Who thinks so, I dont think it will Will UEFA ban sides like Citeh,PSG,Malaga,Chelski from the CL if they break the rules, I dont think they will
There will be pressure to do so from the teams just outside. Say for example Marseille or Lyon finish just outside champs league places or Liverpool finish 5th. It will be a case of either enforce them or scrap them first season they take effect
These clubs will find a way around the rules mate, just like when City gave the ground naming rights to their owners family company for an over the top sum.
I think it will be enforced; I think there are some special rules for the next two years to allow rich owners to 'help' their clubs but after this, they'll have to be self-sustainable - is that a word? - anyway, this is Platini's baby, can't see him allowing his own brainchild to be diluted.... I think it's great news personally, the sooner the better.
I think its going to turn into a legal battle between teams just outside qualification and the teams who have broken the rules and Uefa.
Have to agree with the above it has took a while to get it all in place and what Platini wants he get's I think it will come through and clubs will just have to abide by these new rules
I agree. I'm pretty sure all the rich boys will have had their lawyers crawling all over it for ages looking for loopholes and gaps in the legislation. I think UEFA will do their best to enforce it but they will either have to keep changing the rules on a regular basis to keep up with the lawyers or it will fade away within a few years.
Ban from Europe is the last punishment from a long list of punishments that includes fines, etc... I think UEFA should consider Transfer embargo's if bans from euro comps doesn't work, if a club cannot look after it's books, they shouldn't be allowed to spend
FFP makes more sense if you consider it is Uefas requirements for entering a Uefa competition. That means its impossible to mount a legal challenge as its Uefas competition, their rules, their laws. Also with EU backing and more and more football leagues around europe signing up there is no chance this will fail.
no way will it be i mean chelsea finall got the cup thier owner wanted to buy and city may buy it next year... the ffp is just a joke
although there is nothing UEFA can do if said clubs break away and form their own club competition, they'd get TV rights and sponsorship easily, lest we forget that the European Club Association's deal with Fifa runs out in 2014
I can guarantee Chelsea and City are already on a list marked 'future bannings' Chelsea can realistically pass the FFP but they will no longer be able to splash the cash, sales and player releases are whats coming for them and young players who offer value are who they will sign. City will not pass and the only viable punishments are a transfer ban or a champions league ban. There will be no legal challenge, City dont have a leg to stand on. Uefa invite teams to play in europe, its not a given right even if you finish in the qualification positions. Uefa still invite you to participate. Basically its like getting a golden ticket. Uefa has every right to refuse entry if you dont meet their criteria for the competition. Its that simple. No court, no lawyer, no club will ever be able to fight it.
True but the clubs who will be most concerned are hardly footballing superpowers are they Man City - Nobodies in european football, minnows on a minute scale with zero influence of power. Chelsea - Amongst the most disliked clubs in European football ( in Uefas eyes ), again hardly hold much muscle with the big clubs PSG - hold no influence in europe Anzhi - Who? Malaga - nobodies, literally nobodies. No big club, no club who are regarded a European giant will follow any of the above clubs in making a split. Man Utd, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich...... these sorts of clubs could do it.....but we are all quite happy with the CL and are all very likely to pass the FFP so there is no problem. The money clubs may be able to break away and create some awful competition of their own but after a few years it will die on its arse
The rules are to be phased in over three years, e.g. wages don't count until 2014. This gives the authorities time to see who's making an effort to be ready for FFP. I've a feeling those who don't adhere to it will be banned. It'll only take one club to be made an example of.
Most clubs have spent the last 2 years getting things in line. I say most clubs because one club has made no attempts to comply even posting losses that made up more than 50% of the losses in their entire league. City posted losses last year of £197million, this year they have a new stadium deal, PL winners prize money and thats about it for income. They make no money from ticket sales, they pay 200% of their revenue in wages and are one of the worlds most unsustainable companies. Its also likely the stadium deal will not be counted by Uefa in their calculations ( remember its what Uefa decides no whats written in the books ) as its well above fair market value. On the wages part, its only wages of players signed before 2010 I think until 2013/14 season where all wages are taken into account. City as of now would add almost £60million extra to their wage bill when those wages are taken into account.
When you actually look at it, the FFP is not that difficult to comply with. The only expenditure counted will be transfers, wages and bonuses to all staff members. The income counted however will be prize money, gate receipts, merchandising, player sales (which include appearance, performance and success bonuses and sell on fees), advertising, sponsorships and TV revenue. Money spent on any infrastructure such as a new stadiums or training facilities are not counted, neither is any money spent on youth development. On top of that, when the FFP come into full force in 2018, teams need to keep their annual loss below £8.8 million. So clubs could make a loss each and every year and still be complying with the rules. Also UEFA has scrapped plans to give transfer bans as potential punishments. Fines and the withholding of prize money I believe are the most likely.
They scrapped the transfer ban because they might have been taken to court by individuals for restriction of trade. Then they got backing from the EU courts. They've been very careful to prevent anyone from being able to challenge them. UEFA have invested a lot in this FFP idea, no way they will back down. No amount of fancy lawyers or dodgy naming rights deals will save clubs. Either they fall in line or they don't play in Europe. When a club is blatantly refusing enforce FFP what's the point in introducing a fine or withholding prize money? Thats right, none.
I do believe they will limit the squad size from 25 to 20 if you fail to meed FFA, for European games. UEFA will enforce it, and ££££ will suffer, as I also do believe that they are looking into the naming rights of the "United" Stadium as an excessive amount. but time will tell.
