Top man Brendan, good luck at liverpool and i hope you do well, i completely understand why you had to take the job....see you at the liberty when we play you..
Knackered yes he delivered the most important result in our history, hull besides, but we need to move on we need a new manager. Writing this letter to the paper is nothing more than sound bites, he explained himself and thanked the swans fans on the official website already in case you missed it, now we get this in the Evening Post again. The guy needs to move on, and as I said we have more important things to get on instead of wasting time on someone who is no longer our manager, anyone who looks at this objectively can see he left to a bigger club, it's a gamble for him to so early in his premier league experience, but he is set for life if things go tits up
KJ - question ... is Toshack a Jack? If he is to you then I accept your point. But I think he qualifies on performance and duration a head of Rogers. Let's just be consistent and not too near sighted - this is after all our Centenary as we should keep a bigger grander perspective. "Left" ... a polite euphemism for "Dumped". We're without a manager, lost staff, lost a player, logistically compromised, perhaps compromised in the goals for department heading into the season - we don't know what the true fall out is going to be yet. I don't refute him thinking of himself first, but this guy wants to **** and run, is soooo sorry he won't be able to have dinner with us tomorrow night, and be kissed on the way out .... I mean really. I'm done with Rogers. Shift over, page turned. Looking forward to bigger and better in the next chapter. Not disappointed any more, could be the best thing to happen to us, but just stop calling, texting, sending us e-mails ... and don't bother to post on our facebook wall, we'll read it all in the Mirror.
I couldn't agree more that as we speak Rodgers is now an irrelevance but the thread happens to be about him. I'm quite happy speculating about our next manager to be honest. I think Rodgers has 'moved on' but probably felt that he would get a greater reach with the Evening Post than the official website. And he's right. For me it shows that the decision wasn't an easy one for him, even though I don't necessarily swallow of the flannel that goes with it. YJ: I don't think it matters. It's a label. It's a free country and you can call yourself whatever you like. Rodgers considers himself a Jack that's obvious, and it's then a matter for us individually whether we agree. I'm happy to agree because he was one of the most (if not THE most) important manager we've ever had. If you begrudge him that then so be it. I'm sure he won't lose any sleep as he'll still be a Jack at heart. We can't keep vilifying everyone that leaves us, particularly if they've delivered something momentous like Prem football. And like it or not he did. "Only two years" for sure but probably the most important two in our history imo.
I think he is enhanced his reputation as an honest guy with morals. he feels that he owes us a written explanation to clarify why he had to take the liverpool job and i for one respect him more now than i did before.....as Tim but dim says "A bloody good bloke"
I must say that im over Brenden rodgers now, i was dissapointed to see him leave and felt a little bit let down by him, after taking time out from the the board its given me plenty of time to reflect without getting bogged down in the Brenden threads on here . The Liverpool job was not a job he could have turned down, it is a massive club and if he gets it right there you are talking about him being one of the greatest of all time! this would have long term benifits to Swansea city i beleive. I think he has been mostly genuine with his comments and did feel that it was a truely difficult decision to leave us. The Gylfi situation has blotted his copybook IMO, he should have said nothing RE the player, his comments were only ever going to make it easier for Gylfi to turn us down, having said that Gylfi stated that he would sign ONLY if the manager was here so again, i cant really blame rodgers 100% for this either. He did fantastic for us and got us to the prem league when clubs like leicster and cardiff were throwing millions at it, we did it on a budget and with some clever signings like Sinclair and Borini, its one thing to say everything was in place its another to actually go out and gain a promotion!! Im not that bothered how he does at Liverpool though i guess it will be intresting to see if the gamble came off, one thing i will say is this. If he fails at Liverpool and got sacked and we were having a mare with our new guy then i would take him back like a shot!! i would not say this about Sousa or Martinez but with Brenden i feel that there is alot he can still give a club like ours, some may say disagree and my attitude is normally to say "**** you" when someone leaves our club, but i feel he could still come back here and do a job. When Martinez left i felt it was for different reasons than rodgers, i thought Martinez did the dirty on us big time and the way he went about it also stank(having meetings with DW while on holidays etc, etc) the swans deserved better than that !! also, it was Wigan athletic not Liverpool!! i will never quite forgive Roberto for using us in that way, while there are parallels to be drawn here between the two, Roberto pulled on the heart strings like no other and used that influence for his own ends ,rodgers always stated he would move on and while it was to me a bit premature it was non the less inevitable. I would love Brenden back here, maybe if it falls to pieces at Liverpool and we struggle with a new manager then it would happen, the guy has some rough edges there is no doubt but i think he has on the whole been great for swansea city and his emotional attachment is genuine enough, he was here a fraction of the time that bobby was but he still felt the urge to write an open letter, something ive yet to see roberto do, which says alot. Good article Lynham Jack !
There's times when it's better not said & this is one of them. There's no need for another statement, just get on with what you have to do ( BR) & we'll do what we always have done best support our club & next (current) manager
I must add that this open letter is probably a smart thing from Brenden, its not a question of if he is a jack or not its the fact he feels he is a jack!! The guy will have £9m quid in the bank and will never need to work again if it goes tits up at Liverpool but i get the feeling he enjoyed being part of our club, city, culture and lifestyle. The fact he talks so positively about Jenkins tells me that the job will be here for him again one day, this letter just re-enforces that for me . Not sure how others feel but it wouldnt bother me if he came back and i hardly ever say that about people that leave us!!
