It was always going to come to this, wasn't it? Rangers, not content with having defrauded the taxpayer, wrecked havoc on the national game, corrupted the institutions in charge of it and terrorised those who would hold them to account, are now on the cusp of bringing down the wrath of FIFA on us all. Celebrate that, if you want. To me, you've won a lucky hand of poker and wound up with a third class ticket on The Titanic. (You remember how it ends, right? Freezing to death on a door in the middle of the Atlantic...) Accepting your punishment would have seen you end this thing with some dignity, some measure of acceptance for your sins. To actually be seeking to overturn a signing ban when you're telling creditors, including the Ambulance Service, charities, the police and the very football clubs you need to vote your Frankenstein's Monster club back into the SPL, that you don't have a pot to piss in shows a brass neck which really is breathtaking. You used to call Celtic "the beggars." I love the new look Rangers, with it's own grubby hands outstretched, asking for charity, for favours, for leniency, for a wee hand covering the leccy bill. I like you guys ripped of "dignity", of class. It formalises what we've always suspected; that underneath that veneer of smugness and superiority was a club of shifty eyed villains and criminal crackpots, determined, at all costs, to maintain power. Like those Eastern European dictatorships of old, the time is coming when those outside your walls will be clambering over them, and your club will be helpless before the angry mob. Tell me how it feels to be a Rangers fan right now. Tell me about the sense of pride which comes from rattling the tin cup. Tell me good it feels to be on your knees. Explain to me the emotions as you lurch from one disaster to another, like a drunk on a Saturday night who has lost his wallet, dropped his keys, been sick on his suit jacket and crapped in his pants. Doesn't do a lot for the impression of dignity, does it? How does it feel to be so unloved that your saviours are self admittedly out to scalp you for the remainder of what you are worth? Tell me how the Greatest Club in The World can have been sold for a quid twice now in a year? What does that do to your self respect? The best you can hope for now is a slow death, as we waltz into the distance. You realise that these events have made Neil Lennon a virtual shoe-in for the status of Legend, right? You do get that your collapse will dovetail perfectly with his ascendancy, as he becomes the most successful manager in this nation since Stein? Is that much clear to you? Oh I think you're going to enjoy years of penury and suffering, as we enjoy the same period dressed for success. I am glad you guys don't do walking away. I want to see Ibrox filled every second week. I want to see you all huddled there en masse, watching as your side is relegated to the status of a Motherwell or Hibs. I want to see the banners proclaiming "Green Out", and to hear the calls for the head of Junior Legned, Super Ally. Three years of no European football. Stripped of trophies fraudulently won. Hated by every club in the land, as an example of cheating and shamed in the history books forevermore. The days of multi-million pound signings are gone forever. You are now what you were before Murray and the madness arrived - a Scottish club, without a discernible fan base outside this country. Celtic are playing Real Madrid this close season. That's a measure of our global brand. Your own global brand is going to attain the status of those other great exports from the organised crime syndicates of the world; cheap gin, pirate DVD's and heroin. Enjoy Linfield though. Followed by visits to Inverness, Peterhead and Edinburgh. And that's just the guided tour of the jails. For football, the thrills await you at Annan, Berwick and Montrose. A Greek king names Pyrrhus once triumphed in a major battle with the Roman's. His victory at the Battle of Asculum cost him the better part of his army, and he said after it that "one more such victory shall ruin me." He would have recognised your "win" today for what it is. A disaster. But hey, you are still Ra Peepil... and all that goes with that. God help you.
Better to make a witless retort than attempt to deconstruct a post and make a roaring **** of it What exactly do you think is idiotic about that post?
Hmm. At the risk of being punched..... I think this short essay has maybe been posted elsewhere a few times and whilst I wouldnât say there was anything particularly âidioticâ about it, right enough, the sneering triumphalism certainly feels fairly classless - which may be rather bewildering to the casual onlooker as this is often cited as a character defect in (some) Rangers fans with the irreflective dumbness of their We Are The People mindset. It almost made me feel sorry for the wholly knackered and increasingly disreputable Ibrox outfit. If the intention of the writer was to place themselves in the same rancid pool of graceless vindictiveness, however, then fair enough, thatâs a job really well done. (Although, to be fair, the first three paragraphs felt pretty reasonable, give or take the occasional lunge towards hyperbole.) Humility is a foreign country; hubris is home sweet home. And the Glasgow freakshow continuesâ¦â¦ This seemingly hardwired disdain for the rest of Scottish football could just as easily have come out of the mouths of the least impressive element of the Rangers support and I canât really imagine why anyone should feel particularly impressed or comforted by such a thing. Sure, Celtic and Neil Lennon may very well go on to win everything and ascend to the level of legends â although it didnât happen this season just past â but to see the belief so sneeringly articulated is hardly a heartwarming spectacle. I struggle to distinguish between the rancid mindset of some Rangers fans I've been recently reading and the horrifying levels of blinkered self-satisfaction I've just read on this ugly wee page. This may feel slightly ironic to some, perhaps, as the author of the piece appears to leave both things at the door before spilling his bile into the foyer. Anyway, rise above it, listen to your better angels and try not to mimic the worst elements of those you effect to hold in contempt - this would be my unsought advice to any Celtic fan tempted to adopt such a needlessly vindictive and gratingly self-loving outlook. Alternatively, of course, do exactly as you please. From the gobsmacked realms of the Diddysphere, kind regards etc.... Nelson Mandela
I posted that before I read beyond the first three paragraphs as I intended to dissect them myself... I then lost the motivation and thought I'd turn it on the accuser. I still haven't read the rest of it but I am interested in the response. I am not adverse to a bit of "Get it up ye". But there is time for that. There were people on this site putting forward an absolutely ludicrous defence for the tax policy of Craig Whyte. The defence had no credibility, but like any defence, it needed to be examined. Upon examination and the release of the SFA's findings it was evident that this defence was absolute bunkum. Whoever it was that proposed this defence (I think there were two of them) hasn't come on here to concede the point. They haven't even recognised it. It was quite obviously a far fetched defence. I doubt they even believed it (although the delivery was straight laced). I feel I could and should have raised it at the time or shortly afterwards. Not just because I was right but because there has been no acknowledgement of my righteousness. I don't particularly have an ego, nor do I have any wish for it to be massaged but when someone contests a point with you and are then shown to be wrong and they then fail to acknowledge that there is a real urge to issue a wee reninder about it that can then very easily transcend into "horrifying levels of blinkered self-satisfaction" and woe betide who or what gets caught in the crossfire. It is ugly, but I get it and am guilty of it and in that instance can see the root of it being in downright denial.
