QPR and Sunderland are keen on former Everton and Portsmouth midfielder Manuel Fernandes. The 26-year-old is available on a free transfer after a contract dispute with his club Besiktas. Errr...possibly. But yes please. Every day of the week for me. Him, Faurlin and Diakite? What a midfield!
He wasn't bad as I remember. I like the fact that we have a clear vision that we can sell players that puts us in a competitive position against the likes of Sunderland (no matter if it's a realistic story or we win that battle for his signature).
I've had a quick read-up on this player and he appears to be pretty good by all accounts. It seems strange that he hasn't really settled at one club for a significant period of time and is also loaned out a lot. When he has been loaned out with the option to buy no-one has, which seems strange when he has seemingly performed well. I wonder whether it's because he has too many complications tied into his contracts, along with a third party ownership which makes him too expensive.
looks like a carbon copy of Adel in a couple of years not sure about his dribbling around his own box though, if we did get this guy I think Adel would be on his way there is no room for two players that are so similar IMHO.
You are correct but I think our club is too small at present and this luxury can only be afforded by the top 6 IMO.
Sorry, I have to disagree...we have players competing for all 11 positions in our squad (if you include Taiwo and Diakite) with 1 exception...the flair/creative player (possibly the goalkeeper as well?). All other positions for last season had one or more players competing for the first team spots. You could even argue that SWP was brought in as the competition for Adel, although we all know how that worked out (although he did top the Rs assists table!?!). We have money to spend and ambitious plans, so not so small any longer and we'll need a competitive squad to improve on last season.
I have to disagree that he is like Adel. Seen a fair bit of him and he is more of a defensive mid. VERY VERY skillful and creative but likes to drop deep to get the ball and then pass it out. I would compare him to Alonso with quicker feet. Although he also does enjoy going forward he isn't like Adel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yAheuZzjKQ
This guy looks the business! Whether he is like Adel or not, I agree with Jammers we should have a creative midfield back- up for Adel. Possibly Fernadez can be that, but additionally a more all round central midfield player.
Simple economics with a club our size(a small club 18,000 gates) we can not afford to have a first team back up in every position all demanding 1st class wage packets 60-80 grand per week nor will players that can demand those types of salaries will want to be at a club our size unless of coarse they are only there for the money and we don't want players that are not fully commited to the cause. I do do agree with your thinking that we need to buy better quality which inturn normally leads to more expensive players, however Rome was not built in a day so we are and will be for many seasons to come be "a work in progress" as long as we keep our status which is the most important. As an afterthought about expensive players our two best players last season cost around 250K between them Hill & Mackie so it is not all about splashing the cash. QPR17, I said he is carbon copy of Adel in couple of years i.e. better, but if you can't see Adel in this guy I must be a Dutch man.
Yes they both have quick feet and can pass but can you honestly say you think Taarabt will be a hardworking, good tackling central midfielder. If you think Taarabt can be that then we must have been watching a different player. . . Taarabt is a genius and there is nothing like him lol
