Afternoon all! Hmm, well, the game of squash went out the window because the weather was too lovely so we sat in a pub garden instead. Not exactly going to help the fitness, sooo, i'm off for a walk in a bit, just a little one though, the big one is on Friday, aiming for 17+ miles this week. Just thought i'd pop in for a quick hello before i go...anything to stall the process! lol View attachment 1863

Found a book lying around the house this morning called 'Be Your Own Lawn Expert' by Dr D G Hessayan (do you need a doctorate to advise people about their lawns?). When new, it cost 20p.

So, leafing through it after sitting for a couple of hours in the garden I got to the bit about things to do in April and it suggested raking the lawn was vital for its future health. How hard could that be? I fetched a rake from the garage and began scraping away. It felt quite gratifying to begin with...plenty of moss emerging, brushed into heaps and placed in the council's green bag. Twenty minutes in, sweating, back feeling it a little, sitting down for a cold beer I surveyed the extent of my new garden and decided I had completed about 2% of the whole.

Now I don't know this Dr Hessayon who, if he's still in the land of the living, may be a thoroughly decent chap, but I'd bet a great deal on one thing...he never raked his own lawn!

Theo - buy a scarifyer - you can fit them to a lot of lawnmowers and it takes the pain out of it :)

Just recovering after a hard day out in the sun. A light and fruity thumbnail.jpg seemed to be a good choice for replacing fluids.

Just been reading some comments from people who needed to tighten their belts. It seems that £85 per month will not be going to Sky in several cases. Some had got rid of it altogether.

One person asked a good question. If it comes down to watching football on TV or spending the money on watching your team, which would you choose?

No choice as far as I am concerned - I always preferred to go to a live game with atmosphere rather than watch on telly - I go and watch Carmarthen locally - with a couple of hundred other fans just to "be there" but even when my reserve side Spurs or England are on telly I often can't be bothered to watch them - Watford I am afriad I do watch if I can on telly - but that is partly as I now have withdrawal symptoms

Might look into a scarifier, Leo....can it scare off cats and starlings as well?

As for live football v TV...it's as easy a choice as between fillet steak and three-year-old horsemeat.

Yes - horsemeat is hard to beat if you're French
