I really can't understand the negativity towards Hughton. I think his albeit relatively recent record of being a manager speaks to a clearly up and coming manager. There are many reasons why people aren't attracted to an immediate management role, and maybe he didn't believe sufficiently that he had the ability to be the No1. But he certainly believes it now, and has clearly developed the abilities to be a very good manager. He seems an ideal fit for Norwich and I'm confident that he can carry on the success we've achieved over the past three years. ICHWT
i'll be especially excited if we lure ewan chester back to the club. he is rated by inner football circles as one of the best chief scouts in british football. we only had him for a year after bringing him in from rangers before but apparently fell out with lambert, hence his move to st andrews. this would also be a great move, along with the gk coach watson
I think McNally's criterion of 'top tier' experience was not only misleading in light of Hughton's appointment but was a requirement which ruled out some interesting options. My preference would have been to give Culverhouse the job with someone experienced eg Curbishley working alongside - but who knows whether that would have been something either of them would have been happy about. I think Curbishley's profile fits better than Hughton's, they're a similar age so that couldn't have been a factor, but maybe price (but then perhaps not if £2 miilion has been paid for Hughton) and how long he's been away from a management role counted against him or some perception from the Board as to 'likely relationship' - I don't disagree with some of the comments around Curbishley being arrogant but is that necessarily negative? As for younger external options, (similar to Lambert) Poyet would have been my choice.
Actually, he's done everything to justify it. Ignore his Tottenham spell and his early Newcastle spell, he was just a caretaker manager. Judge him from the time our CC season started where he was the proper manager. He took a club that looked as if it was truly ****ed and heading for League one and Administration, got the best out of all the young players and all the fringe players, and turned us into a great team that stromed the championship. First season up, before he was sacked, he had us 11th place. Pardew has took us forward, but we owe so much to Chris Hughton. He could make you a solid mid table team pushing for a top 10 place and who knows? Give him a chance.
Well said- but I think quite a few of us are pretty convinced this is not a Norwich fan. Check our other poll thread about the next manager and you'll see the overwhelming majority of Norwich fans were behind getting Hughton before this news broke.
culverhouse was never an option. he wants to follow lambert. keep up chap curbishley's demands would have meant he was out of reach regardless. and poyet would be a bad fit at norwich - his teams are negative and play more like swansea than us. they are ill-disciplined too, would have been a mistake at this stage, though i think he'll become a very good manager given time somewhere.
That is not necessarily true. It was clear he wasn't going to get the job as Manager. if he had been offered it with someone like Curbishley supporting him in whatever guise, who knows what Culverhouse would have done. You're drawing conclusions and making assumptions with no basis in fact watsoever.
Fair enough but none of them have vastly superior records anyway. It would be a massive risk to give it to an assistant manager, we are only in the prem for a 2nd season after all. There is no way Curbishley would work alongside Culverhouse he is far too arrogant for that. He would also require vast sums of money that we wouldn't be able to give him, all in all he would be a much bigger risk than CH for on the face of it little if any extra quality. If we had been established in the prem for say 5 seasons then maybe you can take a slightly bigger risk to push on but not at this stage. I believe CH will be an excellent appointment and he is a top bloke to top it all, of course you are entitled to you opinion, but I respectfully disagree.
I'm guessing your ability to read is at least marginally greater than your understaning of contract law, so try actually reading what I wrote.
Let's just adjust your other post: For the record, I would have been happy with Culverhouse, but I'm just highlighting how ridiculous what you were saying is
IT'S COL WHO MIKE AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Busted. Good effort Mike.
easy. I only said that personally I wasn't doing backflips over the news...As you'd know from other posts, I'm not championing the likes of di matteo or avb - managers like that wouldn't work with what we have - which I imagine hughton will...poyet or hollaway for me...Probably poyet by a whisker...although think holloway can spot a player (and subsequently talk him up to command a high fee) better than the others...sadly, as mentioned, he is a clown... I don't disagree with anything have said with him having done a good job where he has been previously - although don't think he had input with regards to Ben arfa and tiote - don't think mike Ashley had the faith in him at any stage to sign off on something like that... Can't help but wonder why WBA haven't been in for him and don't buy the £2 million excuse for a second - surely they just got a payoff themselves for Roy...
I agree with the comments on Poyet and can only believe people think he is that good because he is a big name. He has done well at Brighton but nowhere near good enough for the prem yet. In addition to what you say, his teams are very one dimensional, they pass it around nicely at the back then eventually play it wide to try and get a cross in. If this doesn't work they are stuck and would easily be found out in the prem.
i wonder if this lad will be top of his wish list. was on loan at the brum last year and did well... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guirane_N'Daw
tight-arse chairman who wasn't willing to pay the compensation for the whole backroom team too. doubt they got much from the fa - they pay peanuts in compensation.
Whatever the other options, none really matters now! As I said, I will support Hughton and whilst his appointment doesn't surprise me given the 'noise' around him for the past few days, I remain to be convinced, that it is the right one. But, more than happy to be so convinced. But I think the question now becomes one of how Hughton will be judged. Is avoiding relegaton enough? Or does he have to be seen to somehow show 'progression', be it in terms of points, league position, external regard for style etc etc
