SO Will Liverpool or Chelsea boot their racists out..........................................I dont think so, due to the money they have invested. For all the posturing of the PFA. they are toothless and bolloxed, all talk and no trousers, and nothing to back it up with. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gordon Taylor, the Professional Footballers' Association chief executive, is sending a 'powerful message' over racism. Photograph: Tom Jenkins for the Guardian Racist abuse will become a sackable offence for professional footballers next season, as part of significant changes being made to every Premier League and Football League player's contract. Gordon Taylor, the chief executive of the Professional Footballers' Association, is behind the proposal that he hopes will send out a powerful message on the back of a season when racism on the pitch made an unwelcome return to English football. Taylor told the Guardian that he believes the change in the standard players' contract will highlight how seriously the PFA views racism, and remove any ambiguity about the possible consequences for anyone found guilty of the offence. Racist abuse will now be deemed as gross misconduct and, although the decision of whether to terminate a contract will ultimately rest with the player's employers, Taylor pointed out that any club failing to act "could be held responsible for condoning [racism]". The PFA will present the proposal to the Professional Football Negotiating and Consultative Committee, which includes the Premier League and the Football League, and Taylor is confident that it will be approved. "We're just about to bring it to the PFNCC, the body by which we bring the issues to the Premier League and Football League, and I don't see a problem with that being introduced," he said. "It just highlights the point in the standard players' contract. It would say that racist abuse, if found guilty, will be classed as gross misconduct and a reason to terminate a contract. I feel it's important to highlight it, bearing in mind what has happened, and not mess about with it and not afford for anybody to be ambiguous about what the consequences are. "I'm not saying it's ambiguous [now]. But just to really put it in there means there is no misunderstanding on how serious we take it. If any player is found guilty of racist abuse, the club and the player need to be aware that could be a solid reason for terminating the contract." Racist abuse on the pitch has become an emotive issue on the back of two high-profile incidents last season. Liverpool's Luis Suárez was given an eight-match ban for racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra at Anfield in October while the Chelsea captain, John Terry, will appear at Westminster magistrates' court on 9 July after he was charged with a "racially aggravated public order offence" following an altercation with Queens Park Rangers' Anton Ferdinand at Loftus Road, also in October. Terry denies the charge. Although the PFA has worked hard to campaign against racism in football, Taylor acknowledges that this season has, in some respects, been a "reality check". He remains concerned that black players will "think twice" about lodging an official complaint because of "such intimidation with social networks" and because "there is so much abuse flying about", and for that reason feels it is vital the "football world" supports those who come forward. Taylor also revealed that he has been on the receiving end of "terrible abuse" for speaking out against racism. As well as the change to players' contracts that will carry the threat of more severe punishments, Taylor accepts that there is a need to "re-address the education process, rather than just think about sanctions". He explained that the PFA, working in tandem with the League Managers Association, are planning to bring in a new education programme that would lead to managers, all British and overseas players, and even directors and owners receiving training and advice in relation to racism and discrimination in football. "Rather than just concentrate on the young apprentices as part of their curriculum, we want to introduce it to all senior players, and also that when players come in from abroad, to try and have an educational process for them and the owners of the club and management," said Taylor. "It will be part of the duty of [player liaison officers] introducing any player coming in from abroad to go through a list of things, particularly in the player's contract, where you see about racist abuse, code of conduct and what is expected in this country on racism and equality issues."
No one should lose their job over an FA tribunal, not after you read the FULL 115 pages of contradictory, twisted, self-serving cack (against which there is NO appeal) in the Suarez case, and not just the summary at the end that hungover hacks skim-read on New Year's day. If found guilty in a PROPER court, then fair enough. But for starters, you'd have to change the evidence requirements from balance of probabilities to beyond reasonable doubt; and you couldn't have the prime accuser/witness changing their story three times about what they were called, how many times and when it happened, and then being secretly coached by the prosecution to change their story based on the testimony of the accused. In short, the FA are not a competent body to acheive the standards of evidence requirements that would cut muster in a REAL court such as an employment tribunal of CAS.
Oh, and by the way, by deliberately translating 'Your sister's pussy' (a colloquial for "Go f00k your sister") into Spanish, was Evra (who also used the phrase "Sudaca, which is on par with us calling someone a Gypo) also not gulity of racist abouse? Or is racism just about skin colour? The FA's own rules on racist say a reference to nationality is also considered racist. Maybe Martin Luther Ferguson, St Evra of Your Sister's Pussy and Rio X should consider that. Or maybe all players in future should do as Slurguson advised Schmeical after he was accused of racially abusing Ian Wright - and deny everything. And do you REALLY think the FA had one iota of evidence against Suarez had he taken the Scvhmeical/Ferguson defence?
Nice one Donga, as you have pointed out the above frailties, the question is how can the PFA ,,,,,,DO ANYTHING, except posture and show they are PC asslickers. But anything that makes them look squeeky clean, and the whole of football , fans,, etc know its a complete load of bollocks, and an outright lie.
Suarez and Terry have summoned a dark cloud over the Premier League. If we are to continue to be successful in marketing this game as a global commodity we need the support and in turn the respect of far east and African nations. It's about long-term finances yes, but it is also about attempting to kick racism out of football. We've been flying this flag for far too long and if firmer action is not taken, especially after this season, we are merely condoning it. This is not PC clap-trap, this is about taking a firmer stand and being clear on the issue.
