It looks like it is all, or largely, money related. Nearly certain in Holt's case although PL wanting out has probably influenced that a bit too. Would not be surprised to see Holt follow him on a bigger wage packet and longer contract.

They both knew 3 years ago, when they joined at the same time what the score was with our finances and after this next season we will be debt free. That was the plan over a period of 7 years, it will take 4 in reality to achieve and now they want to jump ship.

Maybe it is ego but that will not impress the CEO David McNally as he will all he can to get the club financially stable and as good as self reliant as possible. Could mean dropping back down to the Championship though as it appears we do not have much cash available this year.

Sky Sports are now saying there has been an official approach and Malky is the clear favourite with the bookies. I really hope it doesn't happen as I think Malky would be great for us in the long term. Having said that the chance of managing a Premier League team is something every manager dreams of and I for one wouldn't begrudge him his chance.

I don't get all this hysteria over a manager. If he stays, he carries on the work he started, if he leaves somebody else picks up the reins and we go again. I am more concerned about the silence over the restructuring of our club.

I mentioned that on a different thread the other day ITIWRAN.

We may get a clearer picture in the netx few days as MMs position may force some communication. If he stays, he'll be stating that there is something worth staying for. If he goes, the replacement will signify which way the Malaysians are inclined.

A concern if MM goes whould be Whitts future. I can imagine MM would like to take him with him.

Just like Rogers is looking at Glyfi (Iknow technically he isn't yet a Swan), Allen and Williams.

    Worrying times for both clubs.

I am fed up with modern football and all it stands for. No loyalty from managers,no loyalty from players and no loyalty from the clubs. Loyalty is a trait of the fans only.

Understood but the fans don't have much choice unless in a larger city with more than 1 club or become a plastic. For players and managers its all about getting to the highest level possible and the quicker the better.

Last I heard on Norwcih was they were looking at Neil Lennon from Celtic, although that was a couple of hours ago.

If MM leaves for Norwich I can understand why but it will be a pity for us as he has rebuilt the relationship with the team and fans, got good support behind him and if the owners release some cash he has every opportunity to take us forward in 2012/13.

If he leaves we will have to endure that awful process we went through last summer unless they have someone lined up to step in quickly. The delay in team building will do us no favours either.

    Update:

Norwich deny they have spoken to Lennon or have any intention of doing so.

    Must be Lennon then.

Does that make things better for us? Didn't MM play for Celtic as well?

City say that up to now there has been no approach for MM but if there is they will do everything in their power to keep him.
Everything is a very big word.

    Amen to that.

Respectfully, I do hope we get Malky - can see him being much more loyal to Norwich than Lambert ever was - just hope he's half decent at managing too. What style of football does he have you guys playing?

Huh? How loyal would that make him to Cardiff having just signed a 3 year extension to his contract here?

ITI is spot on - nothing in football is as loyal as the fans (and a few passionate owners like Gibbo at Boro).

Admittedly, that wouldn't be showing loyalty towards you, but, again with respect, if he did come to Norwich, i can see him wishing to stay for a good few years, seeing as he never wanted to leave Carrow Road in the first place.

Back to my original question, what style of football does he have you playing?

I wouldn't blame Malky if he was offered the chance to go to you and took it. Although it would do a huge amount for the morale of team, fans and owners at Cardiff if he said "Thanks but no thanks, I came to Cardiff to do a job and I want to see it through". In football's current climate that would mean so much.

If he does go to you though beware, he only did a year or so at Watford, has been with us just a year and could well have an eye further up the greasy pole that is football management.

As for style of football, we were one of the hardest sides to beat in the Championship but also had, I think, the highest number of draws and lost approx. 28 points from winning positions. Not the most exciting brand of football although played some good football first half of the season and kept possession well until opposing sides realised that by pressing us they could force us to make mistakes or lump the ball upfield where, in the main, 2 of Snow White's little helpers rarely won a ball in the air. We also lacked any sort of pace out wide to vary play.

However, in fairness to Malky, he started with about 12 players and had to build a squad very quickly, which turned out to be good enough to be runners up in the Carling Cup Final (could have won with sensible penalty taking) and made the play offs. A very good effort in reality and with "his own squad" next season we are hoping for even better things in the league if he stays with us.

I think you would do much better going for Poyet, Holloway or Lennon. <whistle>

I really don't care whether Malky stays or goes. If he stays I think he can bring success but if he goes someone else will bring that success. There is no loyalty at all in the modern game, from managers, players or clubs. That's why badge kissing players make me sick.

theres no loyalty from the clubs either, just ask AVB, mcleish, dalglish, hodgson, warnock etc etc.

if we had a crap start under mackay then i wouldnt be demanding loyalty from the club to keep him despite bad results.

Taken from another MB maybe Thai could comment.

    by BigGwynram

The story i have been told is that the club would not provide anywhere near the funds needed for Norwich to compete at the level Paul Lambert was looking for.Now this wasn't just providing money to buy new players, it was also a case of not offering improved terms that were attractive to the players out of or coming to the end of their contracts, and there will be a few Norwich players wanting away.

Now as a manager, Paul Lambert would know his squads ability and that more than likely they would struggle in the Premiership without attracting new players and definitely not without some want away stars.

Now looking at it from the club's point of view, going up to the Premiership without increasing the costs massively, would be seen as good business, because even relegation in the first year would bring parachute payments that would set them up and be paid for three years.

But Paul Lambert would be switched on enough to know he would be the scapegoat for failure in the fans eyes and this would lead possibly to getting him sacked.

Paul Lambert is close friends with Malky and I'm sure Malky will be well aware of the constraints that would be placed on him.

So hopefully, Malky wont be tempted, and at the end of the day even though Norwich are in the Prem this season, would you really view them as a much bigger club than Cardiff.

The situation with Brendan is so different, and who can blame him or Malky for that mater if an offer like that from what is seen as one of the bigger clubs came along.

Loyalty as got to be a two way think and every manager knows that there would be no loyalty from the club o the fans if results don't go the right way.

Tricky one. I have seen two articles this week. One suggests we have about £4m to spend this summer, the other suggests more like £16m, so take from that whatever you can <laugh>
As far players go, it only appears to Holt that is looking of more. He is 31 at wanted a longer contract to take him beyond 2014 (his current contract). He will be 33! He has only played about 60% of games this season and I think is our highest earner. Why would the board offer him more when he is likely to play less or the same number of games?

Possibly, possibly not although losing a 15 goal striker certainly will not help if we can't replace him.

The thing is, and everyone connected with the club has been aware of this for 3 years......we MUST clear our external debts by next year. We are on target to do just that. PL knew this from day one but now he has done what he has done with Norwich feels he expects more. Up to a point he is probably right but to effectively demand it knowing full well it wasn't going to happen suggest he was engineering a way out for whatever reason. Also, with what he has achieved, there is no way in the world he would be sacked if we went down. He would get the chance to get us back up again, of that I have no doubt <ok>

Of course we are a bigger club, on just about every level (at this time) and I think that has been the case throughout football history. It might change IF you owners do something amazing with your club, otherwise I think you will never come near us.

MM still likes our club and I still see him as a manager for us in years to come - just not now thanks <ok>

There is no loyalty left in the game except from the fans (not the plastics obviously)

    Cheers Thai,

Good to get a Norwich point of view, can't argue with your answers.
