Avg antivirus or Microsoft Security Essentials (doesn't get packaged with windows but very good). Just google them if you can. Oh and both free and not a bitch to uninstall unlike Mcafee etc

Not heard of ones online as that'd expose your laptop to the evils of the web

one of the best you can get for malware

If anyone doesnt have it already I recommend downloading it and running it once every couple of weeks. It will find and remove loads of malware that gets past normal antivirus software

Avira won some awards for best free AV. I use it on a few of my family's machines.

What Virus scanner have you been using copper? anyway one of the best that you can get is Norton Internet Security 2012, I beta test software for companies including Symatic, and Microsoft, and I can assure you that Norton is one of the best currently. AVG 2012 is free but is not quite complete, there are some weaknesses in the mail scanning, so if I was you I'd download Norton internet security 2012, here's a link for a complementary 90 trial, it's the full and complete package.

    Norton 90 Trial Link: http://buy-static.norton.com/prod/html/partner/ING.html

PS: what makes you think that it's a virus causing you the issues with your Laptop copper? give me some specifics, as I might be able to help you!................

The problem with Norton is that it is bloatware , it eats system resources and is very difficult to remove after a trial. I have used Kapersky internet security for years, its lightweight and is in my opinion the best out there. If you have kids or a student this is probably the best place to buy it or other software all legal, Microsoft Office is a steal and for 2 pcs for example.

This might be true a few years back, but is no longer correct! Norton internet security 2012 has one of the smallest footprints of all the security suites and has consistently toped the charts in lab tests, in recent years for it's success in catching 98% of all know threats! It's also one of the fastest to install and remove................ <ok>

Norton is serious crap, stable scanner, but impossible to remove from the computer and consumes way too much CPU then it should. Spams a lot with discounts and ****. Same goes for Avira Antivir, but it's one click and it's gone.

A very heavy scanner is Avast! Uses alot of CPU but it's good to keep things clean, way better then Norton.
If you don't have a state of the art laptop i'd advise to go with Kaspersky or NOD32.

I personally use Antivir because it has daily updates and runs a scanner on the background which just gives a safe feeling to it.
    Hope this helps!:emoticon-0103-cool:

Valley stick to football mate, that link is a load of rubbish, when you are looking at testing, you use and independent lab test institute, not some review center! just for the record here is the real deal!................<ok>

Dragon I think I know what I am talking about mate, I am a network engineer, I have implemented security for a lot of companies! The link by the way is for a well respected computer magazine who do actually test the products in the wild, not in controlled tests mandated by these companies. And I would stick to football Dragon as you are endorsing software which has a reputation of eating resources, companies stay well clear of symantec with very good reasons

I don't care if you are a network engineer, your still talking bollox, I'm not going to bore anyone on here with my IT experience, or qualifications, but systems software and hardware diagnostics has been my field for a very long time!................ <ok>

Seconded, just checked the entire advertisement department of the magazine. Standard legal structures and professional handling of promotions.
    This site is legit.

But like earlier mentioned. Finding a good AV and malware scanner is not so easy. It needs to comply with your PC/laptop and your personal preferences.
There's a big difference between a budget laptop and a 1200 pound one.

And me neither, but endorsing Symantec products when they are well renown for being bloat ware that eat system resources says to me that you are mistaken ! And that website you pointed to actually does say that KIS is rated mate.

So less of the ****e talk, I am entitled to give an opinion on here without you saying I am talking bollox. I have been in IT for well over 2 decades, and I am actually qualified at what i do at enterprise level.

on a personal note ive found the bigger commerical ones to be more hassle than they're worth, taking up resources and constantly shouting updates and the like at me. Personal preference but not a fun experience for me.
