Liverpool and Martinez are playing a game of brinkmanship - Liverpool have their ideal structure (DoF and coach), whereas Martinez favours himself as being in charge. They have parted to think about it. Then mysteriously the papers are full of links with Rodgers - and Martinez is suddenly under pressure to fall in line. Take the job as they offer it or go away.

Nothing has come out about meetings or permission because what they are actually trying to do is to get Martinez to play ball.

    Just my theory.

Funny thing speculation is'nt it,We love it when players are linked with us and bloody hate it with all this talk about Brendan going to Liverpool,Personally i would stand by the club statement that was made yesterday and until something actually happens then i,m not going to worry about it.

I'm not aiming for the high ground. I'm just pointing out that your comment was childish.

I'm not worried either and I don't think anyone else should be. I'm just speculating, which is different. In any case, not many want to contribute their idea of next manager so we''ll leave it at that. I'm sure someone will be quick enough to start a similar thread when Brendan leaves.

That's a pretty good theory and could be true. But I think it will backfire and Martinez won't take the job. If the job is on offer and they are saying Brendan is the guy they really want then that is an insult. But who knows how these things work. Timing fits in perfectly though.

Yes that just confirms things for me, I am not really going to take your comments seriously from now on, yes he may leave at some point, but this for me just says that you are almost wishing he does leave now just so you can say told you so <doh>

still touch and go at the moment with Brendan cutting short his holiday to have talks with jinks...All that shows is that he is interested in what liverpool has to say.....will he or wont he is the question...<ok>

You couldn't be further from the truth. I want him to stay. But at the same time I'm not worried that he will leave because I know we'll get a great replacement. Managers come and go. That's football. But we all know he's going to leave at some point, so I don't see the point in pretending he's not going to. People have been speculating on Fergies replacement for at least a decade, but that doesn't mean they want him to leave. I think you (and others) put your own spin on my comments instead of taking them at face value. There is nothing to read between the lines, so no need to try to figure out what I mean. What I say is what I mean.

Some of you are like those women that you say something straightforward to and then they make up some completely different story of what they think you mean. LOL.

I would actually wet myself if none of the 'shortlist' accept the job. What an absolute shambles

Legitimate thread for me. There's no question that there is a good chance that Brendan will leave. If not, why hasn't he issued a statement saying that he is committed to us? It's an easy enough thing to do via Huw and he must be fully aware of the speculation which is causing concern to the fans of the club. At the moment this reeks of the "Martinez silence" episode. I hope he will stay but.....

SHOULD he go, there are other factors to consider. What about his transfer targets eg dos Santos? Will this effect Siggy's desire to sign? Would Caulker still like to return on loan? Will Sinclair sign a new contract etc? Rodgers should know that all these things will worry the supporters and if he doesn't, he damned well should. Don't like this silence because it is telling me that he is seriously considering his options.

As for a replacement, if it comes to that, I think that RDM, if available, will be looking at bigger fish to fry given his CL success and we couldn't afford him. Gus Poyet might be a good option as he would favour the continental style of football that we like to play. Lee Clarke has certain credentials but lacks the in depth experience we would be seeking - and he might have problems earning the respect of the dressing room because of that.

Let's just hope that all this is conjecture and that Buck stays with us. To be honest, I believe that he owes us one more season at least.

The selection process at Liverpool is certainly a shambles. I think everyone can agree on that.

with Brendan now favorite and the fact he has broken off his holiday to have crucial talks with jinks then you can read into that anyway you like.
If Brendan wants to talk to liverpool then nothing can stop him as its in his contract that if a big club comes calling then he can listen at what they have to say, The signs are looking in favour of brendan to be liverpool's next boss but you cant put any money on it as it all depends on what is on offer,
now its no good speculating on what he will do but the question was if he does take the liverpool job then who would we want as the next manager........Its a difficult question to be honest as the manager has to be or as close to being able to manage our style of football and there are not to many good managers out there.
personally if the situation was to arise then i would promote inside the club like someone like Garry monk, He has close ties with the management and knows exactly how we train and play. If he carries on in the same spirit and mold as brendan then i cant see any problem in continuing to progress.....Anyway nothing has been decided yet so while we are at that state then brendan is still the manager...

Odds with Paddy Power say Buck 4/7; Martinez 15/8 and Van Gaal 12/1.

Out of interest Rodgers is 5/2 joint favourite with David Moyes to be the next SPURS boss according to Paddy Power. What is going on? Seems that even if BR doesn't go to Liverpool we might have another battle on our hands anyway. I suppose that success breeds this sort of speculation so we will just have to learn to live with it.

He's hot property now and will be one of the leading contenders whenever a big club have a vacancy. That's because we all know that he's good enough. I just hope he stays with us for a few years longer before leaving.

What evidence is there of "cutting short" his US trip? He went to watch Wales not for a holiday. Typical journo crap. The Club are saying today's meeting was scheduled anyway.

Of course he could be tempted away but there's elements of the story that sound fabricated. Why would he turn them down (not even agreeing to speak to them) then agree to go?

If he does go nobody could blame him even though I think he'd be making a mistake. A massive club comes calling after just one year as a Prem manager. I could understand his head being turned. That said, ask yourself this Brendan: If you're offered the job it's because Bobby didn't want it. Why?
