Even if we had nothign else to thank him for, we would alwyas be indebted to Chris for this:

"Having worked with him at White Hart Lane, Magpies boss Chris Hughton became aware that Carr wasn't contracted to any club after following Sven Goran Eriksson out of Notts County and put his name forward in early 2010."

Best and most important signing we could make. Players will come and go, some great ones leave a legacy behind but most just disappear leaving no real trace of their being there. Carr has been outstanding and I'm sure the principals on which his network is built will serve us long after his eventual departure. Top man and kudos to Hughton for getting him in.

I noted Alan Thompson has been given the bullet at Celtic where he was very popular. I wonder if there might be some role for that magpie returning home?

Excellent news about Graham Carr. The difference he has made has been immense. I can't remember the last time I felt so confident about coming out of a transfer window in strong shape. He has done an incredible job.

I think it would depend on why he left Celtic. There are rumours flying around some Scottish boards of a misconduct issue. He was certainly good friends with Neil Lennon so seems a strange sacking. That said, especially when it comes to Rangers and Celtic, there is some real bile that flies around the internet so chances are there will be nothing to it.

Newcastle confirmed on Thursday morning that they had agreed a new eight year contract with their chief scout Graham Carr. But they stated that if the right offer came in for him they'd have to let him go.

Brilliant news! I reckon we could lose one of our blue chip boys a year as long as he works his magic.

What's the longest contract that can be given these days?

I know Sir Bobby was on a 10 year one at Ipswich and was offered a lifetime one when he was leaving for England but such displays of faith seem rare these days...