Agreed, but the PFA have no teeth. they dont pay the wages, the clubs do. The pfa are going through the motions is all. but as I said no teeth. what can they do to a footballer who abuses????? NOWT.
No club wishes to be associated with condoning racism, this is their trump card. I would be mortified if Martin O'Neil attempted to defend a player of Sunderland following an overtly racist outburst.
Watching Terry's reactions after the final whistle in Frankfurt hugging and kissing the black players. I wouldn't say he was racist. We all say things in the heat of the moment and we are all 'tribal' it's in our nature. Racism in my book only exists when it is said in order to stir hatred or to cause physical harm to the other person. I used to share a house with a black guy and the banter between the two of us would have made Bernard Manning blush... i was affectionalty known as 'little dick' and 'pinky' and he was know as 'tarmac' (he had a scottish friend so we called them mac and tarmac.' It's about time the country started pushing respect that's were most of the problem lies not racism! respect your elders for one!
Define what racism is, for starters. Nothing that Evra did (as stated in the transcripts themselves) is considered racist by the FA; they even dismiss it, for the sake of the credibility of his evidence, as being 'an exclaimation'. You might have thought a Frenchman would have exclaimed 'Jut alors!', 'mon Dieu!' or 'Merde!', but no, the FA thinks an excitable Frenchman playing football in England would specifically translate an insult into pidgin Spanish and call the Latin American he is screaming at a "Sudaca". But as he he didn't specifically mention the colour of Suarez's skin, that's okay... But, the FA's, the PFA's, your own compamy's policy, the law of the land does NOT confine the definition of racism to just the colour of someone's skin. And you need to consider that, Shameless. For the Suarez case has opened a can of worms and, as was stated in the aftermath, a 'template' for any mendacious footballer and his manager to conspire to get any opponent they wish banned (or now worse, if the PFA have their way) WITHOUT ANY STANDARD OF EVIDENCE OTHER THAN THE WORD OF THE ACCUSER. Is it not racist to think that all black people are far to nice and innocent to take advantage of that? Or Scottish mangers, for that matter...
He is a piece of sh*t and I am deeply ashamed that he wears our shirt. He has done more damage in one season to our image than throughout our whole existence.
Love that, booed and abused all game then he lifts one finger at them and everyone acts outraged and disgusted.
Bit of a waste of time puuting that logical argument with facts in front of you, eh Shameful? Only expect a grunt from a pig, eh? Byw, what's your views on, say, Ian Wright and Peter Schmeical, and the advice Martin Luther Ferguson gave Schmeical over that fracas?
I think the PFA are right on this one. After all, the players have cameras on them all the time and people can read lips as Mr Terry found out to his cost. They will be caught and when they are they should be punished. This seems to me to give the powers that be the ability to take powerful action against offenders. Whether the spineless bastards actually take action is another matter of course.
There will never be an acceptable outcome, as a great many people, swear that they are not Racist, actually are, but keep it to themselves and like minded people. as I said earlier the PFA have no power to suspend a players contract, however they CAN boot him out of the organisation that they represent. But Im sure Joey Barton [ used as a name only, not of the crime of racism ] would stick two fingers up and tell them to get ****ed. QPR cant ge rid because of the amount of compo he will get. but the pfa will pay nowt. As I said toothless.
After all, the players have cameras on them all the time and people can read lips as Mr Terry found out to his cost. NONE of the VTR evidence of the Suarez case supported Evra's allegation (or we should say allegations, as Evra changed what he was called, how many times, and when and where he was called it at least three times until he was allowed to sit down with the FA prosecution team and change his story based upon Suarez's statement). The only evidence the FA had was Suarez's statemnet that he had used the word negro - not an offence in itself - and Evra's admission that he'd specifically abused Suarez , his family and his nationality in Spanish (this being dismmissed by the FA 'independent' panel as an 'exclaimation' despite Spanish not even being Evra's second language, let alone his first). And that is the point - do you REALLY expect any non-black player in dispute with a black player to take any other defence than the Schmeical blanket denial knowing the FA's self-serving, narrow description of racism and its now proven track record of politically correct posturing, even when there is no evidence? As said, if someone is convicted of racial abuse in a PROPER court (and if Suarez is so guilty, why has he NOT been charged with any offence?) then fair enough - they're guilty of gross misconduct as their contract stands now without the need for any extra clauses anyway. But on the basis of two mates of the manager of the accusing player and a QC who regulary works for the prosecution (as he did over the Rooney appeal - funny how the FA have no shame about using the right to appeal through UEFA and FIFA but don't allow it themselves...).
There will never be an acceptable outcome, as a great many people, swear that they are not Racist, actually are, but keep it to themselves and like minded people. Thought crimes, eh? Never mind, if Slurguson and the Daily Mail get their way they'll get players and fans banned for that too. After all, that was the the level and standard of evidence that was used against Suarez. Wonder what was going through Evra's mind when he specifically selected Spanish to tell Suarezhe was a Sudaca and to go f00k his sister? But he is black and therefore cannot be racist...
Btw, what's your views on, say, Ian Wright and Peter Schmeical, and the advice Martin Luther Ferguson gave Schmeical over that fracas? What was 'shameful' was Dogleish's defence of this shambolic little turd No view that is consistent with your argument then...
Racists are not always open about their leanings, Me if I dont like somebody, I dont like him/her, no matter the colour, therefore they are twats,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,WHAT COLOUR IS A TWAT ?
