Was Ruddy the one due to get married soon? If so, I reckon it was his missus who broke his finger as she didn't relish having her honeymoon in Ukraine.

(I have no evidence to back that up though)

So our 3rd choice goalkeeper is now going to be a Championship club's 3rd choice keeper (Butland being behind Foster or Myhill depending on timing, and Murphy)

Considering Foster and Myhill were loan swapped, I don't think he counts as third choice.
    Just to be pedantic <ok>

I think it was due to injuries. He was 4th or 5th choice CB but everyone ended up getting injured. I think Ferdinand, King and Carragher were all ahead of him but all got injured.

It's weird that Butland is going to the Euros having been playing in League 1 (or was it League 2 in fact?) all season. It really is bizarre that we have such a lack of cover in goal after Hart. I can't believe Foster and Robinson still don't see this as their opportunity. Hart will probably be our first choice keeper for the next 10 years so so if they ever want to play for England they should be taking the chance available now while there is such a lack of cover.

I think goalkeeper is probably about the only position that you can get away with something like that, saying that if Hart got injured then it's hard to imagine Green spooning one into his net again so maybe it's not bad as it seems. The guys you mention who have retired themselves have made a huge mistake, you only have one life and one career and not to try and make the most of it is either arrogant or stupid.

I agree with your general point but how on Earth is it arrogant?

The finger he broke is his wedding finger...so unlikely to be her! Maybe his mistress?? (I also have no evidence to back that up!)

If you think you're that good you should be in the international team and not sat on the bench and fighting to prove yourself is a bit arrogant in my book. How many players get the chance to play for their country? Fair enough if they have fitness concerns but somebody like Robinson has years left as a pro, if he'd decided to fight for his chance then surely he would be better placed than Green or the unknown kid if Hart got injured.

    Barry's out now too.

That's Barry, Smalling, Walker, Wilshire, Rodwell and Ruddy all on the injured list.

When I saw you had posted on this thread I figured it would be somebody ruled out through injury, I'm not too bothered that it's Barry though <laugh>

You should be, it will probably be Jordan Henderson who replaces him.

It sounds as though others were offered the chance to be on the standby list and refused, so I'd rather have Henderson than anyone too cool to be on the standby list to represent their country.

Hodgson is reported to have said that if Barry was out he might not replace him like for like, and could draft in Jagielka (from memory) instead.

That said, it will probably be Henderson.

Edit - Jagielka is the one to replace Barry

I'd rather have Jagielka than Henderson, though I wouldn't really have said that was like for like.

Sorry, I meant that the report was that Henderson would be a like for like replacement, being a midfielder for a midfielder, but Hodgson indicated that he may not make a like for like replacement and call up Jagielka instead.

    Am I making this worse??

Anyway, I'd rather have Jagielka in the squad than Henderson

Am in a minority here but happy if Henderson gets a chance, i've seen him perform very well for England u-21's, ****e season with Liverpool admittedly but he's a young lad and can improve, unlike Stewart Downing who shouldn't have been picked.. If Hodgson gets his head right there is a footballer in there, could just be a failing of King Kenny not getting the best out of him.

Just to be pedantic, I said Foster or Myhill depending on timing. <ok>

Whilst they're loan swapped: Myhill, Murphy, Butland
Once the loans officially end: Foster, Murphy, Butland

Is it true Stockdale is now on the reserve list as well because of Butland's call up? We're 1 injury away from the keepers sat on the bench being Fulham's sub keeper, and Birmingham's 3rd choice?
