Given that in the past Sunderland has fought against the royalist armies of newcastle and durham and throughout history the citizens of sunderland have paid taxes to benefit the royalist chartered city of Newcastle. The USA, France and Germany to name but three are republics, and I don't see many signs of enjoyment being banned there... Having said that, I do believe that the Queen has and is a great ambassador for this country, and I do have respect for her..
This. We don't need a royal family and would be far better off without this class ridden dinosaur of a regime. However, if she wanted to put her name forward in a democratic vote for the Presidential Head of State and the vast majority voted for her, I'd happily accept her role. As it stands, an accident of birth is no way to determine the Head of State and anyone who thinks that this monarch is not a political animal as well (and one from the right wing of the political divide) are simply blinkered and are turning a blind eye. She is the major accepted figure head of the minority ruling classes in this country, that imo hold it back, that wish to keep the majority (that's me and you folks) in their deferential place. **** the monarchy indeed and long live a democratically elected republic, voted by the people, for the people, of the people.
Perhaps you have a better idea Syd? Military government? Ruled by Monarchy? Maybe when the people wake up and see the shambles we have, those who didn't vote last time will do so next time. If only 35% of the people eligible actually vote, then what we get is a bunch of thieving, inept cock suckers in charge. However, when this occurs, those that don't vote should be ashamed of themselves. Millions of people around the world die every year fighting for a free democratic election but I don't see many people dying for any alternatives? Do you?
although I do have a big patriotic feeling.especially this weekend. I am not sure in 2012 we need a bunch of German inbreds heading up our country. This family are more disfunctional than Ozzies Osbournes, But I do admire the Queen, her commitment and her sense of duty. I love my country and my flag and hate it when its only ever associated with either right wing fascist nutters or the royal family. I am a supporter of neither but still love to wear the nations colours and salute its flag, especially those brave men and women who fight under it.
In truth I cant get hung up either way, it makes little difference in my little world but I am enjoying Derby day and love the way we can put on a show. So me, will enjoy the weekend then go back to not caring either way.

As a Scot, I could say **** the English, your royal family, and your crumpets. Give me Independence (i dont think Independence is right just now, London has stolen all the North Sea money anyway). But when watching the news down here in Oz/Singapore, it's good to see the country united for something, waving their flags about and proud to be British. You don't see that much anymore. Last time was when Wills married that lassie with the fit sister who has a nice arse. Britain is losing its identity, its becoming to PC, catering for the massive influx of muslims, africans, Poles, and Pakistanis. And it could be worse, it could be Australia. The Liberal government under Johnny Howard from 1996 was strong, mostly always had a surplus, minimal unemployment, and reward those who work hard. Since he lost to Kevin 07 due to some workchoice agreements the working class casuals didn't agree with, the country has gone to ****. We now have a Socialist ginger bitch in our parliament who has been in office TWICE, WITHOUT ever being voted in ONCE! Yep, she backstabbed Kevin to take the top job, then the election came, it was dead even between Labour and Liberals (she is Labour), so the Independents sided with whoever lined their pockets the best (this was Labour and those ****in hippies, The Greens). So she came in as Prime Minister after promising even more hardcore Socialists/Communists **** she would struggle to deliver, and she did it all without the public voting her in. This country is going down the crapper with this government in office.
Hindsight but I wonder what would have happened if 1st past the post was voted in, and then the Queen put her name on the Ballot Paper for a Monarchy (proper one) for the next 4 years. Democrcy is all well and good, but when you only really have 2 parties that can get power, and 2 dumb ****s the Prime minister Jobs then what chance have we got, an Independent will never be PM, Unless the voting system was changed to first past the post, its wasnt, people didnt like the idea, so we are stuck with the 2 (3 if you count the lib dems) but they all lie though their back teeth and are much of a muchness anyway.
i like the queen and the main royal family and they bring in more money then they spend however.... look at spain they are the modern royal family they live in a modern appartment and are avalible for functions ect... and i fell that what we need in the past the royal family was far from perfect but the queen has been amazing for our country and done alot for us
Anyone with a smattering of history will know that the royal families of this, and every other country, have no equals when it comes to backstabbing, disloyalty and treachery. The reverence with which they are treated in this country astonishes me and shows what a good PR job has been done on the royals. There is something incredibly phlegmatic about the English working classes that I have never been able to understand. No matter what the poverty, injustice and humiliation they have had to endure, one wave of a privileged, white gloved hand is seemingly all it takes to calm them down. We actually got rid of the parasites in the 1650s but apparently the idiots wanted them back for some strange reason. I shall avoid the Jubilee studiously and I expect other thinking people will do the same.
I believe we should have a republic... Then we can eventually start a galactic empire and create the death star!
