Not because he's going. We all knew he would leave eventually. I'm disappointed because he's been willing to sell himself so cheaply.

First of all, he was Villa's THIRD choice. Behind a guy who has only managed in Norway and someone whose main claim to fame is surviving on the last day of the season. I would have thought that pride alone would have made him tell them to go screw themselves. And also made him suspicious about what these American owners know about football and how they will treat him once he is there.

Second, I could have understood if he had gone to Liverpool, like Rodgers. That's a club with a serious chance of offering European football with some major players even now. How are Villa that much of a step up from us? What can he achieve with them? Seventh and Europa League in a couple of seasons? He could have achieved that with us if he had stuck around, and his reputation for doing so would have been massively increased. Yes, Villa are historically a bigger club than us, of course. But how much more do they offer now? I suppose the American owners will promise the earth during the interview (especially as they have no one left to turn to if Lambert says no), but in reality I think he'd have almost as much in the way of resources with us as with them.

Third, it seems like the resignation was an act of pique. How strange for someone as cool and unemotional as Lambert as a rule to decide his future on a moment of anger.

Fourth, I really thought Lambert was more logical than to just jump at the first opportunity that comes along. Hasn't he seen the long list of promising managers who end up failing and becoming those also-rans who are trotted out every time a lower-level Prem or higher-level Championship job becomes available because they gambled too early? He doesn't need to go running to Villa - he is better than that. I think he may be making a terrible mistake. Stick around and he could have aimed much higher.

A dreadful day for Norwich, and a dreadful ten days what with the Holt transfer request and so on. I just hope we don't end up with one of those also-rans.

And I suspect, a year or so on, it might be a dreadful day for Lambert, too.

Let's just wait until we get some confimation from a RELIABLE source.

I REALLY hope there's no truth in the rumour, as I don't for one minute imagine that PL would go anywhere as third choice!!!!

I am shocked that he's going for a sideways move like this, very strange that it's happened on the day as our loss with Brendan. Wish you success in finding the right one, looks like we will be fighting you for the same targets, something that I would never suspect in a month of Sundays at the end of the season.

A sideways move at best really. There are more deep seated problems at Villa than he faced with us.I supposehe will keep them up though.I think they want more.

Colchester thought Norwich was a sideways move but look where he took you! If he can repeat the same at Villa they will be at least FA Cup winners within the next 2 seasons

Cant see Villa beig able to trump up the £8-10 million in compensation, they did not have enough money to attract OGS for heavens sake, so lets move on

While it maybe true the only 'evidence' had been a sun article and some tweets. They have both been wrong in the past so I think we should wait for a reliable source before thinking he has left.

At least you'll have an interesting relegation battle to focus on this year and every year until you go back down

I will go with this. Until it appears as a done deal on the BBC, Sky or Norwich City website I will bury my head in the sand <laugh>

Can we all please stop making assumptions. If there is ANY truth in this the only people that would know exactly what took place are Lambert and McNally and lets face it neither would go straight to the Sun to tell them what happened. The only way they would have heard anything would have been at best second hand and would have no doubt subsequently added their sensationalist spin on things. There is no story otherwise!! I am not saying this isn't true as it appears to have legs but lets just hold fire on the judgments until we know the full facts. And as you all know the full facts are hard to come by in football. Until the club confirm otherwise lambert and holt are at Norwich!

I did not think Norwich could get any compo but according to the BBC website...The Scot signed a new deal at Norwich in May 2011, and a move to Villa would be likely to involve compensation.

The only article I have read is on the BBC and that only says Villa are interested and nothing else. It has only recently appeared so is not backdated a few weeks.

It might be straw clutching but until there is a cast iron official announcement I am firmly lumping this in the bollocks camp, not ruling it out but until it's official....

There's been far too much crap spouted about managers recently to just jump on this

first of all, i believe lambert has left because he needs a new challenge and felt he was going to go stale at city. villa will give him fresh vigor to go again and try something new which will excite him and he can get his teeth into. secondly, we will not get anywhere near the amount of compensation being bandied about. as he has a 1-year rolling deal we will receive roughly his yearly salary which is just below £1m. the fact he's walked means we may get slightly less than this at tribunal, if it goes that far. and thirdly, the 'holt following him to villa' thing is a tricky one. i suspect that this news means its actually more likely that holt will stay.

If he resigned we will get compensation as he was under contract. For his sake I hope he does not do what M. Hughes did when he left Fulham because he thought he would get a job and then did not.
