Depends what you read. From what I heard, Rodgers was first choice, as Stevie said, but didn't want to simply be 'part of a process' of elimination for fear of losing what he'd done at Swansea. When he heard he was the first choice and asked again for an interview, he said yes. It's very likely that the Martinez stuff occured somewhere inbetween the two conversations with Rodgers.
Are you an oot? It is quite widely known in Liverpool at least that Stevie and most of the English lads didn't get on with Kenny. If the owners knew that then they would keep Stevie in the loop so it didn't happen again.
Surely, if Brendan Rodgers is serious about building a new era, then Gerrard and Carragher should be the last Players on his mind. The idea that a Player, Captain or not, should be 'kept in the loop' is foolish in the extreme.
Of course he would be. Gerrard probably more than carragher would be the one you would want on your side. If,as he says he was "kept in the loop " then his influence at the club is obvious,a player who ,as captain, the others would turn to for advice etc. building a new era does not mean discarding the experience and influence of these type of players. Maybe if AVB had done the same he might still be managing Chelsea.
If Rodgers was first choice why interview your other choice (Martinez) first LAL. Gerrard would say that wouldnt he to save face, hardly going to come out and say otherwise. LAL
Gerrard is just saying what the fans and owners want to hear. I very much doubt he was in contact with any of the players from Chelsea given that they only just joined up with the squad - only last week he said that Terry had made no contact with him. It's going to be hard for Rodgers, his authority will be compromised by the new DoF (who will have to be a big name to attract top players) and the captain is appears to have too much influence.
By BS do you mean the interview process that managers would usually go through? I'm not sure that FSG have got it right many times- if at all. They are trying to apply a stats based model taken from an individual sport to a team game. In short, they don't have a clue about football.
Do you really think a Fox camera crew being given access to private meetings is a good thing? The owners priority is not your club, it is making money. You just have to hope that they strike it lucky ala Mike Ashley- otherwise I suspect they will strip the club bare and bugger off.
Gerrard playing lip service. Don't read anything into it. Last week he gave an interview saying he was excited about working with Martinez
It wasn't BR that kept him in the loop. By putting Gerrard in this privileged position, the owners have immediately placed the incoming Manager's authority into question, what if BR doesn't see Gerrard fitting his system? Rodgers didn't want a Football/Sporting Director with the Owner's ear, he certainly won't want a Player having it.
Why doesn't it? He was asked about Martinez. Is he going to say: 'well actually, he won't get the job.' He said 'I can now go on record', meaning that he was evidently asked to keep quiet beforehand.
