1 out of 10 people are meant to be gay and that figure is probably conservative because of the amount who have not come out of the closet and if you think about the very very low number of sportsmen who are openly gay it is obvious that there will be loads who, for whatever reason, are gay but feel like they can't be open about it. I reckon there are loads of celebrity arrangements where they supposedly have a gf or bf just for appearance's sake but are actually gay.
Very true, that is sad. I heard whispers that Senna was gay secretly, or was that Piquet stirring the **** pot? He married then divorced and never remarried though being around a lot of women.
It was probably Piquet **** stirring although you never know. He was never devoid of women though. I think once an ex girlfriend was asked about the allegations that Senna was gay and I think she replied something like "if he was gay then I would love more gay men in my bed".
Not sure that the sexuality of any driver has any particular relevance. There's no wonder that people in the spotlight that are gay or bi keep it under wraps when even in the 21st century it's something that still raises eyebrows.
Think it's publicity suicide saying your gay. Though the public might be divided about it, either it be personal opinion or religion, major businesses might decide to not touch you with a barge pole. Money is F1's best friend...
No way are that many people gay, it would endanger the species. I know hardly any gays, and a handful of people who seem gay but deny it. I'd guess it's more like 3-4%, certainly not 10%.
That is what I have read. Just because you know hardly any gay people does not throw the % out because gay people probably know loads of gay people. EDIT: Just looked again and according to government figures it is 6% in the UK.
The official figure is around 6% but the reality is it's much higher, 10% minimum probably. This is because a lot of gay people don't want to state their sexuality because the world is full of stupid fools who have a problem with such irrelevant information.
Well, there was that documentary about the lack of openly gay footballers a while back. It's worse in F1 where there are too many sponsors whose money continues to talk and who might risk potential income if their more conservative customers took offence. (Though I might add that if one sports star finally decides that it's not worth it, then that will spark a revolution)
So if the figures are basically 1 man in 10 is gay, then 2 drivers on the grid are probably in denial. Is it morally wrong to take bets as to who it is? (P.S. I'm betting Kartikeyan and Rosberg, Hamilton doesn't come across as gay .)
Nearly 1 in 5 people on the Planet are Chinese... That makes at least 5 drivers on the grid Chinese. Why this redundant discussion? A persons sexuality has no baring on their ability to perform a task.
It does though. Without wishing to sound homophobic, if a footballer were to come out as gay, then the abuse from opponent fans could distract them, or possibly more (the case of Justin Fashanu).
True... But I would hope that it would be stamped out in the same way that they are trying to stamp out racism in football.
It can't help Cristiano Ronaldo when he gets a hard on before taking a free kick either. please log in to view this image
Sadly its one of those things that will never be stamped out probably. Most people in todays world don't care what colour you are, about your sexuality or what sex you are, (to name a few) but theres always some that for ever reason will feel the need to torment others about it.
Oh, I know you'll never truly stamp it out, but at least there are efforts to stop people openly vocalizing their prejudice. Living in the U.S, you get so see how people can be very openly prejudice and openly deny gay people the same freedoms that they are privilege to. Very odd from a country that apparently has freedom of religion and claims to be the land of the free... Especially when most of that crap comes from "Christians". Anyway... different debate that doesn't belong on a F1 board. I just feel that sexuality has no bearing and find it odd that it has cropped up.
