In fairness Spearing some liverpool fans are not happy. Here's an example. Just because he has an opinion different to yours doesn't make it any less valid. Personally I feel the appointment could be a good one. He is a good coach with a great desire to pass the ball something the Liverpool fans will love. He also ticks the box in his communication with the media something KD failed in. However can he cope with the pressure? Time will see.
Even though you chanted for him to leave and booed the **** out of him in his first season. Classy. Roy was sacked mid-season with us in relegation zone, notice the difference - If SAF drops you a place or two he's suddenly "too old, time to retire bla bla".
Hahaha. At least Liverpool have found their level, we have been telling you guys for a while now that the A class level of United, Barcelona etc is about 4 levels above you. You guys are currently hanging out with the Swanseas, Sunderlands, Evertons and Fulhams of the world.
I don't really see that example as proving anything different really. Rodgers is young and lacks experience at a big team. I would tend to agree that it would be an odd appointment if he was solo taking charge of the entire club - but he's not. We will more than likely be hiring either a director of football or a sporting directer (no idea what the difference is!) who will be significantly more experienced to help guide him through. Rodgers, in this setup, will be great. That example isn't criticising Rodgers as manager, just pointing out the man has flaws, and that the club will be taking measures to solve them. I see that opinion as being very similar to mine, not difference, and certainly not wrong. Listen to SSN or talksport if you don't already and hear what the morons who phone in are like (even the United fans are more clueless than you lot on not606 ). You'll see there's night and day between those and the ones even on here - from all clubs. The overwhelming majority of liverpool fans with any modicum of common sense see Rodgers as a great appointment as part of the new management setup. I fully expect him to get time, otherwise the board will have gone for an experienced manager instead of him.
Unfortunately I do from time to time listen to Talksport. Mickey Quinn who is a Liverpool supporter is sceptical about the Rodgers appointment and believes he will be fired if he fails to reach the top 4. Bit unfair in all honesty for him to be given time when your messiah wasn't.
I think most Liverpool fans are actually looking forward to what transpires and all the gumpf that is being written here is speculatory bullshit..... We may be the biggest poisoned chalice at the moment, because we want to get back to the top and competing for major honours.......But your club when fergie retires will be a far bigger poisoned chalice due to the size of the shoes that the manager will have to step into Im not going to be stereotypical and come out with the same old 'oncew fergie goes your doomed' talk.....But I will say that you will have to find one hell of a manger to replace fergie and give you the success you have been sou used to over the last twenty years..... liverpool owners are lucky in the sense that should everything go wrong with their appointments they always have Rafa and kenny (who will always come back to the club and give their all.) Would be good to hear some honest opinions from decent United fans on how they think rodgers will get on, rather than the tripe that comes out of CS's fingers
Hmm, I should have been more clear: "Listen to SSN or talksport if you don't already and hear what the morons who phone in, and the hosts, are like" I fully expect Rodgers to be given time, so long as we improve beyond 8th! I think if we came 5th but closed the gap points wise, the owners will be happy enough. They're demanding, no doubt, but not unreasonable. Kenny, for most red fans, should have gotten at least another year to continue his work, we did player better football under him. I suspect he was fired in part due to his league position, but also because the pressure was showing on him through his media conferences which really upped the negativity on the club. After the suarez/evra incident also, the board seemed keen to get rid of most the decision making people. From their perspective, losing kenny was an objective decision long term, not a footballing one. Rodgers will get time from them, I'm convinced they wouldn't have signed a young manager otherwise. Top 4 will be the goal, but solid progress will be acceptable for this forthcoming season.
If they accept progress then they have dramatically changed their goals considering what Henry expected last August. Rodgers does need time I agree as most managers do, but I still wonder will he be given it. Again time will tell.
