It's a short run to T1 but I think the grid slots are especially close together here.

Seems to me those tunnels remained on both RB8's in this qualifying session. What is Mark doing so differently? the car is clearly fast enough now yet Seb just doesn't like it. At both times the tunnels were off, Seb beat Mark in qualifying at Bahrain and Spain and won 1 of them, yet its obvious the RBR team favour the tunnels for an advantage in something.

This must be the first Newey concept Seb has disliked the time he has been there. It's not because of the lack of an EBD, it's the tunnels doing something that he doesn't like.

Seb said they both took a different setup route. And to his bad they decided to change the (very good working) version after P3. They wanted to get even more performance and changed little things but went the wrong way.

To win in Monaco you need to be either in clear air or have a clever strategy. It's not the place for fighting through unless your extremely fortunate.

As a Seb fan to another, do you reckon this is around the time Seb is now being groomed to start leading the team fully when Mark leaves. It just seems bizarre Seb making a mistake like this compared with what he has done in the past. I'm not saying Mark has decided to screw Seb over but that he only intends to stay this year or next leaving Seb as "team leader" for development as the only option for Seb as a team mate will be somebody younger than himself.

Take Lewis for example, Alonso was always considered the man who found all the data at McLaren and Lewis would of used that data and adapt it to himself. Alonso leaves and Lewis is given no real "elder" in the team for guidance, he suffers with that as it's obvious his "07 form" never truly comes back until 2010 now Jenson is there to give his experience for Lewis to learn from somebody. I reckon Lewis suffered having a team mate like Heikki, he didn't repeat his last years performance and for all we know a driver like Webber, Alonso or Jenson could of made the 09 car work better than him.

Someday Seb will have to become the team leader to guide the car development himself and I would gather this will come with age after this year or next, and Seb will just about hit 27.

If after 2 WDC's Seb still doesn;t know how to set up a car, it doesn;t bode well for the future of RBR! What makes you think Seb is not teh team leader anyway? I'd say he's no.1 there based on what he did in 2010 & 2011!

I imagine the reality is they just too a wrong turn on the setup as happens from time to time and the lack of EBD exaggerates this as they can;t rely on the downforce that used to create to compensate for any major setup errors.

Just watched qualifying just now! (it was really hard not to find out the results before now)

    - I watched P3 and saw maldos attack on Perez and it seems to me the car was not fully fixed when going out to Q1. Either Sauber didnt see the problem or the problem developed during track time. Either way it was a very unsafe situation. I hope Sauber didnt decide to take a risk on it...

    - Delighted Schumacher got the top time, Funny enough I could see it happening from Q1 but didnt really know who would get pole when it got to Q3. I see EMSC is loving it and I guess One thing that scumacher has done well this year is qualify well. Lets see if he can finally translate to the race today.

    - In P3 yesterday I really enjoyed listening to Alain Prosts views. That guy still has his head screwed on about the goings on in F1. He seemed very full of praise for Button, Vettel and obviously Grosjean. His view of the Pirelli tyre being in charge of you rather of you being in charge of them seems very interesting

...Also Raikkonen did well to get in Q3, I didnt think he was going to make it. It did seem he was getting more and more comfortable each lap so still a threat for today

Well, i think what happened here has nothing to do with a "greater" matter. It just shows that its harder in such a narrow field to always go the right way. Seb was always very good at car setup and feedback stuff. He is still learning though and will always do, i guess. This time it didn't work out, next time he can be the hero again. I am also very sure that Seb would have been on pole with the P3 setup, but hey, **** happens.

If the drivers finish in the same position they qualify here's how the top part of the standings will look:
    1. Webber - 73
    2. Alonso - 71
    3. Hamilton - 68
    4. Vettel - 63
    5. Rosberg - 59
    6. Raikkonen - 53
    7. Grosjean - 47
    8. Button - 45
This just about sums up the craziness of the championship this season. If it ends like this, out of a possible 150 points, no-one will even have half that amount.

Is that right? I thought Lewis was 3 points behind Alonso as it is... Therefore him finishing 3rd and Alonso 6th does not equal Alonso second surely?

Hamilton is (53) currently eight points behind Alonso (61). Alonso would actually finish 5th giving him another 10 points.

Apparently the FIA are investigating a hole in the RB8's floor after Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes protested. <yikes>

I presume on the basis it does not conform with the 'flat bottom' floor required in F1? Are they suggesting the holes contravene this?
