QPR goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has been linked with a switch which would see him rejoin his former boss at Leeds United.

As everyone knows Neil Warnock is a big Paddy Kenny fan; but I for one hope that the rumours of Paddy leaving Loftus Road are unfounded.

Paddy missed five games last season through injury and still wasn’t over that injury at the end of the season. I think that shows what the man is like; he played through the pain.

A number of newspapers and websites are suggesting that Mark Hughes wants a new keeper; I have to ask can we really get better?

I think any keeper that is good has been linked as well as some that are well, not up to standard.

The question has to be, does Paddy want to stay? I think he does I really do. If he were to join Leeds United he would be taking a step down to the Championship and I can’t see him doing that; he’s too good for it.

With respect to Leeds, they are not a ‘big club’ like they used to be; and they sell more players than they buy.

Don’t get me wrong I think we need another keeper but a young one that can learn the game from the coaches and Paddy himself.

Four keepers that keep cropping up are Robert Green, Paul Robinson, Ben Foster and Shay Given. I’m sorry but the first two mentioned are no better than what we have.

A Foster/Kenny battle would be great for the fans to see. I don’t think Shay will come to us; I can’t quite put my finger on why, I just don’t think so.

It has to be said that Paddy made some great saves last season; and that includes the two times six went past us because without him it would’ve been a rugby score.

There is one thing I know for a fact; If Paddy stays or goes he’ll always be loved and welcomed at Loftus road. It’s not clever selling a fan favourite and I think Hughes knows that.

Paddy Kenny has a contract for another twelve months; I hope both himself and the club I love stick to it.

Everyone seems to think Foster is better than Green.

I think Green's better although whether either of them are any better than what we have is debatable.

He deserves better than a spot on the bench. He should be in a starting XI at his age, certainly good enough for a top championship side. Either MH makes him no.1 for next season or gives him the chance to move on.

I reckoned Paddy in the Championship, but thought he was bad last season. But if he was carrying an injury as it often looked, and fought on anyway, good on him! With competition from a very good young keeper it could be worthwhile him staying another season or two, his experience could help bring the new guy on, and if he's fit again Paddy should benefit from some real hard competition.

The Man City game was Paddy's season in a nutshell, some excellent saves, a blunder for the first goal and he was nowhere when Dzeko headed the equaliser. We can do better...

I'm afraid I have to agree with you. After his season with us in the Championship I was sure he would do a good job in the Premiership but that didn't prove to be the case.

Superhoop is right. We can do better. For me, Robinson and Given ARE better. I'm sure getting a new keeper is near the top of MH's priority list. I hope Kenny stays - but he'll be second choice if he does. It's up to him. (I'm not ITK. I'm In The Not Know.)

Quite a few went past Paddy low hit to his left last season. Was that an injury problem costing us dearly? If so, surely we would've used Cerny more than we did. The fact that we didn't replace him from time to time suggests one of two possibilities: that Paddy had fully recovered from injury; or that Hughes rated an injured Paddy over a fit Cerny. Which is more likely?

The other main criticisms of Paddy, are his reluctance to come off his line and command his area - and too many possession-losing aimless hoofs upfield.

There's no question that Paddy was FLC keeper of the season in 2010/11. 25 clean sheets was it? Great stuff - but how much of that was down to a solid back four ably covered by two holding midfielders?

Different story in the prem until Hughes sorted the defence out with a handfull of games to go.

So do I think it's time for Paddy to go?

Not necessarily but I do agree with Oz, that we need to recruit a younger prospect with sufficient ability to challenge Paddy in the short term and the potential to replace him thereafter.

They are all better than Kenny although Robinson and Green are still not good enough while Given is too old.
Forster and Foster would be great as would getting in some unknown quality keeper like the Swans did with Vorm.

Kenny is gone, the contract offer to Cerny proves that. Cerny is our backup if he decides to sign.

You could be right. But what about Murphy? Have heard little about him for ages, but possibly MH doesn't think he's going to make the grade, and he will be out. Then Cerny could be the no 3, with Kenny and a new, hopefully good youngen as the 2 main competitors.

What debate? Paddy has been a great servant but is not quite there for this level. Prefer any of the many goalies we've been linked to except Gomes and Gordon ( don't know much about Forster) though whether some of them would be good 'value' is another question. Great to keep Paddy as number 2, but that means getting rid of the invisible Murphy; and suspect Paddy would prefer to be number 1 elsewhere.

I think whoever is brought in will be No.1, it's essential to have a keeper who is fully confident of his status and exudes that confidence behind his defence. Kenny had it in our Championship winning season and that was a decisive part of his demeanour. Somehow that confident aura slipped away last season and there were rumours of MH chasing Foster in January, whatever the whys and wherefores it's clear that MH doesn't rate Kenny and is looking for a replacement. Kenny will be at Leeds on the opening day of the season...

Murphy has another year and will be 3rd choice, there was no space for both Kenny and Cerny with a new goalie coming. Im sure Murphy will be gone after next season and we will bring in a younger 3rd choice or Tranni might even step up.

Agreed, Robinson in particular is a mega liability injury wise as well. God forbid he ends up with us.

Its safer to stick with a proven goalie in Cerny whos happy to be backup, it will be very hard to bring in a better backup who wont cause problems because he isnt playing.

We will probably get another keeper next year as well if Cerny retires and Murphy will definitely move on.

I was hoping we would bring in Given and Butland , Given covering the short term problem and butland the long term , back up for a season or two and then ready for the first team. Keep Cerney as a number 3.

I don't rate any of our 3 keepers . People go on about how well Cerney did last year when he played . We got 1 point from those 5 games. He is shocking and should be nowhere near our 25 man squad.

People go on about how bad our back 4 were last year, but the keepers gave them nothing in the way of confidence. Both of them are small in goalkeeper terms , can't collect a cross, are almost mutes and their kicking is schoolboy like, oh and paddy can't dive to his right... this is the reason i'd like us to get two in , one for now and one for the future.

    :cheesy: Like it.

Although I did think Cerny did enough in his games to be given the shirt until the end of the Season. But yes, hes a flapper and I'll never forget that bottler he had against Leeds in our last game of 10/11.

Haven't really seen Murphy play but it doesn't look like hes rated either.

Also, a man of Kenny's, ahem - girth - will never be agile enough for the super fast Premier League.

He was also MOTM in 2 of those games, I think we played 3 of the top 5 or 6 in those games as well.

We dont really need both of them, foster or Forster would be our goalies for the next 5 years at least.
