Quite an interesting read as it goes.

All the 'blame the groundsman' or 'blame the rugby' idiots have well and truly been silenced with a very concise, honest and scientifically sound reason for the state of the pitch last season!

That's a fairly impressive explanation for the most part, but what is he on about in those last two paragraphs? How can it be 'unsubstantiated' for people to point out we were playing on a pitch with hardly any grass? Does that need any proof other than just looking at it?

Not sure about that, he's given a few reasons. One of them is too many fixtures at one time and that is obviously related to having two teams playing on it rather than one (also the pitch branding thing was RL) and whilst it isn't explicitly stated, it seems to imply that the rugby season meant we didn't have time to relay the pitch as early as we wanted to last summer. So it is still at least partly due to having the rugby on there as well.

Really interesting article here regarding the pitch at the KC:

    http://www.hullcityafc.net/page/NewsDetail/0,,10338~2793652,00.html

I kinda knew it wasn't just a case of lobbing some grass seeds down, watering it, mowing it and adding some lawn repair stuff occaisionally but the depth the groundsmen go to, and the obvious pride they take in their job is a real eye opener.

I know someone, OLM I think, mentioned the head guy is well thought of but my admiration for what they do and how they do it just went up massively.

True but that's been a constant for the 10 years we've played there. I think the point he's making is the timing of certain weather conditions and the outbreak of fungi/parasites interferred with what is normally a very carefully balanced but manageable operation.

Good groundsmen never blame their parasites as the saying goes.

I blame those devils the Allams buying cheap turf in an attempt to cut costs.

You're joking but I bet they've looked into it at the very least.

We just don't realise how much work goes into looking after a football pitch do we? It's all complicated stuff!
