I'm sorry ... how is snapping up an average player when he's on a free transfer "lack of ambition"? So if it isn't a world class player, we shouldn't bother? It's that kind of attitude which leads to us having a load of crap players in the team instead of a group of good squad players behind the stars.
Sorry if it's already been mentioned but even though I don't think Kalou is particularly good, he's twice the player of Gervinho.
Of course he is...what with only scoring a single goal and having a single assist this season compared to Gervinho's 4 and 6, I'm sure you're right.

I think it's quite a valid opinion. Last season obviously wasn't his best but if you like stats he scored 12 and made six the year before. I'm yet to see Gervinho do anything to justify £11m and he seems ineffective to me. On a side note, assist stats are virtually meaningless. If he's putting in world-class crosses then fair enough but if he's passing it five yards to Van Persie to score an open goal then it doesn't mean a lot.
The why wasn't Kalou adding to his assist stats by giving five yards passes for tap ins? The likes of Nando would have killed for the chance to end his drought! Though he probably would still have ballsed it up...

Are you disputing that what Watford wrote is one of the stupidest things a fan of Watford, of all teams, could write? I mean, how many of the players we're drooling over this window play in that "pub league"? Maybe we should dip into the Scottish PL while we're at it then.
The standard is pretty poor. A few good sides, of course, but half the league is mediocre in the same way the other leagues outside the top few (Portuguese, Dutch etc.) are. I hope Gervinho proves me wrong and turns into a top player worthy of the price but I don't honestly see it.
I would put him on a 1 year contract with us, and give him average club wages and see how he does, he would be a squad player and if he could make the same impact as benayoun or better then he would be a good signing. However i don't think that we should have both kalou and benayoun at the club next season, it should be either one or the other, and tbh i think arsenal fans should be more concerned that we are about to lose vertonghen to spurs despite the fact that we have champions league football next season and they dont thats a disgrace if it occurs.
Some good teams for sure, and certainly more than a few very good players, but the overall quality is poor. I don't see what's so controversial about that.
