It is a pity that you have to have characters Like Ernie who think so narrowly, that all they can do is try and goad people with a differing point of view. This has been a first class debate in my view and a credit to all posters for adding their views. It is just sad that someone prefers trying to bully you than to convincing you of their point. It ain't going to happen, the Southampton board prefers them to stay away.
My view on it is, I can see the points from both sides. Yes he has served his sentence (only 4yrs but that's a different story) and he should be able to get on with life. But I also see it as why should he be able to start up were he left off, in the public eye. No doubt on thousands a week, while the family he destroyed struggle to live day to day. The thing that tips it for me is i look at it from the victims angle. Seeing a guy that in one stupid twatish moment rip my heart out so much in the public eye. Not to mention on alot of cash would just about kill me off tbh The ideal thing would be if McCormick gets a normal job or a job much less in the eye of the public.
Agree BD, but as said earlier in the thread by someone else. Is any job in the public eye as exposed as a footballer in front of unforgiving crowds? You only have to look at some of the passionate viewpoints expressed here to know that if he does play he will be in for some serious abuse. I just can't see him making a career in football
"McCormick, who had played for Plymouth Argyle, was sentenced to seven years and four months in 2008 for causing death by dangerous driving and being twice the drink-drive limit." Am I missing something here? He was senteced to over 7 years in 2008 and he's out early, so that doesnt mean he has served his full sentence. So why are most people saying he has served his full sentence? He should have a lot longer than that in my opinion. He a professional footballer, which makes the crime even worse than if it was a normal person. He's supposed to be a role model to young footballers and fans, not getting rat-arsed and ploughing into a car with kids in. Absolute disgrace
Some may have been saying that he has served his sentence. Most I think, were aware he was let out on licence. So were of the understanding that he was finishing his sentence back in the community. Unfortunately that is a completely different debate as to whether they were lenient with the sentence handed out. I think the main debate centres on whether he should or shouldn't be allowed to resume his career as a footballer. Also how this will make the parents of the kids killed feel knowing he is back and resuming his career.
Can someone please tell me why people on here have said "He's served his sentence" because you must be ****ing joking!!!! For one he should have got the longer sentence being asked for at his trial of 14 yrs, but our ****e legal system gives him 7 yrs of which he has served HALF so he has not served his alloted time. Instead he will be playing for a football club i previously had a soft spot for but not any longer earning large sums of money each week doing a job he loves. Swindon are partly to blame for this fiasco giving this scum bag a way back into football, he should be licking the **** from toilet bowels for a living after what he did !! He has showed no remorse at any point from the moment he wiped out the two children to the presant day, what can this **** head "give back to the community" as some on here have said ? Do your self and us a favour McCORMAC and jump in front of a ****ing train!
How sick is everyone. This man is a CHILD KILLER full stop. I am sure that the Yorhire Ripper was sorry for what he done and I am sure that he would have liked to rebuild his career. This man has served 2 out of a 7year sentence, he should have receieved life. The repuccusiions will haunt whoever made the decision at Swindon. YOU WILL REAP WHAT YOU SOW, believe me. Absouletly sickening
The main alteration that I would make is to how the law punishes such drivers. you can never tell. I would like to see such acts punished with a life time ban from any form of driving. They say lightning doesn't strike twice but
Agree with Joe. ^ This article is clearly taken from the Daily Mail, biased drivel caused in order to offend and wind people up. Of course it is a heinous and horrible crime, but imagine the guilt he must be feeling. He has served the sentence that he was given, and must now try and get on with his life. People make mistakes, sure drink driving is an awful one, and I would never do it and risk killing someone myself, but it is easy enough to do. I know plenty of people who have taken the risk. Obviously the parents will be emotional, but there is no other way this case could have panned out. That is the point of the justice system, that people are punished for their crimes accordingly. They shouldn't then be hounded for the rest of their lives for a drunken mistake. I agree that the punishment is soft, but that is not down to the player, thats down to the courts.
