Cartoonhead, good article and pretty much my thoughts on it too.

I also think Brendan will be given time at Liverpool.

I dont think Kenny was sacked because of Liverpools league position, I think it was more because the owners can see that the way forward for Liverpool to be a top club again is to adopt a similar playing style to ours.

Darlo: If someone is complimentary to a Manager that took us to the Prem why do you think he's not a Swans fan? Don't be a knob.

Well done cartoonhead. <applause> Absolutely spot on. Well, almost.

Whereas I do think that Rodgers is turning out to be the master of spin and a superb manipulator of the media I also think we owe the man a great deal. We all know that Rodgers's success was only partly based on his ability (of which he has an inflated view) and he inherited a really good squad. His killer move was getting Sinclair in, and latterly Borini, rather than having any tactical nous.

I've already said I can't quite bring myself to wish him well, partly because he's gone to a Prem rival, but we must never forget what he achieved with us. Your point about repaying Jenkins's faith in him by delivering Prem glory - and keeping us there in style - is well made imo.

Everyone hurts when a popular figure leaves any club, whether it's a successful manager or a player. But some of the comments made on this board over the last week have been ridiculous and frankly could have been written by 5 year olds. A Liverpool fan even posted a thread congratulating our Club on the way we've conducted ourselves and even that was met with abuse from some of our lot who need to grow up.

Leaving a place of work doesn't make you a "traitor" or a "judas", particularly if you've managed to increase the worth of the company you are leaving by a factor of 40 (that's a guess but you know what I mean), and those who think otherwise don't live in the real world.

Rodgers will be an important part of our history but he's gone now. I for one am excited about quite a few of the names linked to us and he will take us even further if he's the right man. HJ hasn't let us down in the past has he? Just as Rodgers took us further by mainly using what he already had here the new man will do the same and bring in some new faces if needs be. If we get a 'name' then that will prove easier.

Thank you Mr Rodgers but even though you've gone to a club bigger than our own, our Club is in fact much bigger than you. But you know that.

Onwards and upwards for the Swans!

    Well said Knackeredjack.

We should also remember that the contract he recently signed enabled us to bank £5m for him - if he hadn't signed we'd probably have received something closer to £1m.

well said cartoon and of course you are spot on. anyone who thinks different are suffering from sour grapes. Brendan has been the best manager in recent times and everyone on here thought he was the best thing since sliced bread. Its amazing how they can turn on him for doing exactly what he said he was going to do when he first came here. He never done a lambert and walked out of the club for no reason he went to a much bigger club and in my book anyone would do the same.....Its so pathetic how anyone can change their opinion of him as like jinks said we will always be friends so if he had done anything wrong then why would jinks say that. ..he is a decent man trying to make his way up the ladder in the football management stakes. ..he done so well with us that nobody complained about that.... He has been noticed and anyone who slags him off now should take a good look in the mirror and see them evil horns sprouting from their heads.......He done us proud and now he deserves this chance at liverpool.....good luck to him except the two games with us of course......<ok>

Cartoon I normally agree with most of your postings, and while much of what you have stated is true, a significant amount is some what naive in my view, in the fullness of time I'm sure Rodgers will have his place rightly in our history, but a tactician he is note, and he has NEVER, and I stress NEVER, got any team to develop the total passing game, it was as Huw Jenkins rightly stated, all in place before he came, and all Rodgers did was get us the one or two players, that we needed, to resolve our lack of goals in the final third.

It's also becoming clear that he is believing all the media bull, regarding himself, and that's going to ultimately be his down fall, he's already targeting our players, something I find despicable for any manager, he's shown a clear lack of perspective, and integrity to the situation, has failed to move on, and is trying to spring board his career at Liverpool, on the back of Swansea city, he'll not get any good wishes from me, because I do not take lightly those managers that mouth off regarding their commitment to our club, only to tear it down with their actions. They say talk is cheap, and that actions speak louder than words, and on that basis, today for me Rodgers is someone that cannot be trusted, and I hope he crashes and burns at Liverpool, the man was simply an impostor of the passing game!...............
    <ok>

PS: The fact that Rodger has to talk to Mourinho on almost a daily basis, should tell you something! Take away his Chelsea connection, and what have you got? nothing but a man full of blarney, or a flatter!........... <cheers>

Well you're entitled to your view, and sadly you're not alone, but there you go.

