i don't mind it when Song makes a misplaced pass when he's trying to find that killer pass, that's actually a given for creative players, but what really irritates me is when he badly losses the ball with a sh!t misplaced pass in the middle of the pitch, but all in all, a very good creative midfielder for us, he is our highest ranked assisting player from midfield, he has been the player who has taken Fabregas' mantle of providing from the middle. That's why Wenger's going for a DMF, he realises that although Song can do that job, it would be better if Song had a more free role of a CM, where he can be creative, and do defensive duties, but defensive duties won't be his main task, that will fall for the new DMF we sign. And then we can have a new midfield of Song, Arteta, and new DMF, and can mix it up with Rosicky as well as Wilshere when he returns.
This is what I envision as our midfield next season: DM: M'Villa 1st Choice, Coq 2nd Choice, Frimpong 3rd Choice Deep-Lying Midfielder (Not DM): 1st Choice Arteta, 2nd Choice Song, 3rd Choice Ramsey Attacking/ Creative Mid: 1st Choice Jack/Rosicky, 2nd Choice Jack/Rosicky, 3rd Choice Oxo/Eisfield Squad Rotation and injuries means 1st and 2nd choices would see lots of game time, 3rd choice can play non-serious League and FA Cup games
I know hating Song is almost as popular as hating Walcott around here but 14 assists from a deep lying starting position is very good going. but if that's not enough to convince the haters. Song actually completed the second highest number of interceptions in Europe this season. http://www.eplindex.com/11672/premier-league-ultimate-team-selected-via-opta-stats-analysis.html Even more crazy than that though is Swansea's Leon Briton has a better pass completion rate (93.01%) than Xavi, Inietsa or Fabregas and has more interceptions than Busquets, Mikel, Khedira, Barry, etc..
You take away with one hand what you offer with the other what that tells me is .. stats alone can lead you up the garden path .. straight to the rabid dog. One must use one's eyes and ears as well.
Pass completion rate doesn't mean much, maybe he has more successful passes than Xavi, Fabregas etc, but how many of them were useful passes? How many of them were useless side passes, or back passes. At one point, Denilson had the highest passing rate in the PL, and none of them were assists for goals or setting up goals!
Yeah true. That's why Fabregas was soo great though. At one point while playing for us he was creating a 'goal scoring oppurtunity' on average every 29 mins. Shame RVP was never fit back then.
