It would have had to be a red card via a 2nd yellow because he denied Ramires a definite chance on goal. Again the referee bottled it, FIFA directive as other years
Poor decisions? you should have seen what Platini's referee's have done to us over the last three years!
Red card via a second yellow? He wasn't on a first yellow at the time! Although looking at it again, Vidic probably wouldn't have gotten back to cover so it would have been a straight red. But wasn't the first contact outside the box? please log in to view this image
Yea but going by Saturday I'm shocked there was no penalty. By the way Swarbs can utd appeal the yellow card for VDS?
Nope. You can't appeal anything in Europe unless there's a case of mistaken identity. We got screwed over by that in 2009 with Fletcher's red card. England is actually one of the few countries that does have a process for appealing referee decisions - FIFA and Blatter are dead set against it and have threatened to ban English clubs from Europe if the appeal process is abused. FIFA basically has a directive that says that the referee's view is final, which is the same directive that's behind the "no retroactive punishment if the ref saw the incident" rule.
Thought as much. Seemed a tad harsh since there was little delay by VDS, he had been missing from the earlier EPL match due to an injury and just a few minutes before the yellow card, he pulled up and waved towards the bench after getting a knock.