A true Scouser opinion.........if you look at most of the fans, pundits (ex-liverpool) ex players and so on........They all thought that Rafa would be the ideal choice..........And I have to say I was thinking that aswell as i never wanted the guy to leave in the first place......... But ill give Rodgers his dues and give him time to try and turn our fortunes around
I think what will grate with the scousers fans who have been devotees/followers of KKK the buffoon, would be that this confirms: Rodgers >> Dalglish Rodgers has been sacked by Reading and followed on the base established by Martinez. But to be fair, he did spend some time at Chelsea so would have had some contact with millionaire players... Nevertheless for all the pretty football we are anticipating, Rodgers must be a big gamble as he had never managed at a "big" club before. The scousers have never taken on a relative unknown. Even Roy was an established experienced manager with the Fulham record under his belt. The scousers might surprise all of us and challenge the top four but I wouldn't be surprised if the scousers stayed for most of the season in the bottom half.
its very difficult to predict at the moment...Will there be a war chest......Will some players want out? (Reina and co wanted rafa)......if everything goes right, we could be top 4.......if it doesnt.........i dont like to think
Depends if you'd call me decent, but based on what i've seen of Rodgers, which was quite a few games the year they got promoted from the championship and a couple at the Liberty last season plus a few in the pubs as loads eere showing all the games live, he is more than capable of doing a good job for you. At Swansea there were good foundations in place for the way he likes the game played, Martinez was similar and so was Sousa up to a point, so he slotted in quickly which I don't ses happening at Liverpool as he will need to install how he likes it played into your players. That'll take a bit of time. It all depends on how much time he's given I reckon, not as much as he'd like is my guess and the pressure will be an unknown quantity to him as the city of Swansea was immensly grateful for just being in the PL last season and embraced eveything he did and expectation was low. That won't be the case at Liverpool where he will be scrutinised in every move he makes and be expected to handle experienced players wiht massive ego's. I think he's capable of doing the job, I just think it'll be two or three season until he gets it's bang on and I doubt he'll be given the time.
Wum attempt? I initiated the thread.. It is a very brave gamble by the scousers. Rodgers had never transformed a hit and rush long ball side into a patient passing side. He inherited a good passing side at Swansea. I hear a load of nonsense about giving him time. If he is not making any progress how much time will he need? It was obvious that even if KKK the buffoon had been given 10 years ihe would not have achieved the top 4 target. The moronic scousers who supported him blindly even during that disgraceful Suarez episode could not see that. The cold calculating owners could!
I disagree about the time factor. Most managers need some time, 2-3 seasons. SAF needed a few before winning trophies. He himself said when AVB got sacked, "When you are young you need time and obviously in this industry you don't get a lot of time unfortunately, so it is sad in a way." I do agree that if he fails to meet their targets and goals the pressure will mount and I suspect Henry will be prepared to say goodbye. I mean he fired their messiah without any mercy so Rodgers would IMO be put out the door with even more haste if they decide to.
I don't think any manager at a "bigger club" will be given time to build a project anymore (not in the premier league anyway).... When Fergie retires it will be the same.. There's so much more money in football, the foreign owners, and the fact that an increasing number of clubs think they have the divine right to success. The only way a manager will be given a long time is if he constantly achieves success right from day one... and only one team can win every year. Everyone likes to think " Oh the board will accept the progress this season, and see the big picture" but it's not true. Even Redknapp, who it could be argued is building a project at spurs - If he fails to get top 4 this year, he'll be shifted.
You may have started the thread, but it says alot when the most interesting and balanced discussion occurs between people when you're not involved. And yes, wum. Every time you throw in these ******ed phrases/words like "KKK", "bufoon", "moronic scousers", "supported blindly", "Rodgers > Dalglish", saying that he simply built on what Martinez had done and that you wouldn't be surprised if we spent most the season in the bottom half. How do you expect any reasoned discussion when you're so absurdly biased, opinionated and provocative in what you say? I don't come here spouting crap about United, I try to be reasoned whilst honest if I feel the need to talk about you because it's actually interesting. You, on the otherhand, seem to exist solely to discredit, insult and belittle anything to do with Liverpool at any opportunity.
What I have said is true though ! Remember what happened to Hodgson ? One of his key faults he was accused of having by some scousers fans was that he was too 'friendly ' with Fergie.
