I wonder if we are getting a bit over excited. I can see that he can score goals and generally he looks to be a useful player, but people are talking like he's going to be the next big thing in the Premier League and I'm not sure we have enough evidence yet. To be honest, if we hadn't been linked with him in January I'm not sure he would even have crossed my radar. I'm not saying he won't be good for us I'm just urging a bit of caution into over hyping his abilities and our expectations of him.
It is a worry of mine - that should he sign and not hit the ground running people will start with the "come on we paid £7m for you!" etc. Deserves his chance and lets see how he goes at a higher level, but he has impressed so far - making team of the year and getting 21 goals.
Maybe if Jay Rod doesn't score on his debut SaintsFanAlex will decide that he doesn't rate him! After all, he didn't give Sharp a chance to settle!
Hmmm, the Star is saying that Chaplow IS included in the deal for Rodriguez. Admittedly, not a reliable paper but it wouldn't particularly surprise me if Chaplow does go to Burnley.
I'm very excited about this. Think the lad is brilliant, of course he's not "the next big thing" but he's definitely an upgrade and a very exciting signing.
I doubt we set a deadline for him after we have been patient so far, but neither will we wait for ever. I'm sure we will have a back up plan, though we have striker options anyway. If he is having a medical, he must be seriously considering it. Hopefully, by going in high we have put off the opposition.
If he's having a medical he's probably already agreed to join! Medical is usually the last step before officially signing.
Bear in mind that SKD was having a medical at West Ham when Cortese called him and asked him to come back. Many a slip between cup and lip...but I do agree it looks almost certain.
Some of the comments from the Lancashire Post seem strange. The quote "Jay Rodriguez is set to undergo a medical at Southampton today, but will not be rushed into a decision over his future" seems a total contradiction! You wouldn't normally be having a medical if you're not near to completing the deal, so the bit about that he won't be rushed into a decision about his future seems strange. Anyway I'm sure this will be completed tomorrow or Monday and we can talk about Zak Whitbread & Curtis Davies as our prospective new CB purchases, Tom Ince on RM & Steven Davis CM.
