Barry was really inconstant this season for City, at some games he done good but at some games he looked completely ****, now after Carrick game back from injury around december time, when did he last have an horrible game?

Barry had 1 or 2 average games, but who doesn't? Never said Carrick did have a horrible game

Couldn't care less about Ozil. Barry has had a great season, if you can't see that then you need to watch without your red tinted glasses on

Never rated the lad. Thought Rafa was thick for trying to push Alonso out the door in order to get Barry. The guy is way overrated.

Why would England need a player who can dictate the games tempo and retain possession when they have players like Lampard and Gerrard in CM(neither players best position) who have been dominating International competitions for over a decade now with their kick and rush glory ball style.

Carrick has gone to the last 2 tournaments and not left the bench and only plays in qualifiers as back up.While his lack of grit/fight frustrates me, he is exceptional at reading the game and always makes the CB`s job so much easier with his intelligent positioning and interceptions. In short, he is tailor made for International Football and would be cherished in Spain, Germany or Italy.

oh my bad didn't notice that was sarcastic... Carrick is England's wasted talent also Adam Johnson is too, i would of picked adam johnson over Downing, johnson played less games and ofton game as a sub most of the time in the league and yet he done more then Downing i mean if player's like downing get in the starting line up in England why can't Carrick get in?

I think Downing will do a decent job. I respect Hodgson for doing it his own way and preferring players he thinks will be a better unit over individuals.

As bad a season as Downing has had, he has a better attitude than Johnson... Johnson would not be able to put in a defensive shift for 75 minutes versus Spain or Netherlands whereas Downing would do it without a fuss.

Johnson may be a bigger threat, but considering England are unable to dominate a game in the big tournaments we need people who don't mind putting in a shift.
For this reason Milner is a good choice too.

Carrick is a decent player and doesn't deserve the criticism he gets. He's not rubbish.

But you should leave it at that.

Trying to convince people he's a class player that England needs is equally wrong the other way.

He's not suited to England anyway. Passing it 5 yards sideways to someone else who will hoof it only delays the hoof and extra 3-4 seconds. And he's not great defensively against good sides who play through the middle.

He does a good job for United and would probably do a decent job in a side that keeps a lot of possession, But England? WTF is the point? He's not great in defence and does nothing in attack. We just don't need him.

That's a decent assessment imo. If he played in a team that set itself up like Barca, with a flooded midfield and very narrow, he'd get a lot more plaudits. Equally, if Xavi played for England in a two man hoofball central midfield, rather than Barca's four man effort, he'd probably struggle to reach his current level.
