Frank Lampard has been ruled out of the euro's. Jordan Henderson steps in. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18265377 Pretty sure Lampards England career is over. But this is great for Henderson.
Liverpool are now the most represented team in Hodgson's squad with 5 players. Gerrard, Carroll, Johnson, Downing and Henderson.
Honestly, Jordan doesn't deserve the spot, but he's getting really unfair media coverage about it all. I actually think Shelvey has performed better this season. Unfortunately, Roy, like most other England managers, picks players purely on their reputation and whether or not they play for the big teams. Henderson is just like Jones. Average (with potential), mixed season, neither going to set the Euros alight, both play for big teams, both with big price tags and both in the media light for whatever reason. Neither should be going on this season's performances. Carrick decided he was too good for a squad player role and turned his back on his country, as far as I'm concerned, he can get lost so I'm glad he didn't get called up.
Better news for Liverpool than England IMO Good experience for him Raise his confidence Plus they did say anyone at the euros wont be in the Olympic Squad, seein as the Olympics are at the start of the season, this has gotta be good for LFC Lots of opposition fans havin a go at Jordan , I think it says more about how sh*te English football is, who else could they have picked Carrick,Rodwell,Barton none of them world beaters are they
I hope that all this is good. A young midfield going to the tournament. I only hope Roy's (not just taking the p*ss he stated it himself) isn't even more cautious because he thinks in his head he has a vastly inexperienced team. He just doesn't rate young players. Hope they go fearless like Germany. Why not? Beat is beat: rather do it trying to bugger the other team than dropping the shorts and saying "mummy"
I'm happy for him to go, as I'm sure he'll be proud to be called up. Trouble is if, heaven forfend, England have a ****e tournament, and Hendo doesn't actually stand out then he and one or two others will probably bear the brunt of media opprobrium and that could have the opposite effect on his confidence. Hope not.
Good luck to him, its the first finals in years where very little is expected of the England team. Mind you knowing our media they'll be the usual outcry and witchunt when we get knocked out in the group stages.
all i can say is its good for him to go and learn. all learning is good. i agree that really he doesn't deserve the place.... i was suprised to here he was one on the stand by
Do I think Jordan Henderson is ready to be in the England squad? No. But it's not his fault that Cleverley, Wilshire, Barry and Lampard are crippled, and that Scholes and Carrick aren't interested. The lad was prepared to sacrifice his summer for the remote possibility of going to eastern Europe, and deserves some slack as a result.
I know the Daily Mail is a joke, but I cannot help myself from looking http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/euro2012/article-2152811/EURO-2012-Jordan-Henderson-called-replace-injured-Frank-Lampard.html So apparently the 21 year old, who made 37 appearances this season in his first season stepping up to a big club is a 'Liverpool Flop'. I don't think Jordan is ready for the national side and hope he doesn't get too much game time as I would hate to see him (and Carroll) made scapegoats for the inevitable failure (as anything other than an unrealistic semi / final appearance will be deemed).
How many games in to the season before some are blaming the "tired players we had at the euros" I wonder.
Well good luck to Jordan. Personally if I had been England manager I wouldnt have picked him, still a young lad who hasnt had the easiest of seasons, but who else do you pick. I think alot of people blame Henderson for not being a Gerrard type, which he's not. He's a hardworker who does alot of work without the sparkle and this doesnt stand out. One word on one of his peers, Wilshire. All flash and technique, but has played consistantly for 2yrs. For a player of his age to have such a bad injury track record, I dont think that England and Arsenal should be looking to rely on him too much. I feel he's a Kewell type, brilliant on his day but all too often injured.
Losing Barry was a bonus, but Lampard is a big loss. Even as a red, to think Henderson is Lampard's cover speak volume for the lack of quality in the English pool of players. However, you never know, he could make a difference. For me it's a couple of years too early.
