Arsenal Exec Ivan Gazidis to get grilled by gunners fans - Daily Star
    http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football...-Ivan-Gazidis-to-get-grilled-by-Gunners-fans/

ARSENAL chief executive Ivan Gazidis faces a fans’ grilling as to why Arsene Wenger won’t splash the cash this summer. And supporters are demanding answers on why the Gunners won’t break the bank to keep Robin van Persie and why billionaire Alisher Usmanov has not been given a place on the board at Arsenal. Gazidis has agreed to meet 300 Arsenal Supporters’ Trust members at The Emirates on Wednesday and is in for a rough ride.

A trust spokesman said: “Arsene Wenger stated that he does not intend to do much business and many members feel the team needs further strengthening.” Fans feel Usmanov, who owns just under 30 per cent of the club, should be granted a seat on the board. But so far owner Stan Kroenke has refused to allow a representative of Usmanov’s Red and White Holdings firm to be at board meetings.

In other Arsenal related news it looks like we're after ANOTHER young 18 year old player, this one is Nick Powel from Crew.

Wenger radar falls on starlet Nick
    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footb...have-joined-the-race-for-crewe-starlet-860840

Arsenal have joined the race for Crewe starlet Nick Powell. The 18-year-old made a stunning impact for his club as they reached League One. His stunning goal in the play-off final against *Cheltenham was the *highlight of his 16 goals last season.

And Powell has *attracted the attention of several top-flight clubs including Manchester United who appear to be favourites for the £10million-rated front man. Chelsea are also keen. But Powell has also been the subject of rave reports by Arsenal scouts to *manager Arsene Wenger. Wenger was *impressed with what he saw and has been given the go-ahead to pursue Powell as a *summer target.

Yet much will *depend on the recommendation of Crewe’s *director of football Dario Gradi.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It will be interesting to see what happens at the fans meeting with Ivan. As for signing Nick Powel.....WHY?

  3. It's so ****ing annoying how we seem to be spending our time making the same mistakes - signing a 12 year old and now focusing on an 18 year old Crewe player. Nothing is going to change with Gazidis and Wenger at the helm.

I wonder how many times Gazidis will talk about his sustainable business model of Wednesday?

If we don't buy the players we need this summer, if the club think they are just going to sweep last season under the mat they better think again !!!

Well, our powder has been dry long enough. I'd like to see Gazidis answer questions about how we're going to strengthen the squad.

I hope they give that smarmy prick a ****ing torrid time. If Arsene sticks to his "quiet summer " bollocks then RVP will leave and who could blame him? Sign 2 or 3 ****ing good players for ****'s sake!! We are not asking the world here!!!!!

  13. I hope someone asks Gazidis about the cash situation and what the plans are.

I see in the very latest accounts that nearly ALL of our cash has disappeared to be replaced with short term deposits (investments). What are they, Ivan? £165m at he start of the year has turned into £9m.

  16. Very good article here:
    http://angryofislington.com/2012/01/22/cashing-in-arsenals-ever-growing-cash-balances/

We should get this guy in to ask Ivan a few questions... spells out our £200m cash position very clearly and highlights in numbers that Gazidis' claim that we need all our cash to fund wages through the season is a complete and utter lie to the fans.

It also highlights the lie that many fans have believed about the 'lack of funds' due to the stadium debt... that move actually made us a lot richer immediately.

More to the point, how has he managed to spend 156 million in 1 season, and none of it on players?

  18. The money has been put into short term investments according to the accounts. I am not sure what these are - no one other than board will be. Could be simply higher interest bank accounts, or could be Kroenke's personal investments... I'd like the question to be asked of Gazidis though.

    Definition of 'Short-Term Investments'
An account in the current assets section of a company's balance sheet. This account contains any investments that a company has made that will expire within one year. For the most part, these accounts contain stocks and bonds that can be liquidated fairly quickly.
    Investopedia Says
    Investopedia explains 'Short-Term Investments'
Most companies in a strong cash position have a short-term investments account on the balance sheet. This means that a company can afford to invest excess cash in stocks and bonds to earn higher interest than what would be earned from a normal savings account.

This suggests no plans to spend within a year...........are we surprised?

  20. No I am not surprised - it's just another way of the club milking every last penny of profit instead of investing in the team. Hardly a sustainable model - more like a cash cow.