Ach, itâs a fine line to tread, I suppose, and the difference between a perfectly normal (and fully expected) giruy and something which teeters towards a greater ugliness is probably pretty hard to detect. I just happened to feel that this crossed that slippery line. I donât know. The difficulty with my approach, of course, is that it makes me seem like a sniffily pious and joyless little ****er who would take the fun out of these things. Galling. In my defence, however, I can say with some reasonable measure of certainty that I actually am a sniffily pious and joyless little ****er. Whatâs not to like? You must name and shame these people who defended Craig Whyte's tax policy, Rebel. It's the way forward. Truth and Reconciliation. We must set up a commission. In fact, I've been astonished at the levels of denial I've seen in certain Rangersy quarters. This, coupled with an obvious lack of contrition, has worn my sympathy and patience near clean away. And the squealing sense of victimhood hardly helps balance my books in their favour. Still, on we go.....
Interesting you should talk of truth and reconciliation. Sinn Fein have released their vision for it up here and the DUP won't comment on it till they release their vision of truth and reconciliation. I would say who it was if I could remember. I wouldn't want to do anyone a disservice (well, I would. I'd just like to be accurate with it). I had written a load of stuff there that would appear like I was blowing my own trumpet and would reveal an awful lot about me. Reading it back I thought I sounded like a bit of a knob (more than usual) so I deleted it. It was an explanation of why I am completely and utterly unsurprised by what has gone on at Ibrox and why it has been completely obvious to me that this was coming since at least the middle of 2005. As these things have been revealed I have gotten used to the excuse making and it is only now that any of them are even recognising that perhaps there may have been some dodgy dealings going on. As far as they are concerned, they can personally distance themselves from Whyte's taxation policy and nothing has yet been proven with regards to the misuse of EBT's. I have an unusual faith in humanity and I still harbour the hope that there shall be some contrition when the EBT findings are released. Of course, we are all collectively culpable for *****s and you are all collectively culpable for bestiality but when it comes to a massive tax fraud involving scores of people, culpability and punishment should be meted out to individuals and not the collective and any suggestion to the contrary should be met with incredulity.
Ah, I don’t think I’d heard that before about Sinn Fein and the DUP, but it’s almost sweet and funny in its predictability. And who has an exclusive handle on the perception of “truth”, after all? Even the actuality of “truth” – with seemingly verifiable facts to back it up - will be likely to garner a dismissive snort from those who would rather that something else be considered historically accurate and true. It’s enough to make my head melt. (It’s also quite a good idea, though, this truth and reconciliation malarkey, and no matter how long it takes it’s probably worth following through – I’m saying this off the top of my head and speaking very generally.) That’s a shame that you deleted stuff – I’m always game for reading long answers – but if you felt it made you seem like a tool, fair enough. I generally just keep on writing, knowing full well it will make me seem like a ****stain, and then try to talk myself down from the precipice and convince other people I’m okay after the event, with varying degrees of “success”. It’s part of the fun. But it’s only a few years since I reignited my interest in football – I had to be well shot of Glasgow to do this (the people there utterly ruined it for me) – and so I’ve probably missed an awful lot about Rangers and certainly can’t claim to have seen all of this coming since as early as 2005. I knew they were spending (and boasting) recklessly, but fell into the lazy trap of assuming – with absolutely nothing to back up my hunch – that David Murray probably knew more or less what he was doing. And he probably did know more or less what he was doing, in fact, it’s just that what he was doing was ****ing disgusting. Yes, I’m sure people can personally distance themselves from Whyte’s taxation policy – I’d certainly want to – but, like you, what staggers me is that some people seem to want to distance Rangers from this, as well, as if the two things are entirely separate. Rangers’ counsel (during the most recent stramash with the Tribunal) was (repeatedly) referred to the case of Tesco Supermarkets Ltd vs Natrass, apparently. In his beautifully crafted judgement, Lord Reid stated that: ”A living person has a mind which can have knowledge or intention or be negligent and he has hands to carry out his intentions. A corporation has none of these: it must act through living persons, though not always one and the same person. Then the person who acts is not speaking or acting for the company. He is acting as the company and his mind which directs his mind is the mind of the company.” As someone - the same person who posted the above snippet - on the Rangerstaxcase blog pointed out: “Craig Whyte was majority shareholder, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive of the company. A clearer example of a person being “the directing will and mind” of the company would be hard to find. He was Rangers.” And that should really be an end to it. But no, some people persist - perhaps overlooking the salient point of the matter that to follow their own logic through to its distorting conclusion would render corporations not to be liable for anything at all. Ever. This is maybe a form of madness, no? Anyway, enough already.
there is no point pontificating with Psycho on here Weeble. he's far too erudite for the likes of you and me. best to shuffle off methinks.
