Simple maybe ? if your a Cardiff City fan Refuse to ever buy a new shirt , scarf , hat and anything else in the new colours
If you look on the Cardiff site, most aren't bothered! Some are even defending it! Let them get on with it!
Its not about Cardiff. The minute that decision was made a massive part of that club died. Does it not set a precident for other owners to follow suit if the cash problem is relevant to that club??? Do they now even need the excuse of cash problems??? Man Utd playing in Stars and Stripes to keep the yanks happy??
I agree it's not right, but clubs are always changing badges etc. the fact that the fans that SHOULD be bothered aren't, then I won't be losing sleep over it either.
I just think its another nail in our games coffin, generations of supporters wouldn't have put up with it. We now just shrugg our shoulders, accept that money talks and then sit back down in our comfy seat an watch the game.
Going by the Cardiff supporters forum apparently their badge is changing to a dragon with a small bluebird motif which seems pretty extreme to me because they're introducing a completely different creature and giving it dominance over the existing one. If you also consider the colour change it sounds like their aim is to re-brand the club in gradual stages. How long before they become 'The Malaysian Dragons?'
I wouldn't say Cardiff fans aren't bothered. When the inital idea was leaked, alot of people protested it hence the delay in announcing it. I think that we have no choice now but to accept it. Our club is in a mess, loosing £1m a month, millions of pounds in debt, Sam Hamman still hanging over us. We couldn't finacially carry on the way we were going otherwise there would have been no club to support. We are still Cardiff City whether we play in blue, red, pink or anyother colour.
I think you've misunderstood, Portsmouth are an example of club that spent beyond the means to buy short term success at any cost and have ultimately paid the price. I never mentioned their fans, I made the point that fans, if given the choice, would spend like Portsmouth did to get instant success without thinking of the consequence. It was more a point on how fans demand success and always want more money to spent but it takes owners to step back and look at the bigger picture to ensure the club is stable. It's not my responsibility to 'respect' supporters, that's completely irrelevant. For what it's worth I respect anyone that turns up, pays their money and supports the club, that doesn't stop me thinking that a lot their opinions on how the club should be run are complete bo***cks. Yes football supporters are the life and soul of the club, not the branding, colours, kits...etc, I don't support Hull because I like the tiger stripes and the funny mascot, I support them because they are my local team and a grew up watching them, they could re-brand Hull City as the Penguins and play in black and white kits and I'd still go. I'm willing to wager with you that despite this re-branding the Cardiff fans will still turn out in impressive numbers, even more so if the investment brings on the field success. Why would they loose interest in what could be their most exciting times as Cardiff supporters?
Obviously not something you guys would have picked given a choice but I hope it works out well for you. Look on the positive side, it's bound to piss of the Swansea fans, using the national image from your flag (red dragon) on your badge, all the welsh flags they parade at games will just look like Cardiff flags now!
I know they will still turn up cause they support the club not a coloured shirt. But part of that club will have been erased forever, replaced by a phoney plastic replica.
Yeah fair point, although Cardiff fans like to display those anyway. It certainly reinforces their national identity I guess.
True, but that's happened to most clubs over the past 20 years with the move from their traditional grounds to modern identi-kit stadiums. I guess you need to move on to avoid being left behind.
I've read quite a few posts from Cardiff fans and there does seem general apathy towards it. Not a majority admittedly but I was quite surprised that ANYONE would accept it? I would be pretty bloody annoyed, as was when Hinchcliffe got a 'Tiger' drawn by a 2 year old as our new badge! Angry!
Again, how would you feel if our kit became white or blue and white? Outraged, or accept that these have both been traditional colours of the club strip at various junctures? Edit: The Cardiff situation is slightly different as their kit has always been Blue since they've been Cardiff City.
If it was a change in colour for the sake of it, I'd be a little confused, but deal with it and move on. If like Cardiff it was part of a re-branding and a huge cash investment, I'd be excited about the times ahead.
This is exactly what I meant, that badge was a ****ing joke. Annoyed wasn't the word mate, ****ing pissed off more like. Treating our club badge like that??
