Because our fanbase and catchment area, among the biggest in the country, suggest that we can easily get 40,000+ at Elland Road if the fans are treated right.

Ken Bates can't live forever - he's the only thing holding back the club's success and a future of healthy attendances.

    Not rocket science, is it?

For me we need to get back to basics..

We do not need a 60,000 seat stadium approx 48,000 will be enough. Just look at Juventus they have downsized to increase demand and prices, whilst delivering a far more imposing atmosphere.

We need to maximise our existing stadium to get the best return and value for all, we only need to make minor additions to have a truly unique stadium, with plenty of intimidation for rival players and fans alike.

    EAST STAND:

Firstly the East Stand should also be renamed in honour of Jack Charlton, this would only increase our status especially in America & Ireland.

Then the players tunnel should be moved to the upper middle of the East Stand, with the players made to walk down through the crowd to the pitch side (Note: It could not be installed lower due to the old Lowfields Road hill/stand forming the bottom of the current stand.

We should add in more "top end" comfortable seats in the upper middle of the East Stand lower, to allow us to sell these seats at a slightly increased premium as they currently do not sell. The bottom section of the centre sections should include the new disabled access points to provide unparalleled views.

    WEST STAND:

We should not mirror the East Stand, I would personally only add a small top tier to the West Stand aimed again at the "top end" price categories, we should add more corporate boxes underneath where the current rear section of the John Charles is located.

We should remove the existing players tunnel and replace with seats.

Mainly, I hate the uniform bowls that most stadiums are becoming, so with this is mind we should demolish the current away section of the West Stand and replace with a new 5/6 storey Conference Centre OR Casino in the South West corner. This would remove the eyesore and keep Elland Road unique.

    SOUTH STAND:

Remove the Corporate Boxes and give the away fans the half of the South Stand next to the wall that forms the conference centre, restrict their experience and help keep them quiet.

    NORTH STAND (The Important Bit):

With the extra new and expensive seats in the East & West, we can concentrate on making the Kop loud & frightening again. I would add in another 5,000 to 7,000 seats on the same level at least.

Land is no real issue, so it should be made larger that the Holt End at Villa Park, but mainly it should be priced for your average fan so it will always sell out.

As the Kop end is next to the motorway we should concentrate on making it look outstanding, I would install two giant spiral ramps to hide the old corners, whilst allowing the extra 7,000 fans to leave the stand easily.

It could look a little like this:

Old peacock, your idea does sound good but I think 'my perfect elland road' would have a bigger capacity. Your idea would look very pleasing to the eye though so that sort of root would be nice

Best Elland Road, is the one that is knocked down and a new 45,000 stadium built near the city centre.

Don't like new stadiums myself, but have to say Elland Road is tired and well past it. Get it to buggery and start a new life at a new stadium where we can kill the memory of the last 9 years.

And all the great memories of before that.

And it doesn't take a lot of imagination to renovate an old stadium. It's still useable at the minute, not at all past it, and if you look at posts like mine and Old Peacock's above, you'd see how it could be brought into the modern age while still keeping its atmosphere.

There's no need for a plasticky newbuild.

Your ideal Elland Road had too much focus on the crap that's got us into a financial mess.

    Marko the Moron....

I like it has a ring to it <whistle>

    Define: Moron

    1. Informal . a person who is notably stupid or lacking in good judgment.
    2. Psychology . (no longer in technical use; considered offensive) a person of borderline intelligence in a former and discarded classification of mental ******ation, having an intelligence quotient of 50 to 69.
    3. Person, a boring little pessimist that has no sense of humour. Namely a WUM named Marko.
