at Aston Villa support Lambert through the bad time and Liverpool support Rodgers through the bad times and show their loyalty to the managers. Lambert and Rodgers are both ambitious managers and hope that they change Aston Villa and Liverpool's form around. They would certainly go well to stay at their jobs for 3 years, but I think that Rodgers has got a more difficult job than Lambert has.

<yikes>Read that as disappointment, whoops

Thought his interview went well, quite rightly he doesn't know much until he has the opportunity to sit down with each player on their own, and discuss their future, any complaints they might have about the prior managerial era.

What impressed me most was that he didn't stand on anyone's toes so to speak (he could have torn into ashley's decision to sack him at Newcastle, but simply stated that he has moved on), true dignity there! Didn't have a bad word to say about anyone.

Nice touch from McNally to boost Hughton's confidence that there was "only 1 person ever truly considered and interviewed, CH", unlike Villa's disguised 3rd choice Lambert.

.......in all i have read about hughton, the unanimous feeling is that he is a gentleman in the true sense of the word. and his interview at the press conference totally supported that assessment.

Erm...technically yes, however Bowkett (sp.?) said that there was a shortlist of 5 candidates.

I want to know who the german and two Italians were on the list, I'm assuming the Scotsman was Mackay.

Much as I have warmed to the idea of Hughton I'd of found a foreign coach a much more exciting experience.

it'd also have been far riskier.

my guesses would be zola, di matteo and maybe robin dutt
