Ever since Roy Hodgson announced his squad for Euro 2012, which contained Lamps ,Cole, Cahill and JT, we have seen our ones drop out progressively, through injury until we are left with with just Cole. And we haven't played a competitive game yet! Every time this happens, I have my Chelsea mates call me to tell me they are relieved about them missing the tournament! Deep down I agree with them! Years ago I would have been upset about it, but now I'm not! Should I be feeling guilty??
Maybe just a little. There is simply too much football now, when you consider players only normally get 8 weeks off per year. It's not the time frame ,it's the number of games and competitions. Quality verses quantity. Each tournament negates the importance of the other. National games have been devalued more than most, because club teams are now so mixed nationally there is a lot of excitement and interest from all over. After a season like ours with our players hanging in rags, most supporters are happy to see our blokes rest up and watch someone else's players run themselves into the ground. Maybe not right, but perfectly natural. Oh, and for me Football has no place at all in the Olympics, nor does tennis, golf, and would you believe for Brazil, surfing is up for approval. Madness.
Club over country every time for me. I even cheered Dan Petrescu when he scored against England for Romania !!
Club over country for me too, Club football gets me more excited even though being a Liverpool fan can be even more frustrating at the moment. But I still cheer on England, think they will miss Cahill.
I was at every game at Wembley except the Argentina game when England won the World Cup in 1966, and still remember the whooping it up after the final v. West Germany. A bit like our recent game in Munich! Chelsea didn't have a player in the side, but we still partied through the night! Funny how things change! I wish England all the best, but this time, I think I can watch them get knocked out and not lose too much sleep over it!
Like Blue has said, I wish England well and I’ll watch all their games with a few beers and cheer, but I won’t lose any sleep when we get knocked out.
