accusations reported via the independent...http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...ck-of-respect-over-rio-ferdinand-7814730.html Roy Hodgson is the boss, he picks who he wants and in my opinion if certain players do not like it tough ****ing ****. If players are worthy of a place they would certainly not allow their camp or agents to be slagging off the national coach or at the very least would be denouncing such accusations immediately by media sources. Premiership players have been so far up their own Arses for far to long, believing they have some divine right to be given a first place call up for club or country. In exactly the same way I felt John Terry was a total embarrassment putting on his kit to fit in and pick up that previous piece of European Silverware. This Country has waited to long with so called players that are at the top of their game. Maybe this time we might surprise everyone although I will not be holding my breath on it. Support Hodgson's choices with some good grace and let his choices be judged during the Euros. If you spoke about your boss in any other employment in this way, you would not get selected for a position, so lets hope football is no different, get used to it, you are not wanted. Thoughts...
I personally don't think Rio has been up to the task internationally for some time! I think Roy is spot on saying he's not been selected for footballing reasons, nothing to do with fitness, everything to do with lack of ability, he just can't cut it anymore!
I don't believe for one second that he was left out for "footballing reasons" alone, although to be honest I don't think Rio or Terry should be considered first choice for England anymore, especially after Jagielka and Lescott defended so well against Spain, but I would of still had Rio ahead of Terry as a backup.
We all know the reason Rio isn't in the squad has nothing to do with football. Whatever you think of him, look at the centre back situation and tell me he wouldn't get a place. Snubbing him given that situation lacks respect as far as im concerned although im sure his hands were tied thanks to our ex-captain.
= Prima Donna Someone who exhausts you with their constant need for affection to glorify their massive egos. You don't want to be their friend anymore but you're afraid they'll take out an ad in the newspaper denouncing you as someone uncaring just because you abhor interacting with them any longer. (from 5. urban)
Ferdinand and his slimey agent are the ones that need to show respect here. Hodgson is his superior in this set-up now. Accept his decisions, which I must admit are becoming increasingly bizarre, and leave it at that. "I don't want to be England captain after the last episode - just want to concentrate on playing for United," is not the attitude of someone how puts the his international team first. A good time for egos and attitudes to be excluded from the England set-up. We are coming back after three games anyway so its no biggie.
You're right about one thing, his agent is slimy and his ego is bloated. But wrong about another - we're going the distance. Hope Roy keeps on doing what he thinks is best.
Personally I think Ferdinand is done but it should have been handled much more professionally. Instead a rather childish approach by the FA and Hodgson has once again created a shambolic build up to a major competition. I wonder whether Hodgson's bottling of this situation is going to be indicative of his approach when finding himself 0-0 with Ukraine and needing a win, with no decent wingers, flair players and incapable of making a strong statement. All in all we are done at this tournament and any thoughts about defending our way to the title are just madness. We will stink this one up as badly as in S Africa maybe worse.
It just goes to show how much our top footballers have lost the plot. Nothing wrong with the handling of these tough calls, just a bunch of over sensitive twats with too high opinion of themselves. You're not in get on with it and stop hiding behind agents. Time for people to decide whether they want to be England supporters and start getting behind their manager or find something else to do this summer. The constant moaning up and pissing up these prima donnas backs like Rio, Richards, Carrick etc is boring.
Typical arrogance on behalf of Man U players. They think everyone should kiss their bottoms and ensure referees' decisions go their way.
Symptomatic of a lack of respect for the England shirt, really. Micah Richards refusing to be on the reserve list because he thinks he deserves to be starting automatically and thus screwing us over when we get injuries is also symptomatic.
You guys enjoy supporting the national team who selects a racist scum bag over a better player. If you need the proof that Rio ****s on Terry as a footballer please do ask, I will pop back in here later and provide them for the less intelligent posters who believe it was for football reasons.
Bullshit. If it was on merit then Lescott and Rio would be first choice CB, Carroll wouldnt be anywhere near the team nor would any Liverpool player or Chelsea player as all were rubbish this season.
Except when hes done it for United this past season. Like besides the Everton game. Best defender in the second best defence last season cant cut it. Right.................... Some rubbish in here, no wonder they say England fans are clueless.
Yep, Chelsea were rubbish all season, so rubbish they won,two cups including the most prestigious competition in club football. Uttet tosh.
For me, Rio is much better than Kelly who was brought in for Cahill. I agree with the OP in as much as the manager decides the team and everyone should accept it. However, despite admiring and liking Roy Hodgson, I cannot see this replacement making any sense if he is being truthful about only using 'footballing reasons'. Ferdinand has played more games (for a more successful club) this season, played in the CL and is a better, more experienced player (in most people's eyes). "The manager picks the team on merit as he sees it. End of story" Well, despite loathing people who end posts that way I do also agree with the point. But I cannot see the merit on this occasion and in a forum that discuss football I am allowed my point of view. I am a West Ham fan and despite Rio's failings/problems/age, etc I think he carries himself very well now and he (not his agent) has handled his selection snub/s with a great degree of humility. It's very impressive. That is not a word I can use when describing John Terry. I don't want to make this a red vs blue issue, but Terry started at 'the academy' and people I know very well at the club have all said that throughout his career, despite being a very, very good footballer,Terry is absolute poison. For someone like Craig Bellamy to be so candid about JT, all the '"do you know who I am" stuff, to be awaiting a verdict regarding racist abuse (yes, I know we are innocent until proven guilty but the video evidence is pretty damning) and the anecdotal stuff I have heard from people within football that I trust... I just don't understand why he is still in the England set-up and I would love to know why Woy has chosen him and Kelly over Ferdinand. I'm not moaning - I will be supporting our chaps as I have always done. But I am questioning (it's a forum - we are allowed).
The footballing reason if you need it for selecting Terry over Rio is because Rio has hardly played for England since the World Cup. If I was manager, I'd have dropped them both and called up someone like Shawcross, who deserves it more, but I respect Roy Hodgson's decision and the reason behind it. All Rio has done with his moan is to put himself in Hodgson's bad books and at his age, end his interntional career. It's unprofessional to say the least and it's hardly the blaze of glory he will have wanted to end his international career with.
