Hi Chaps Quite a few threads have been made regarding the future of these two players over the past year. According to LFCTV Rodgers intends to have one final sit down with both players as they are both due back at Melwood for pre-season training. What do you reckon of their chances of staying? Do you want them to have another shot? Rodgers appears to be slightly blowing smoke up Aquaman's bottom and interestingly hints there might be other reasons as to why he hasn't stayed bar to not settling it: He may also be able to persuade Joe as he has previously worked with him at his days at Chelsea: Aqualani is reported to have played well at Milan on loan, and interesting Rafa (who I agree with), states he should be given a proper go: Cole has also impressed according to Soccernet: I really think Aqualani could do it for us and Cole's wages are too high. Opinions? http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/rodgers-to-meet-with-duo
I've just posted about this specific issue on the Tika Taka article - as I think these two would fit perfectly into Rodgers system: Zone 6 - Suarez on one side - but who would fit on the other side - as Downing is hardly creative enough... Perhaps Cole / Bellamy if his knee holds out as a fill in or Sterling with time, but this is another position that needs filling. Zone 5 - Clearly Gerrard fits here, but given the need for pssing skill / finding space - I wonder if Aqualani might be useful in this role, although I'd hardly call him a box to box midfielder. Although both on enormous wages - are we realisitically going to persuade SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER players to sign for us this summer with no CL football and an 8th place prem finish. I think they could both do a job this season, and help us make progress and then sign better players for less / lower wages next season than we'd get this season if we were for example in the CL. Despite their wages, it would probably still work out cheaper this year if we kept them (say both on £100,000pw = £10.4m wages) - far less than we'd spend on replacements (when we include their wages), allowing us to spend more on a striker, especially as we're likely to get little for them if we sold.
He is right to give them both a chance to impress in pre season. If he still doesn't think they fit the mould then fair enough, but he's got to give every player in the squad a chance to prove themselves in my opinion.
I don't really care for Cole, I simply think he was our biggest mistake. He came to us for one reason, length of contract. All the London alternatives, were far less generous, and rightly so. So he bit our hand off, and who can blame him. Now with both players, I have to ask the question, why can they not get a permanent deal with their loan clubs? Reports show that both have performed well, which I will have to take at face value, as I've not seen either in action while away from Anfield, so either they have been good, or the rose tinted specs have been employed by people reporting on them. So what leads these clubs to make use of these players, but then run a mile when it may look like signing them full time? Now there has been a shed load of media bullshit over aquaman, as to why he was loaned out. But I think on here we all know the truth was that he just didn't settle and the cry-bay with the beady far too close together serial killer eyes, simply wanted to go back home to Italy, but with his missus, you can't really blame him! please log in to view this image But that doesn't help us. All the talk of him not being that good, was rubbish, every time I saw him in red, he brought quite a bit to the team, and was exciting to watch. So depending on his relationship status, and if he has matured any over the last 3 years, I would love to see him back in the team, and Cole sold to anyone, anywhere in the world.
I agree that both would fit, Team of Carra's. I also agree with Noble that Cole's boat may have sailed. Really hope we give Aquaman a fair shout as i'm convinced he would do it for us.
Their wages are high, but we've been paying the vast majority of them already, even when they were out on loan. Keeping them means nothing for our wage bill compared to last year. It's all down to if Rodgers thinks he can make use of them and, in Aquilani's case, if he can be arsed playing in England when previously he's made it very clear he doesn't want to be here. I'd be very surprised if Aquilani plays for us next season. Cole might be coming on from the bench - unless we get a decent offer for him.
Agreed. I don't think he's that much more lightweight that the like so Xavi though. And there's they key - we need to chuck him in and see how he does. Does he want to though may be more of a point!
Don't think Aqua or his missus think they can settle here. On a day like today I know how they feel. I wonder what I'm doing here and my ancestors have lived here for about a thousand years.
You and Aqua could always join Liverpool's little Italy community. http://www.scottiepress.org/projects/litaly2.htm Ciao.
you're so right, i've been on holiday to spain for a week, come home to the british summer of 12 degrees and pissing it down, putting the heating on in JUNE and wearing 3 layers to go to the local shop. no surprise they can't settle here, i've been back a day and have had enough already!
Obviously a doctored photo saint, there's not that much grass in Kenny apart from the tons growing under artificial lights.
