Interesting. Clearly wasn't Liverpools first choice and I'm my sure how the fans will feel about this. Makes me glad that the media hasn't hyped us up as much as Swansea.
I'm really pleased Paul Lambert hasn't committed himself to us in the way that BR did to Swansea! In all seriousness I am very surprised by this! This could destroy a promising career!
I'll bet he's petrified all the way to the bank. Its a no brainer for him. Even if he fails at Liverpool he would get another job with a club in a lower division and re-enhance (is that a word Wonky?) his reputation. But he would be financially secure for the rest of his life. If he succeeds, and I believe he well might, he will become a hero and further enhance his CV. And be able to negotiate an imroved contract. And he gets the chance to spend big which I guess most managers would love to have a shot at. If money was no object to Paul Lambert I'm sure he would love it.
Yeah, I'm worried about that for Rodgers. But as I say this is why a lack of media attention for Norwich is good.
Well thats another club Lambert won't be going to. I like Rodgers and he may do a decent job however I'm not convinced he is all that. He inherited a very decent team who played good football created by Martinez and then Sousa. He did manage to carry it on and bring in some good players though. If he is going to succeed at Liverpool he will have to be given time and if as has been said they want top 4 that may not happen.
It's only the use of less and fewer that I have an irrational hatred of! You can make as many grammatical mistakes as you as far as I'm concerned!
Its times like this you are pleased Lambert is a miserable bastard to the press! Gotta love him for it
a number of things spring to mind here. 1) i don't and never have believed the hype around rodgers. i believe him to be a good coach but not an outstanding one and i doubt he ever will be. i personally feel martinez and lambert are both better and will be much better than he will in the future. i expect him to be found out at anfield and be out of a job within 12 months. 2) i wonder if swansea fans will be bitterly, bitterly disappointed (should he be appointed) with him after the way he dismissed their approach before. if lambert leaves, none of us can say a bad word about the guy because he has never led us to believe that he is either staying or going - just keeping his options open. if a big job comes up and he wants it then we can't complain. 3) gus poyet must be a shoe-in for the swans job 4) assuming we hang onto lambert and martinez and rodgers leave their respective positions, it will seriously weaken two of our rivals - this has to be viewed as a good thing. 5) where does this leave gylfi sigurdsson? don't know if anyone has been paying attention to the widespread reports in the midlands but they initiated that villa have finally complied their final shortlist of three. this seems odd, seeing as we know they tried to get solskjaer a week ago! this means anyone now approached is not first choice - that may be an issue. martinez and lambert are two of the three and although the third hasn't been mentioned, i believe it to be di matteo. they also seem to be claiming that an approach for lambert was accepted this afternoon. can't see that being true to be honest - we'd have known about it form the club by now - but just thought i'd mention it
Did they say an approach was accepted or they have made contact with Lamberts representatives? Very different things
Seems unlikely at this point although I'm sure they have made contact with his representatives, lost in translation maybe.
my source says they approached the club - i don't believe this to be true. however, bbc are reporting they've met with his 'representatives', which as we know from the colchester debacle, is not allowed as its not an official approach
I've heard that there is going to be a director of football at Liverpool as well and it's Van Gaal working with Rodgers, maybe this combination will work and is why Rodgers has changed his mind? Seems a bit weird that 2 weeks ago he didn't even want to talk to them and signed a 3 year extension with Swansea and now he is the new manager of Liverpool? I wonder if he agreed to do that so that Swansea would get £5m in compo? Also heard that Martinez would not work under a sporting director and that is why the deal fell through and they have gone with Rodgers.
