Evra's scissor was done outside the area - you can see it in the third frame below - that's when Ramires' running motion was interrupted causing the fall. But anyway, all irrelevant now. Roll on next Tuesday! please log in to view this image
Having been a referee after my playing career I can tell you that the offence above is and was a penalty, the contact continued into the box and culminated in preventing Ramires a scoring opportunity. Looking at the online newspapers they all say the same as does Graham Poll (Mail online) but as you say all academic now and like you are looking forward to going to our happy hunting ground at O.T on Tuesday. Ps. Would have been refreshing for fergie when asked about the penalty if he had said 'Yes we got a bit of luck there' instead of the predictable "I thought the lad made the most of it"
when you see it like that, its close i'll give you. However we are talking about the ref not giving it having seen it live. In real time, it looks a pen every day of the week. The fact a free kick wasn't given says to me the ref thought it was inside and didn't want to make the decision. Strange given he blew up for everything else he saw all night for both sides.
That's interesting, cos having also been a ref my first instinct (and what was taught to me when training) would have been to look for the stud marks. Either the stud marks left by the tackling player or, in the case of a tackle off the ground like Evra's, for the last set of stud marks left by the player being fouled. They would probably have been just outside the box. Although the site that has made that picture has missed out the few frames between the tackle and the players falling, so maybe Ramires put his left foot down in the box before going to ground. I think most of the papers aren't discussing it cos it's academic - the main thing is that the decision wasn't given. I'm sure if the penalty had been given the United players would have pointed to some of the stud marks outside the box and there would have been more debate like their was against West Ham. Discussing whether it's inside or outside the box would be like discussing whether Evra should get a one or two match ban (as he'd already been booked before the foul). You wish mate! SAF may admit that we were lucky when the tie is over (or maybe when the season is over), but until then he generally never gives credit to the opponents or takes away from his own team in public. Ultimately he doesn't care what the public think, only what Evra's mental state will be like for the next game. Not particularly nice of him, but maybe that's the price of staying at the top for so long?
Thing is (I may be stating the obvious here...) He never even gave a foul (inside or outside the box)
Evra got sod all of the ball! The whole of the football world all the fans and the millions watching plus all the pundits, newspapers in fact I think you are the only person who has said it may not have been? are you Ray Charles?
Yeah mate, it was well easy to call it, at any angle it is a red and a penalty. Penalty or Freekick can't remember but it was a red and that is not even up for discussion people.
so funny to hear Chelsea fans moaning about a penalty decision after what happened in the last few games at the bridge HAHAHAHA
