....nuture and develop a Club and bring them through to The Premiership and then bugger off to a Club that finished lower in the League than them? The "bigger club, bigger budget" arguement won't wash with me and if it is down to wages, how much money do people want ffs? Makes me want to vomit seeing him with his AV tie on - and that's coming from a Swans fan.
Have just read his comments about Holt, we need to give Holt the smallish rise he was after to keep him here and lock Lambert out of anything to do with Norwich now. Theres not a lot we can do about the Culverhouse and Karsa thing but Holt is still totally up to us
Since Villa finished below us last year and since they don't seem to have that much more money available for transfers (although maybe for salaries), I think Lambert believed that we would struggle next year and he didn't want his reputation to be spoiled by being associated with a struggling club. Therefore he was willing to jump to a club which wasn't ideal. Also, one of his biggest targets - Liverpool - had just gone to Rodgers, so Lambert probably figured that was the end of the opportunities to get away. He is a ruthless man, which is why he is so talented, but he must know he has taken a big risk here. If Villa have another season like last season, his reputation will start to be tarnished anyway, especially if Hughton (we hope) does just as well as Lambert did with us, or even better.
I don't think Villa are much bigger than Norwich (it's a closer contest than it should be given Villa's history in the top flight and the size of their city), but I don't think Lambert is taking a risk either. His thinking is simple: if Villa improve and Norwich struggle to match this season's position, his reputation is enhanced. Given how poor McLeish was and how big a loss Lambert and Holt will be, both of those things seem likely. Lambert's behavior is disgusting, but I do see the logic to the move, even though Villa isn't a true step up.
1 European Cup, 1 Super Cup, 7 League titles, 7 FA Cups, 5 League Cups, 1 Charity Shield... Top 20 highest grossing clubs in Europe @ > £100m / year Big pot of cash for transfers 42,700 capacity stadium Famous Claret & Blue strip versus 2 League Cups Financially hamstrung Won't shell out for a three year contract for 'star player' 27,000 capacity stadium Vomit-inducing yellow and green strip
5th in all time Premier League table versus 28th in all time Premier League table It's ridiculous that some of you are so blind. Jeez Ipswich are a bigger and far more successful club than Norwich and we aren't in Villa's league... they're one of the giants along with Spurs, Everton and Newcastle and just outside the big five!
I'm guessing you are measuring that statistic based on comparing empty seats in our stadiums, the amount of debt owed, highest Premier League defeat, lowest premier league points total, most losses in a premier league season etc etc rather than trawling through the ancient chronicles!
I don't really blame him for leaving if that's what he wanted.Lambert has done a lot for us.Like the OP however I think that another successful season with us would have been less risky. It could go pear shaped at Villa and from what I have seen of Brum it's only a marginally better place to live than Ipswich.
He's gone. We know why he's gone. We will have a new King in the next couple of days. The old one is dead.
Lambert's gone shame he didn't take these vagrant binners with him...... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
I'd be more inclined to ask for a logical explanation as to why no compensation will be paid to us, which also means we can't stop Lambert coming back to pinch our players.
I think there may be other factors that influenced his decision to leave Norfolk that we may never find out about. But like Redruth says he's gone, he did some incredible things for us but it's in the past now and now we move on, and we move on together
After looking around it appears Villa are trying to squirm out of paying any compo, and as we are looking to appoint Hughton - who wants to bring his own staff - Villa will wait until Hughton tells Culverhouse and Karsa he doesn't want them before appointing them as Lambert's staff. Sounds just like a Premier League 'giant' and a club with "a big pot of cash", doesn't it?
I'm on my iPhone and after a short time on this thread my phone wants to cut to something about androids. Abuone know what it is?
Lambert just been on the telly box.Is it my imagination or has he gained weight? Looks to have the beginnings of a second chin.Been to the pie shop with Holty?
I have said previously that obviously something went on behind the scenes with McNally and to be honest I don't want to know now we need to move on. PL was great for us and when we look back in history his achievements will be viewed glowingly I am sure. The compo thing galls me because Swansea got £5m for Rodgers and we get f*ck all - how does that work? Onwards and upwards though! One final point - what has happened to the tracky top? Has Randy boy insisted on a shirt and tie now.
