I just hope he is given time at least two seasons, after all we are not Chelski. If you ignore the Hodgson debacle and the fact Kenny was brought in to calm things down ( as opposed to us searching for a new manager ) LFC have always given their managers time.

I have a good feeling about him and think he will be a breath of fresh air to the club. I do expect our style of play to change and us to hold the ball more. Last season it was usually three or four passes then look up and hoof forward and hope.

if you work on the premise that 2-3 defenders can with discipline hold up an attack, force it wide or whatever while other players come back then I think its quite reasonable to press up high and force errors... most goals come from errors... if a defender errs its a goal, if a forward loses it nobody cares.

We've for way way too long seen guys tap it about the back with zero movement up top and midfielders trotting forward rather than making the play. I hope the play is effort and pressing driven as any player can do this.

The thing that I most admire about Suarez is his desire to chase down and win the ball. Constantly harrassing defenders and you see can his frustration when his teammates aren't helping. We need more players like him in the team - not only technically very good but has the hunger.

Hopefully success will come in the long term. I'm excited that in the short term the football will be interesting and hint at a deeper philosophy at work.

I had to read that part of what he said a few times before I got what he meant. At first, I thought he was refering to our players as dogs who he wanted to educate <yikes>

I have the same idea with him on that, I don't like the word drills for example, reminds me of military stuff. We are educating, professional, perfect word there.

He is a decent prospect, and one, like Martinez, who could have the makings of a 1st Class Manager.

But how long are your Owners prepared to play the role of also-rans?

If they set him targets (publicly), such as 6th next season and an expectation of 1 place higher per year thereafter, this is achievable.

If on the other hand, they expect him to deliver Champions League Football in 12 Months, then this is one of the most baffling appointments ever.

Sadly, I think it is a case of the latter.

And BR will be lucky to make it past Easter.

I think this is a lesson they'll have learned from KD. They publicly set him a target with an evolving team & so put immediate pressure on themselves to follow through when it wasn't met.

I think (unless he has us languishing in relegation like RH) BR will be given the full three years at least. I've read reports that Henry has said as much but haven't seen any direct quotes.

At the end of the day; they are setting out that this is THEIR way of doing things. Doubt they'll be so quick to say it's wrong.

And anyway; this is all based on the idea that progress won't be reasonably swift. I don't necessarily mean immediate top 4. Just competing for it. Its not impossible that he could get this squad with additions competitive if not winning those CL spots. I think this is another lesson they learnt last year. It takes more than writing £20m cheques to be competitive.

So now they're putting in place the entire structure. It will be an interesting experiment to watch.

I'll obviously support regardless :)

I do like (not directing this at you David) how people on one hand criticized KD for being out of date, & how no big club gave young innovative British managers a chance & now the same people are saying oooooh it's a big risk LFC are taking.

My answer is really? Big risk? Because we could fall from the top of the league; oh wait..... What's the worst that can happen: we have another few years in the wilderness league wise? It's clear they aren't going to manage us so badly we become a Leeds. So worst case scenario we stay roughly where we are in the league. Not a pleasant thought for a LFC fan but it's not the doom & gloom prophesied by many.

It's a good post Dirtyfrank.

The easy bit is appointing a 'longer term solution' Manager.

The hard bit is remembering that that was what you did.

I wish him all the best.

I would like to say a big 'well done ' to FSG for getting us a bright and exciting manager. It would appear that he is who they wanted and they went and got him. Martinez was just a 'fall-back' (although I rate him too ).
Many on here have been critical of the owners but since they took over I can't see that they have too much wrong and I am excited at the way they are looking to rebuild the club. Only thing missing now is some definate news on the stadium.

The man has to be given a chance to prove just how good he may become as a manager. Sure it is a risk but then so would any other candidate no matter how good their cv. It is, I hope, a positive appointment.

I would however, like to introduce a number of thoughts that have to be taken into consideration.

We were already engaged upon a 3 year development programme, having only narrowly survived the greatest catastrophe that this club has ever experienced (leaving aside Hysel & Hillsborough). Kenny did have a published 4th spot target which he missed. However, he did overhaul the squad, had us playing some of the most attractive football that we have played for years, but was dogged by our inability to play the first 11 that he really wanted to and some of the worst luck that we have seen (33 of them)! At the start of last season very few of us believed that we were anything near the finished article. However, for the best part of the season that target was still within our grasp. Therefore, to downplay our ability to challenge for a top 4 spot this season is rather disingenuous.

None of us have any idea just how much Rodgers has in his kitty - and neither should we or any other club! From his early comments it appears that Rodgers is of the same philosophy as many of us - buying young players that can add to the quality of our squad. You can say that this approach is obvious but it is good to see it proclaimed.

Rodgers is linked with Tiki-Taka. Well we can debate the similarities between that version of Tiki-Taka employed by Swansea and the Pass and Move style employed by Classic Liverpool sides. However, I would caution against throwing the baby out with the bath water. Ball retention lies at the heart of both styles and is strategically correct. However, 20+ passes by Swansea were more likely to end with a pass back to the goalkeeper than to produce an incisive pass into the opponents box. I really don't think such outcomes will sit well with the culture of LFC.

However, one element of Tiki-Taka that is often overlooked is the desire to win back possession as soon as possible. As somebody said above, Suarez already shows his desire to press the ball as soon as it is lost (often in isolation!). If we again return to Classic Liverpool sides, they all pressed the ball high up the pitch and attempted to regain it whilst still in their opponents half. Rushie wasn't only our goalscorer but also our first line of defence. I therefore hope that this aspects of the new approach is given priority.

You can't take the anger towards Dalglish being sacked and direct it towards Rodgers. That is a very pathetic thing to do.

Agreed <ok> I was gutted Kenny got sacked and the way they went about it....but will Kenny want us to get behind Rodgers and the team? Damn right he will <ok> Will Kenny be a happy man if BR is a success? I'd put my mortgage on it <ok> Will Kenny gloat and crow if R Brendan fails? I doubt it very much.

Still love Kenny and wish he'd been given more time.....but I will never hold that against BR. He is the man in the chair now and he deserves our 100% support. Impressive interview as well and I will be surprised (amazed even) if he doesn't keep the traditions of good football at LFC alive (just as KK always did).

Let's just hope he brings us a bit of luck as well <laugh> Bucks Luck

I could not agree more, the guy is an absolute role model of a born winner, hate to say it but his desire to win is similar to Rooney.

I agree, but he needs to calm down a bit on the waving his arms around at his team mates. I don’t like to see that!

Yeah good point, however I think much depends on how Suarez is off the field, if he is the genuine guy that I feel he is then I am not sure its a huge problem, if he is arrogant off the field then you may be right.
