My first thought was you must be joking but the more I read up on him the more it makes me think it could work. He has said that he grew up watching Liverpool and has always managed teams to play the style of football he saw when he was a young boy and wants to bring that style of football back to liverpool. He will have clark as his assistant who they both worked together under Jose at Chelsea which was was a success.
I dont think he will have a massive pull with international players like some bigger managers can but if he can get the best out of the current crop their success will bring in players.

Not my first choice but I think he could do well if he can get the players behind him.

  3. If he does the business by getting us challenging for a top four spot and gets us playing in a stylish manner then the top players will join regardless of is existing image / reputation <ok>

But for now, of course, you are right, he won't attract the top names. However, the position of Liverpool Football Club right now would have prevented him attracted said names anyway. In partnership, we need to prove we are ambitious and on the up before the top players start to consider us again.

will he have clarke? Who knows?

as to attracting players? did having rafa in 2005 attract morientes? big flop there.... he got alonso though knowing who to go for. In the end crouch, pennent etc didn't join for rafa.

lets face it guys if we pay big wages players will come. the whole point is not prejudging anything. I want to see what he does and what the next announcement will be.

I am not beleiving the press about Dof when the only thing we do know is what ayre said so I await that next announcement.

TBH we're not going to be able to sign the 'BIG' names (such as Hazard, Augero etc) for some time yet. The lack of CL football is perhaps the biggest sticking point for these players.
What we need is relative young unkowns that can be signed for minimal fees and shaped into the style and philosphy of the club. Newcastle are the best example of this idea. A club that has been wise with the money (ok they had luck with injuires) bought good players without huge egos and built a team and been able to really push for a CL spot.

A 'smaller' name manager might not attract the 'big' names but he might be clever with the money, sign quality players on the cheap and avoid the blunders of last summer.
