As a distraction from our managerial woes - thought I would post a thread that has nothing to do with football - our big bank holiday weekend is almost over and, whilst I have enjoyed the extra days off - the festivities have been a little disappointing - yesterdays flotilla, impressive as it was on a logistical basis, failed as a spectacle because there is only so much you can say about boats with posh people on them! Must admit that I had to laugh at the commentators trying to instil some excitement into the proceedings; but it was just a load of boats sailing down the Thames with all the entertainment value of a Cardiff City promotion play off! Hmm - sorta enjoyed the Jubilee concert - a big spectacle, but am I the only one that thinks that, musically, it really wasn't very good! Had it's highlights; Sir Tom was OK - Sir Paul has lost it - Bassey was shouty as usual - Stevie Wonder was class as always - but the rest were pretty average! Madness made me smile but that was due more to nostalgia than performance - would have liked to see a few more rockers shaking it up, but what we got was a rather banal and safe 'musical extravaganza' - could have been so much better! Would have loved to have seen the surviving Sex Pistols shaking things up a little; 'God save the Queen - fascist regime!!' But all we got was a safe little karaoke routine from sychophantic 'stars' Brit music used to be edgy and dangerous - judging by tonights love in it seems that our rock rebels have sold their souls to all things banal and establishment - oh how I wish Johnny Lydon could have been persuaded to do a spot - would have been interesting!
Was Queen on there, or should I say what is left of them after Freddie ? They were great on top of buck house during the wedding . Not really enthused to much with royalty, it's all very nice and all that and they bring a lot to our country, but they are boring people, saw the speech by Charlie and thought don't give up your day job, whatever that is
Been a good few days. Good to instill some pride for the British. This is a big part of our identity of being British, a good old party. Saw the fireworks from my window, but didn't go down to the Mall. No harm, and had some days off which is great

being on the other side of the world, the jubilee celebrations have thankfully passed me by, instead i went to light my candle at the June 4th Tiananmen vigil. if i had been there, then i'd have been attending one of the many anti-jubilee events taking place. Hereditary privilege should be confronted in what ever form it takes. As for the music selection, Cartoon do you really think the great Johnny Rotten would have participated, perish the thought. And as for great new Brit bands emerging, there's plenty around, just can't see too many of them being or wanting to be on Lizzie's playlist
I love this "great Johnny Rotten" stuff - is this the same guy who did "I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!" and appears frequently as a guest at F1 events? He's no punk any more! The Sex Pistols were pretty manufactured, despite their punk exteriors. Great band, but not 100% the rebels they seemed. As for the Jubilee - no interest whatsoever. I even had to work Saturday and yesterday, so I didn't even get anything more than a disected weekend out of it! A load of money wasted. How many people are going to die of starvation during the 4 day party our entire country seems to be having to celebrate an old German having had 60 years of a luxury lifestyle sponsored by the state. I await lots of royalists claiming "her job is really hard" and all that ****. Whatever!

didn't know about Johnny's love for fast cars hmmmm, however i'll allow him the odd discretion. despite the fact the pistols were manufactured Johnny did and still has integrity as far as i can make out, he never forgave talcy for supplying sid with the drugs on that fateful night with Nancy and i reckon John remained true to his roots, class and ideals as much as any man could. after all not too many do, except perhaps the dearly departed Joe Strum, i heard Iggy does insurance ads now in the UK. i reckon brendan could learn a thing or two about honesty from Johnny. ps glad you didn't hang out any bunting
Elton can still play and his band is as good as ever. But he can't sing. Totally gone. McCartney - ditto. A legend, but give up, mate and retire gracefully. Madness - much better than I thought they were going to be. Best visual effect of the night (on 'Our House') seeing the front of Buck House peel off to reveal people running around inside. Stevie - the king. As always, top notch and can still do the business. 'Superstition' was knockout. Should have done 'Higher Ground' to show the Chilli Peppers how it's done.
