At last, some good news to come out of SAFC regarding our injury problems. Looks like Frasier is OK after all and may even figure against West Brom, i'm chuffed for the lad.

Please read below, taken from today's Echo.

FRAIZER Campbell will see a specialist tomorrow to assess the damage done to his knee.

But the Sunderland striker is expected to be given the all-clear and could even feature against West Brom on Saturday.

Campbell (pictured, inset) was set to make his comeback from a seven-month lay-off against Manchester City last weekend only to twist his knee in training on the eve of the game.

It was feared the 23-year-old had suffered a recurrence of cruciate knee ligament damage, which has kept him out for the bulk of the campaign.

But initial suggestions are that there is no major damage done and Campbell will visit Yorkshire surgeon Steve Bollen tomorrow to get the go-ahead for West Brom’s visit.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce said: “Of course, it was a worry when Fraizer twisted the knee on Saturday, but thankfully the scan he has had shows that the knee is still structurally intact.

“Fraizer will now see the surgeon who operated on him and hopefully he will confirm that there has been no damage done.

“If so, Fraizer will come into my thinking on Saturday.”

While Bruce will err on the side of caution with Campbell, two players who will come into his plans are Kieran Richardson and Nedum Onuoha.

Richardson has recovered from the hamstring strain suffered against Liverpool three weeks ago and is in line to start – either at left-back or in central midfield.

On-loan Nedum Onuoha is also expected to come into the starting XI after being ineligible to face parent club Manchester City last weekend.

Meanwhile, Phil Bardsley is set to continue in defence after coming off at half-time at Eastlands with a lingering knee problem.

Bruce added: “I think Phil will be OK. He had an injection in his knee at the beginning of the international break which meant he couldn’t train for a week, then he came back and trained for one day before reporting sick.

“All in all, he only trained for one day in the two weeks leading up to the Man City match.

“He didn’t look right, so I took him off at half-time at Eastlands as a precaution, so I’m hoping he will be ready.

“Kieran has recovered from his hamstring problem and he has trained all week.

“And we’ve also got Nedum available again for the first time in weeks.

“I don’t want to keep on harping on about injuries, but there is no doubt that we have been badly hampered by injuries and we have to hope that we don’t pick up any more.

Campbell on the bench would be a lift to everyone and at last we would have options if things not going our way

Aye some good news with Campbell. <ok>
FFS don't rush him back if there is a chance of it recurring though.

The thing is with Bardsley if he got more help from the other buggers it would have eased the pressure on him.

It's well known I don't rate Richardson if he does come in at left back (where I think he has been worse than ****e) I hope he can step his game up and just do a job for once.

Not sure about Ned at RB either, stick him CB.

looking forwart to when he's fully fit,
love to see him play upfront with gyan,
with a midfield of wellbeck, catts, steed and sess,
then we've got subs of jordan, elmo, muntari and meyler.

I've been waiting to see those 2 up front all season, both lightening quick and if the can hit it off together it will be some partnership to watch. As MR says though, i hope he isn't rushed back, we've waited this long, another few weeks won't hurt. Just get him fit first.

To be honest, even if he's an unused sub it will be a big confidence booster for the lad. Hope he does feature at some stage, but ONLY IF HE'S FULLY FIT.

Don't believe Bruce for a second when says he'll err on the side of caution with Campbell. Wish he would though.

He was on fire just before his injury, so I hope he is nursed back gently so he can get up to scratch.

Will good to see Campbell back, but we wont see the best of him till next season now.

Richardson and Bardsley is the best news for me, means we can drop ferdinand and play with Bardsley/Onouha/Richardson in the FB positions.