As for "already targeting our players" am I missing something? If you're referring to Siggy last time I looked he wasn't one of ours.

If you're right, how do you explain the fact that so many managers and players think he's one of the best managers in the premier league? Are they all wrong?

Also, if what you say is right, then why did so many fans think he was so great and why are they so upset that he's left.

If you're right then we should be throwing a party, because we got 5million for nothing.

Just got back to the thread and read all the replies from both sides of the arguement - all good, balanced and well argued stuff - still stand firmly behind what I said, but good to read that views from those who don't agree with me were well written and balanced. Apart from one, sadly embarrassing, attempted WUM from Darlo - this thread reminds me of why I post on here - vive la difference!

Only time will tell the true story, but it has been a pleasure debating the issue intelligently with fellow Swans! <cheers>

very good post Cartoon and on the whole I feel the same... however it was dissapointing that he went so soon. he hasnt established himself in this league yet and if he d given us another year or two im positive that he would have become a swansea legend and we would have given him our grace to take on one of the big jobs, something which in my opinion hes not ready for.
only time will tell of course and i actually wish him all the best but how many of our star players have left us over the years having been blinded by the bright lights and fallen flat on their faces. we may not be a big club but for a number of years now something very special has been happening here. Siggy, Allen, Sinclair and others being linked with moves away please take note!

the thing is he or any of us did not know when or if any big clubs would come in for him, and because of his management skills (he has some faults) then the big guns like what they see in brendan and have come in quicker than expected......If he and i hope he does do well then that would be good for him and even if he dont do well then he has a 3 year contract that will make him a multi millionaire over night. .....the new england boss failed at liverpool and look at him now.....he made the right choice by going as he has set him and his family well secured for the rest of their lives......a no lose situation....

the big jobs come up every year and lets face it hes got plenty of years ahead of him, theres no rush. financially a no lose yes but if he does badly at LFC he risks his reputation something which i reckon is more important to him.
like i would say to everyone, youve got to know where the grass is greener and AT THIS MOMENT its SCFC

I do find it very patronising that because I now hold a negative opinion of Rodgers, that automatically means I've "forgotten all the good work he's done for us". Not at all. I know he signed a bigger contract when he didn't have to, and I know he had 2 good seasons with us.

I also know, however, that all he seemed to speak about was loyalty, integrity and other buzzwords, how he said a few short weeks before departing that "it would be unfair on the fans to leave now", that it looks like he's ****ed the Sigurdsson transfer up for us, and that by leaving he has directly and single-handedly created a possibility of catastrophic failure at the club I love (due to potentially hiring the wrong manager).

Everyone is entitled to their views, and I still rate him as a football manager, but as I said on another thread, my opinion of him as a human being has diminished greatly.

I am with Scottswan on this, I have no problem with Brendan going to Liverpool in itself, it's done now and we will move on. But the guy's integrity is shot to pieces declaring his 'wink wink' hope that siggy signs for us is quite cynical on his behalf, trying to justify his actions is pathetic I think. He has gone **** him I say just want 6 points out of the games with Liverpool now.

Am I being bitter, no don't think so as he is now irrelevant to Swansea City, I only want the best for my club, so I want to beat every other team! I am thankful he took us to the premier league and he is to admired for that, but I wish he would shut the **** up and let us and him move on, I only want to discuss my club here not someone who is history for us.

I agree with you very much Scottswan, my opinion of him has taken a dive. I totally understand the bigger club blah blah about Liverpool but 2 months ago I never even gave consideration to him leaving because of all the 'love' he said he had for the club and city. I'm sure the Liverpool/Chelsea/Tottenham jobs will all be available in some shape of form in the next few years - it's not like it was a one off opportunity.
If players now no longer want to play for us because he's left - then he is directly responsible for ripping the guts out of the team. Sigurdsson should have happened - no two ways about it - fee and personal terms were approved - now it's him who has apparently f**ked it up. Rumours of Joe wanting to leave, Sinclair etc may all be rubbish, but this has all come around as consequences of his actions. It has destabilised the club this past few weeks.