Got to say liked the sentiment and am totally over the disappointment and sadness of him leaving. Really dont blame him if it was to Norwich, Wigan etc then maybe I would feel different but Liverpool thats different (although I am not a fan). Agree with you Norway wouldn't mind one bit if he came back and we needed him. Good to know how well he and HJ got on and believe that he genuine feels the way he does about leaving. Like others have said he didnt have to write anything and I for one dont see any underhandedness in this gesture. Good luck to him in all his endeavours as we move on to bigger and better things too.
Spot on Norway totally agree - i hope he has a wonderful time at liverpool apart from when they are playing us and i hope he gets a ggod reception when he returns as he has deserved this with the way that he has moulded our team into the team that we would never of thought it would be when we drew with Doncaster on the last game of the season under sousa, maybe he will be back as an employee within our club if not then thankyou for the work that you have done STID
I'm no longer bothered that he's left, but that letter has gained a little respect that he lost from me. He could of up and left and said nought, but he's taken the time to write to us with his reasons. I don't blame him, lifes too short. He's gone, we'll get a new manager and we'll move on. He is a Jack though.
good post Norway - I also feel a bit guarded about it all and it was dissapointing he left so soon but the letter was genuine IMO and ive got no reason to believe hes not sincere - there were some nice sentiments expressed in it. Interesting that he talks about coming back one day - maybe hes thinking of doing a Leon!!
The thing for me is that he not only brought Premiership football to the club, but an intergrity and a touch of class. His understated celebration at the final whistle at Wembley and his handling of the British press all reflected well on him and us as a Club. The truth is we are bitterly disappointed to see him go and it hurts, but least he has gone to the trouble and time to explain his rationale. Yes we move on and support the next incumbent but we pay respect to Brendans achievements and tip our hats to his talent.
I have been quiet but interestingly reading the forum until now (and biting my tongue). Emotions have been running high and I've hated watching my fellow not606ers turning on each other. It's a strange comparison, but BR leaving (like any important manager/person in ones life) has left a state similar to mourning for us Jacks. It just proves how much we took him to heart and how much we love our wonderful club. Our reaction to this, just proves he will always hold a place in our hearts. There is no script for the way one should feel when you lose a 'nearest and dearest'. Some mourn longer than others and get caught in the anger/ resentful stages that are just a natural process. Respects to those that felt this way. I am happy to see that my friends on this forum seem finally to be universally reaching the resignation and ultimately the acceptance/hope stage that is part of this well documented process. After the way BR held himself through actually losing his real nearest and dearest in his tenure, I feel it is time we all took a grip on reality, moved on, take a step back, wish him the very best and appreciated what he brought to our wonderful city. He is no Judas nor Saviour, just an ambitious manager/man who delivered on everything he promised. Brendan Rodgers, thank you and good luck. And as he says....once a Jack (who knows)! STID
I do and have wished him all the best, in his place I might have done the same if I wasn't a swans fan. But now I wish he'd bugger off and let us get on with things, the thing up on the club site is enough I think. I just want a new manager now and that's more important than the Liverpool manager wishing us well, would I take him back ? No because I have hardly seen second spells really working, and he's left us once it will happen again, he used our club as a stepping stone and would do it again, I don't want loyalty like a fan, but his integrity has gone for me because of the siggy transfer saga!
Nice to see the vitriolic claptrap has stopped. Some of the things posted when he left were slanderous, and were clearly written in the heat of the moment. I'm going through some private **** with my family right now and I can tell you that hatred and negativity are so destructive. Norway - I got quite emotional there for a minute. I found myself (gulp) agreeing with you. Spot on. Don't know what the **** happened to my smiley attachment. One of those days
The departure of Brendan Rodgers has left big shoes to fill at the club, he has left us at a critical time so still feel some animosity towards him. Maybe once we have a new man in place we won't feel so abandoned and can look forward to a new era, right now though am concerned that we have no plans in place for next season. Whoever comes in will need to replace our fitness trainer and analyst who were crucial to our team as well to sift through our current players to check who will be surplus to requirments plus bring in some new replacements.
KJ, you cannot call it claptrap. I was agreeing with you throughout but you have to respect... these feelings were natural and purely part of the process. Others just took longer to come to terms. Respects my man KJ, and this seems like closure for most. The guy has not done a Martinez and deserves credit. Siggy only ever wanted to play for BR Lets face it... he could end up signing for him 3 times but yet only actually playing as a signed player for the few weeks BR was manager at Reading. I have had leaders in industry that inspired me and I felt I would follow into the 'trenches'. I have also had some ****e ones who make you working life hell. It seems Siggy has found his true mentor. We move on, with 14 million in the pocket through not buying Siggy/BR compo and 46 mill from last year. HAPPY DAYS. Now, would you rather an established Premier team with heritage/brand and money in the bank or MK/Cardiff/Malaysia Reds mark 2 in the championship on a 'promise'?
perhaps when we get our new man we should give him no respect whatsoever as when he leaves (and he will) he will be slagged off no matter if he won us the title,F.A.cup and got us to europe......Fickle fans need to grow up and realise there are better jobs than swansea city and young managers will use us as a stepping stone to higher jobs..
