I don't think we'll get any compo for Lambert and if, as expected, Hughton signs up and brings his backroom boys with him, Cully and Karsa will be released from their contracts and will be free to go to Villa so no compo there either Not sure how this web has been spun but Villa seem to have played a bit of a blinder here. Enough said about Lambert I reckon - fantastic three years with us for which we will be eternally grateful but he's Villa's manager now so I, for one, have moved on and now look forward to an exciting new chapter in the life of NCFC.
We can only be thankful for what PL did for the club, but we are entering a new chapter now and I'm looking forward to taking my seat at Carrow Road again next season. Whoever is manager will have my full support and I'm sure that of the vast majority of Canaries fans!!!
i tend to agree with yorkie about villa, although i think he's wrong about the big pot of money - going from their presser yesterday i'd suggest they are still being stingy, and the fact they are refusing to pay compensation suggests it too - the words 'looking for value' came out of paul faulkner's mouth twice! the massive advantage villa have over norwich is one thing, and it's not history, not capacity... it's the wage bill. he probably has a similar amount to spend on players as we do, maybe even less, but he can offer players bigger wages and in the end - maybe three times more than us, and that will be the draw they need above everything else. its incredibly stupid to think that a player would go to villa above norwich because they won a european cup 30 years ago - if norwich offered the player twice as much as villa offered, the player would sign for norwich! its all to do with wages. villa is still a big pull for players and managers but i have to agree with everyone that villa have not behaved like a big club through this procedure at all.
I feel bad that you did all that research for me to just turn around and say "Ipswich AND Villa are ****" But hey, thats how it goes.
I personally find it disgraceful on PL's part that he resigned to help AV avoid paying any compensation to Norwich. Atleast Rodgers signed a 3 year deal so Swansea got a nice sum of money for a replacement and transfers.
Don't forget that (rightly or wrongly) McNally refused him permission to see what they had to offer, thereby forcing his hand, to an extent. If Villa wanted him and he was still NCFC boss, there would have been some compensation due - but not much, due to his one year rolling contract. But better than nothing and there'd be none of this 'acting underhandedly' tarnishing the whole affair
IMHO there's way too many people firing off about things they simply don't have sufficient information about to comment on fairly or sensibly. As far as I can see, NCFC have behaved perfectly reasonably and impeccably throughout, which is what we presumably want. Whether the same can be said for the other parties remains less clear, but the best thing is surely to wait and see. The business is not yet finished and more will come out in due course.
That shows just how ruthless PL is really. He knew that having a 3 year contract might price him out of his next managerial move. It would also take valuable resources away from his future transfer kitty. That was more important to him than making sure Norwich had a good windfall!
To be fair, that rolling contract had suited us too in the begining. Before he arrived (and after in Gunn's case) we'd spent an awful lot paying off sacked staff who had fixed contracts. Swings and roundabouts.
I agree with that Exile but once both parties knew they were on a strong footing he could have done a Rodgers and sign a better deal but chose not to.
This whole compensation thing is bollocks anyway. In his opinion he has moved upwards. Fair dues thats his opinion and its probably right. We have approached CH and it looks he will be our new manager at 2.30pm. Birmingham will get a manager from somewhere else no doubt and everybody will be in work. The industry carries on. Its like players who sign a contracts but can't sustain their performance level. Perhaps Holt thinks he can for another 3 years, but if he can't he wouldn't volunteer to take less wages would he. If we sack or transfer him thats our decision but he would still find work. If he leaves us we ask for a transfer fee. His new club pays it. And he's in work. This compensation system is just draining unecessary funds from clubs coffers.
Sorry, Redruth, I can't agree with that. Transfer fees for players and compensation for managers/coaching staff is the lifeblood for many smaller clubs. It makes their best players/managers assets - otherwise clubs like Crewe for example could not have survived. If an 'asset' is wanted or coveted by another club, then they can have him - at a price which is deemed fair, as a replacement needs to be found which also costs money. Otherwise people would be off every time the grass appeared greener, or they had their heads turned in that direction. I think some of the prices touted around are obscene, but can see why the system exists. Unlike agents and their fees - I'd be happy if they crawled back under the stones from which they emerged.
That was my first reaction to all of this when they unveiled Lambert as their manager. But as for Hampy's post - what a load of bullshit, stop living in the past you sad twat!
