I think times are moving on. They announced yesterday that the Queen will visit here at the end of June. When Royalty or prominent politicans visited here before they would not make their visit public until a few hours before hand incase the terrorists tried to attack. Now we have this and even this week Martin McGunniess refering to his hometown as Londonderry and commenting that Sinn Fein will meet with the Queen when she comes over here. They relaised that their years of carnage did no good and that taking the political route was the best way. If only they could drum that message into the loonies still out there planting bombs and killing people.
If the IRA got disbanded how would the leadership make any money? After all, that's what it's really about, money and power, otherwise there would be fighting all over Ireland where Catholics and Protestants live quite happily as neighbours, luckily for me, or I wouldn't exist.
The Provisional IRA got their retirement fund by robbing the Northern bank in belfast to the tune of £27m. The Real IRA no doubt would also have to have a cash incentive to put their weapons away, but I can't see that happening.

The FIRA are the ones that patrol festivals, the BIRA are available for birthday parties, the SIRA mainly focus their energy around swimming pools.
