and we need a result to go up, how much moaning about tickets do you think there will be? The support has been good this last month or two at St Mary's, but I'm still surprised we are not getting nearer to 25,000 at the moment after 6 home wins in a row. I just hope all the fans who have been to most games this season are able to get tickets for the Hartlepool & Walsall games and arnt' gazumped by the "JPT Wembley/Man Utd" crowd.
Be sorted before then I hope. Can't make Walsall game..should be party time. For a Tuesday night the gate was good last night bearing in mind the poor crowd Charlton brought. Our support has remained fairly constant recently for Saturday games. If you discount the oppositions effect we have about 20,000 a match. If you bear in mind people like me who work Saturdays can only get to say 6 games, I would have thought a good guestimate of fans who try to attend is 25,000+. I can't select the games I attend, but some pick games based on how much spare money they have so would guess many will pick the Walsall game. However, I'm sure unless we're going up as Champions (unlikely) there will still be spare seats for all who want to go. I will be at the next home match (hurrah for days off), but wish I could make the end of season bash. It's going to be an exciting few weeks from now. COYR
I think there is sense in what you say Fran........Bearing in mind we are still in the 1st Division (old 3rd) our fan base is pretty good at an average of 21000 +/-. also take into account the economic climate and the actual cost of tickets I think we are doing well in that department. If The final game is the make or break game of the season so be it. I think we will do well maybe 28000 for that if that is the case, so should have plenty of room. Hopefully our fate will already be known and our promotion guaranteed before then. Incidentally the Man U game only brought 28000....so cannot see that lowly Walsall being a bigger draw for crowds, even with the importance of the game!
CBK - Disagree The fact we not getting 25,000 ....people are feeling the squeeze in the wallets and purses more now than ever. But those who are fortunate to go are doing a great job getting behind the team recently. All credit to you all I honestly think we shouldn't repeat the 'I'm better Saint's Fan than you' debate - POINTLESS... If you support Saints, whether you been 1 , 5 , 10 , 30 games this season or over the decades but could not have watch Saints this season for some unfortunate reasons ...get a tickets if you can and lets fill St Marys in the closing stages of a exciting end to the season! Lets make the last few Home Games ...BOTH SELLOUT AND NOISY!
Hear Hear Kingsland. I cherry pick matches. On top of the tickey price it costs me ã50 in petrol and parking plus food and a programme. The round trip takes 4-6 hours depending on traffic. I choose to be selective about who I see. Some opposition is more attractive than others. I don't think I am less of a fan than a season ticket holder and have certainly been a fan longer than a lot of season ticket holders as I started going to the Dell in the early to mid seventies. We are all fans. Some attend, others don't or can't. COYS
I won't be at the Walsall game and I haven't been to a game all season. I'm at uni in Plymouth and can't afford to go to games even when I'm home. I will try to be at Plymouth vs Saints as it's a lot cheaper than St Marys and be able to say I have been to a game this season.
Not sure that CBK was trying to get into a "my support is better than yours debate" The way I see it I have to admit that under normal circumstances I would have expected the crowds to flock to St Mary's perhaps not quite as much as CBK suggests. I would have thought maybe another 1000 or so average. However we do have to take into account the economic climate and also the new season ticket policy which probably hit around 800/1000. Although I can understand why the policy was changed. Perhaps NC can farm that side of things out so someone else takes the hit on bad payers? As I said though I am not sure that CBK was using this as an argument
Correct, never ever do the "I'm a better fan than you" nonsense. I also appreciate there are many fans who live away from Soton who have to pick and choose and others with various committments etc etc. However, we all know, there are plenty of local fans, with money and no real excuses who only turn up when the going is good. Appreciate it's always been like that, but when we can get 50,000 to Wembley a year ago, I find it hard to believe taking away 22,000 off that number we can't get another 5,000 more regular attendees. Nice situation to be in anyway I guess. I see Reading only got 14,000 last night, which puts things into perspective.
Reading never have a good support. I remember going to the Madjeski when they were top of the Champ. Think we lost 2-0 and the most chanted chant from us was "Where were you when you were ****?"
Couldn't disagree more! The Walsall tickets are on sale now and unless we can only achieve play-off at best on this game, it will be a sell out IMO. This has been the most exciting league season for Saints for some time (bar JPT) and I believe there will be plenty of Saints fans wanting to say thanks. You've been warned get your tickets now!!!
I am begging that we go up this year, I can't take another year of league 1!! pathetic pub teams with crap grounds, crap plastic fans, and hoof ball! I mean... CARLISLE AWAY?!?! its disgraceful that a club of our support are playing in the same league as Carlisle, and whats worse is that these sad excuses for football teams think they are worth something, Oldham fans thinking that their team are actually worth anything... god I hate this league! so come on Saints, make Leyton Orient suffer, make them cry... rip their team to shreds and show them for what they are, just another pub team that think they can compete with SOUTHAMPTON. COYR!!! ps, can we hope to relegate Plymouth on the way? those lot have been a thorn in our side for years!
after all the crap we have gone through over the last few years and the money spent we need to go up, thats not being a WUM, and where Plymouth are concerned I remember the crap they gave us when we were fighting relegation and the crap they gave us at the start of the season... those things are not forgotten. We need to stop with the BS and finally get out of this division, we have a fanbase that has backed the team, the right management, and the best team... why oh why are we content with playing the likes of Bournemouth in a league game? they used to be our youth team feeder club, we used to laugh at them on a daily basis along with Brighton... its PAINFUL to see us fighting these guys. And as for charity... where the hell did that lead us? we gave money to Brighton and Bournemouth and now they are trying to stop OUR promotion push! its not wummery, its honesty,
A Bournemouth fan with a soft spot for us though...so don't be Too hard on him....lets face it they haven't that many fans as it is.
It still does not excuse your disrespect for other fans and their clubs - it's not what SFC is about. The fact is we are in this league because we were not good enough for the Championship and it's where we deserve to be. We have no God-given right to be higher! A word of advise: don't lower yourself to other fans levels if it leaves you bitter and twisted - it gives our club a bad name.
So god forbid if we don't go up, do I take it that we will lose your support as well? Remember we are in this league by merit not by default and as much as most do not like being in this league we have no god given right to be in another until we have earned that place! You obviously have a down on poor old Plymouth but things will happen naturally if they do not climb above the relegation zone. I can't go along with getting a team deliberately relegated....and that includes Pompey, but if that happens naturally then so be it. We need the points for different reasons and the truth is this is a dog eat dog environment......
