The Match Thread Watford v Hull City The Hornets welcome the Tigers and the 10th team plays the 11th. The travelling folk of the East Riding of Yorkshire are going to visit to Hertfordshire. WATFORD • The Manager – Malky Mackay View attachment 1871 “We know very well how many points we've got left to play for. No one is settling for mid-table mediocrity. We've got to push on for absolutely everything we can get over these next games.” “There's a desire and a taste for the victories we've had recently, the kind of spirit that might propel us back into the Play-Off picture if things go well for us over the coming weeks.” • The Hornets Lloyd Doyley should be returning after missing the match at Coventry on saturday. Stephen McGinn will sit out another match with the damage to his knee ligaments. Adrian Mariappa has now left the naughty corner and will be available again after being sent off against Middlesbrough. • The Fan – chrisptrifle "I think its huge credit to both Malky and the team that we are even talking about the playoffs at this stage of the season. Not only were most pundits tipping us to struggle, but many of our own supporters were of the opinion that we would be 'relegated by Christmas'. I think that although we are only a long shot for the play-offs, stranger things have happened. Theres everything to play for and as long as we give it our best effort then nobody can complain about this season Come on boys - one last push !." Update on the Hornet's latest statistics HULL CITY • The Manager – Nigel Pearson "I'd never question the effort of the players, they give everything, but we were just found a little bit wanting. We didn't have the quality to break them down. We've got the players to do that but on this occasion, we didn't quite show that." "People were getting very frustrated. The players were getting very frustrated about how the game was going because it wasn't a typical performance from us. It's back to the drawing board and we go again this week”. • The Tigers Hull City are another club which is quiet about injuries. I am sure the Kingstonians will give some hints. • The Fan – 4thGenerationTiger “I agree that the players performance was dire, there was a serious lack of drive and movement from them. I also agree that fans generally need something to excite them and get them going. but turning up to a match and sitting quietly waiting for your team to get you motivated isn't, in my opinion what football is about. Supporters are there to support, from the first whistle to the last.” Update on the Tigers’ latest statistics Who will win? Current form After giving a good beating to S****horpe United the Tigers form has been a little odd. Four wins, two draws and three defeats which is not strange but all these games have not had more than two goals, CardiffCity managed two in their win but the only other games with two goals were the draws. In the same period Watford have four draws with three wins and three defeats. In comparison to HullCity’s 12 goals marked and only seven against them Watford have managed 14 goals marked and 12 conceded. Akureyri's Prediction: 0-0 Watford’s normally free scoring strikers will run into problems against HullCity’s solid defence and the Tigers will not be able to gain from that. There is a history The last match: HullCity 0 – Watford 0: In a very even match Watford felt robbed that they did not return home with a win. Both teams had the same number of shots at goal although Hull shots off target and Watford corners. Jordon Mutch pulled on a shirt for the second time and local hero Nick Barmby appeared for Hull as a second half substitution. For those of you who care this was the last Watford game I saw. Further into the past: Watford and HullCity have met only nineteen times in Watford. Twice in the FA Cup where three games were needed to get Watford into the fourth round, once in a promotion play-off when the Tigers went home with a 0-2 result. The other sixteen games were in the league and Watford have the upper hand there with seven wins to three and six draws. On the goals front Watford have the advantage with 30 goals against 21 with 28 againsts 18 in the league. The best wins were two 1-2 wins for Hull in the league and the play-off win of 0-2 and for Watford a 4-0 win in May 1979. On My Radio: If you cannot get to the game, BBC Radio 5live and BBC Humberside will cover the game. skál/skÃÂ¥l/cheers/salut Don't forget The Hornet's Nest on the BBC’s 606 or not606Drop in for some match chat. Let's not give up now. We should keep looking for wins instead of having a bad end of season...who knows....maybe the teams above us will crumble. Hull are a difficult side.....we're going to need Doyley back and hopefully Graham and Wiemann will put on their scoring boots
Hope we don't give up too - Hull are in a similar position to us - and we are at home - we owe them something for hte play offs too
Good one Ak It's going to be a tough game, but my heart says we can do it, and that'll spur us on for the remaining games. Everyone in our position has it tough, no reason why we can't keep winning
7 games left, its not over till its over boys ! even if we cant/dont make the play-off's we want to end up as high as possible so we've got something to better next season. also we'll look a more attractive club to any players we're after in the summer.
We've just gone on a 14-away game unbeaten run, a club record, beating the previous 13-away game streak from 1948/49. All good things come to an end and I reckon that record may end this weekend. Most of the Tigers' squad already appear to be on the beach. If you play anything like you did in the televised game at Loftus Road you should walk it (although 0-0 is a good shout).
Trying to think of a reason so I can go to the game!?! without upsetting the Mrs who I do not see Mon-Fri as it is, so she will not be happy if I vanish for most of Saturday! COYH!
Are there a lot of visually impaired people in Watford and is this thread also available in a braille version?
It seems ages since our last home game, I think I need directions! As for the game, we are in danger of "beach mentality". Team news is kind of good in that 2 first choice defenders are due to return, so I can see a clean sheet. Going forward I kind of believe we may have lost our attacking mojo, so I can see a 0-0 draw unfortunately. These people who expect play-off football are a tad optimistic in my view. Time to plan for the future. PS : this site isn't half as good as the beeb.
"PS : this site isn't half as good as the beeb." No Elixir ,once you get used to it ,its much better than the bbc and welcome and well done for finding us!
Hi - Elixir welcome to the Dark Nest - not6060 takes quite a bit of getting used to but there are lots of quite fun features to it - you can add pictures etc much easier, ignore all the silly statistics unless you are a numbers freak - they are mostly random You can post any time , you can have a conversation with people as there is no 3 minute delay and you can correct your own messages. All in all I now prefer it to 606 but I have been using it for a couple of months now
Lambretta - not sure why you think we are blind ........ Or are you referring to Ak's big fonts and colours. I would only ask if you've ever been to Iceland? My Blackberry really struggles to run this sight, the views are poorly setup for it and it runs like a dog, hence my comment re the beeb. As we all know the beeb are already closing down 606, but as you've seen there are many different sites trying to entice you in. I like so much about the beeb including their local football coverage, but with the beeb busy closing everything down, I fear for what little they might keep. However I will try to get on with this site.
Why, is big colourful writing popular in Iceland? (I confess, I've never been) This site does take a little getting used to, if you've got used to 606 and hopping from club to club is not quite as easy. But, as has been mentioned, the benefit of being able to upload clips and images is very good. We have by far the busiest board on here(Championship) and we have more members than we ever had on 606 and the fact that you can go off-topic has led to some entertaining discussions. Worth persevering.
Elixir - when you start to reply to a thread -click the go advanced button - and then if you scroll down you will get the chat in condensed format - easier to read on mobile devices
Lambretta I think the original article set up was originally designed by Ak for the original 606!! the template he uses had to be adjusted to work here!! although you would do better to ask Ak himself! One of our main critiscisms of not 606 was losing the banter with other sides fans especially on the matchthreads , but were getting there ! we have been here for a couple of months but more of us are coming over!!! give us a year or so and we might catch you guys up!!!
